I'm looking at insurances for Fungus, and am getting rather confused....

I need something with life cover, and one that will deal with the vet direct, preferably one with excess that isn't over £50

:help:

I'm with Saga Insurance for my three dogs (just had renewal, just over £1100...gulp).
The excess for the two under 8's is £55, but the over 8 (sheltie) is £75 +20%.
Any problem will be covered for life as long as i keep up the insurance.

Blimey that seems steep

The Golden Retriever and the Sheltie have both had cruciate ligament problems so it is a bit higher than normal for them (400+ each).
My Jack Russel X as not had a problem yet, that's just under £300.

One major problem can be £1000 touch so i always keep them insured even though it seems a lot.

I use Argos for all my pets and have found them to be be good, they seem to be the best one for us.

I wouldn't touch Argos with a barge pole, we were with them for our old dog Sapphire who we sadly lost 5 weeks ago. They finally settled a vets bill after 4 months and then have had the nerve to bill us for the rest of the years insurance, even though our dog has died. It took 5 phone calls to get them to send out a claim form on more than one occasion. It is currently being looked into by their complaints department.

We are with lloyds for merlin and have never had a problem with them, though they have just doubled his premiums due to the amount of treatment he needed last year.

Remember that insurance is not just about paying Vets bills - as far as I'm concerned third party cover is just as vital, if not more so.

Some of the seemingly cheaper policies simply don't include it, and by the time you add it on as an option they can end up costing up as much as a policy from PetPlan or one of the other major players.

check your household policy before you go adding 3rd party onto your pet insurance - for starters it's illegal to be insured twice for the same thing, and for seconds, why pay twice?

I think I'm going to go with Kennel Club, its one of the more pricey ones but I know they pay out pretty fast

Pippa is with sainsburys. She is covered for 7000 per condition for life. It costs 18 a month, 50 excess and pay vet direct. Was 13 a month 1st year but bumped it up to 18 at 1st renewal when she 1 even though i didnt claim which was annoying. I stayed with them as still cheapest for my requirements.

I looked at Sainsbury's, they want £25.95 for Fungus....

Kennel club want £1 more and I know they pay up quick, they paid up for another Dachshund owners bills within 4 days!

Mmmm-looks like they have bumped excess up to £75 as well. That will be interesting at renewal. Im still smarting over Marks and Sparks removing their zero excess of my cats policies. Just be careful eith the KC excess-£60 plus 10% can be very costly.

Ive just had a look at animal friends insurance. That seems reasonable. Might change Pip sooner rather than later in case she develops anything before renewal.

I'm with animals friends for both my dogs. We pay about 16 quid a month each for them, and they donate some of their profits to animal charities :D I've not had to claim from them yet, but they seem ok

OMG

12 monthly payments by direct debit. The first payment will be £28.24 followed by 11 payments of £28.22
Total annual premium of £338.66

why is it so expensive for mini dachs? I thought pip would be high due to probs cavies have, but annual prem is 166. Its bizarre.

After looking at this i have checked my insurance again as i havent since we insured him at 8 weeks old. Not had to claim anything so not had too since, just checked the paper to renew it. Found out hes only covered for each condition for 12 months. Going to look round now to change it. 12 months isnt good enough if he gets something ongoing. It could still end up costing a fortune!

I am getting my dog back off my mother next month. Apparently her insurance is with Tesco and costs £10 per month - does that sound right? My mother has been known to make things up.

Also - what is 'excess'?

Lynz&Rox
01-04-2009, 20:35
Yeah that could be right. Mine for a terrier cross is about £11. Dont know exactly without looking. The excess is what you have to pay. The insurance pays anything after this. So if your excess is £40 and the bill is £100 you will pay £40 and the insurance £60. :)

Well so far the chew monster appears to be best off with Marks and Spencer but gonna check AXA next.

Life cover is always best just in case or that is my view at least, you pay a bit more but its got to be worth it in the long run if they have a serious ilness.

Tesco have always been good for my cat till she hit the age where i couldnt change then it hit the roof, wouldnt mind at 10 she has always been insured and never once claimed.
I bet if i was to cancel we would end up neededing to claim

i swapped my cat from marks to axa earlier. Also my dog. Marks is also underwritten by axa, just more expensive.

I'm with Animal Friends. Costs me £15 per month. I get life time cover. £2,000 per year per condition. Excess is only £49 too.

For information AXA will not cover bullmastiffs oh well M&S it is then, that was simple enough

How strange as m&s is AXA if you check who underwrites the policies.
