Please dont see my as a sado iam wantin to plan this b4 the worst happens so we can put her to rest in the best possible way , cheers martin:( ps iam askin for advice from fellow members hoping someone will have used this type of service and is very happy with what they paid for.
PrincessKate 29-03-2009, 13:28 Hi, we had our rottie cremated last year we have her in a little box too :)
Nothing saddo about it just shows you care, we paid £125 for Kira to be done, we took her in on the friday and picked her up on the monday but they do offer same day too, but we took her in late on friday after she had been put to sleep.
They are lovely people there and its beautiful inside, i would highly recommend them not just us that have taken our dog there but family do too and would not go to anywhere else at all.

You are doing the right thing thinking about this beforehand, when the time does come you will naturally be upset and it is one less thing to think about.
Talk to your vet he will give you information on it and arrange everything ,hope its a long way away though.
Moonbird 29-03-2009, 13:33 Usually a vet can advise of cremation services and I know that there is such things plus a pet cemetery.
I understand how you feel totally as I want to keep one of my dogs with me when the worst happens, and I want his ashes to be sprinkled with mine when I go, we are going to fly in the wind and explore the universe together....now that's morbid :hihi:
Thats a good idea Moonbird i have my Border collie that i had for 15 years he stays on top of my wardrobe in a lovely box,(his ashes not him)
Good idea to save all our loved pets ashes and take them with us when we go.
PrincessKate 29-03-2009, 14:54 We took Kira in ourselves and she was creamated straight away, i didnt want the vet sending her there as i have seen the plastic bags they get stuffed in :(

when otis died in 2003 we had him cremated at lincolnshire they even sent a death certificate and a card saying sorry for your loss
Lynz&Rox 29-03-2009, 17:48 Im hoping that its a long, long way off but when my Rocky passes away i am going to get him cremated then have his ashes made into a diamond and set in a ring so i can have something to remember him by and something that i can keep forever and pass on to my children (When i have them!) who will have grown up with Rocky.
Yep i also want to have my babies cremated and i want to take them myself as the last thing i can do for them. I also plan to have individual cremations rather than them just being cremated with other animals and getting a share of the cremains. I want to know that what i am bringing home is my baby and not someone else's, however the place usually make you aware of this.
twibstix 29-03-2009, 20:46 My Lizzie Trout died in December 2007, she was not with me at the end as she had decided to toddle off on her own (but she found the sweetest elderly couple who took her in, fed her, kicked their dog out of its bed and put Trout in, covered her up and gave her a hot water bottle and kept a close eye on her. So much so that when the lady noticed her breathing had become very deep they immediately took her to the vet, sadly Elizabeth Rose died in the lady's arms on the way. They got her microchip details from the vet and kept trying to get hold of me, they also told the police and dog warden and the vets themselves all kept trying to get hold of me. I was so very touched by their generosity, she was a little poppet really. By the time they (the people who found her) got hold of me it was too late to go to the vet - not that I wanted to see my dog dead, she had left me to spare me that (that's my belief, please do not pull it to shreds). I rang up the pet cremation place near Lady Bower (cant remember its name sorry) and then rang the vets in the morning. They had already arranged for the company in Doncaster to come and collect Lizzie but were happy for my choice to take over. The company picked up my hound and rang me a few hours later to say I could go and collect her, and she is on my fireplace now. She will be transferred to an urn (when it gets here from China, my fault, have been very picky and have picked things then rejected them as soon as they get here, its a good job I work for a firm that imports gravestones etc). The cost was £180 plus £20 collection fee and it was nearly all covered on her insurance so, when your time comes, it may be worth checking this out.
twibstix 29-03-2009, 20:49 Oh and have just noticed the google ads for pet gravestones, if you wanted anything for your pet, send me a pm I can guarantee that I would be far and away cheaper than any other company and could get pretty much anything you wanted. For instance, we just lost the last of the original shadows and I have ordered a stone from our suppliers in the shape of a black labrador. Pretty fitting really.
Thank you - sorry in advance if I cant actually post this either!!!!!
Moonbird 29-03-2009, 20:55 Just out of interest Twibstix how much (roughly) would something like that cost?
holidayhutch 29-03-2009, 22:46 We sadly lost our Sapphire 5 weeks ago, she was almost 18. We had her cremated via pcs. Our vet arranged it all and she is back home with us again now in a lovely carved box with a brass plate on it showing her name etc. It took 7 days for her to be returned to us.

Hi the stone I have just ordered stands 15" high and is in black granite, carved to look like a lab. From me it would cost you around £150, from Poffins et al it would be at least double that.
If you pm me i can give you my e mail addy and send you a pic of what I have just ordered.
RELIABLE 30-03-2009, 23:25 The feedback is great thankyou all that have replied .My jet is still here but seems to have had a stroke tonight so im sat hear comforting her dont think she will last much longer, im really upset in seeing my baby like this but deffo will be contactin pcs soon as it turns out pcs is where my mum and dad had there dog cremated about 10 years ago , so i know for sure these are a very well known place to go .
I used a chap near Gainsborough for Gem he is a lovely man who has Dobes and Westies and is a great dog lover. I wouldnt let the vets deal with it if you want a private cremation as they tend you be burned with other animals and you get a "token" back. Unless you ask for a private crem, you wont get it.
I got the vet out to put Gem to sleep at home and then took her to the crematorium myself and waited for her to bring her home in her casket. I will be doing the same for all my animals when their time comes. They had a chapel of rest for you to say goodbye and spend time privately. I never thought a human being could produce as many tears as I shed for Gem, but the crematorium was very dignified and thoughtfull.
