Help is needed to piece together the old buidings/homes on Hunshelf Bank and Bottom in Stocksbridge.

We are detailing the Row's, blocks, buildings, people along the valley side such as White Row & others which was just off Pearoyd, down via brick lump on Hunshelf Road and the old rising sun pub on Hunshelf Park, down to the bottom to the Shop on the corner of Hunshelf road and Ford Lane and the row that was once attached along with the rest which led down the lane to Henholmes. Infact anything about the valley and its bottom down by the steelworks.

Most of these properties were built early 1800's and a few prior so if you know anything extra or know of anyone who has information and especially old photos of this area names of old houses and rows from the valley bottom all the way up to Hunshelf Hall and the tops then please let us know.

I recently saw a picture of the Henholmes area with the Armitage Works, adjacent to the railway house and crossing in the 'around Stocksbridge' book.

Looking at this site today you just cannot believe, what once stood there, on the Hunshelf side of the river, and now all woodland.

Also the grand house which stood toward the end of the Armitage works, must have belonged to the owner (given its scale)

This is not much, but we lived up on Hunshelf Park in the late 60s and early 70s, we was in those very large tall houses. I was told they once belonged to the big bosses at Samuel Fox's and when the bosses occupied them they were called 'Gentleman's Row' :)
