Which dog was it that did that?

What a wonderful heart warming story, dogs get such a bad press lately it's lovely to hear something good, they understand a lot more than we think don't they? :)

it was the labrador what came down to tell me, but then my other staffy x dog got worried and kept pacing up and down untill i went upstirs and they licked him all better licked the tears away lol, they both stand in front of his bedroom door every morning then run to his cot to great him and he giggles at them lol,or if the new dog is upstirs when im not and hes crying she opens door herself to see if hes ok,never known such an amazin bond between baby and hairy beasties

Awww that's really lovely, when my kids were small we had a smashing dog, he was big but so gentle and kind where the kids were concerned, my two learned to walk by holding his long coat and waking alongside him.

I believe that dogs are really special animals and when you develop that bond with one there is nothing quite like it and you never forget :)

thats very very true, i got my lab when i was 15 so not to young, but 7 years later where still togeather and we have such an amazing bond she seams to know what i am thinking, but i was concerned as she is nealy 7 that my son wouldent have to many years with her which is such a shame realy as she is sooooo good, but then without even looking for a new dog sandy came into our lives, at first she wasent as tolerable to him i think she thought he wanted to hurt her when he grabbed ect, but now shes lets him climb on her ect she loves him to death even lets him take her bone which 3 months ago i wouldent have dared let him go near her, with her being a new doggy and not knowing her past, but again such a great bond, there inseperable now hehe, and now you mention it my baby has learnt to stand but has now started pulling himself up on them both so maybe hes trying to walk with them to lol

twenty-odd years ago when the stepsons were young, my partner and I had a standard GSD, called Sheba, who'd been rescued.

She was a fantastic lass, so good natured. She'd "herd" the kids, and watch over them, and the boys would fall asleep with their heads laid on her chest. She was a really great dog.

My mum tells me of her dog Ben, when she was a child... they found Ben (GSD x lab - from photos he looked a lot like Wallbuilder's dog, Max) as a stray and my uncle persuaded his parents to keep him.

My aunt was only tiny at the time and my grandma was stood in the kitchen over looking the garden one day when she saw my aunt toddling down the garden to Ben who was sat gnawing on a bone.

Before my grandma could do anything, my aunt had reached down to Ben's mouth, and was grabbing the bone.

There was nothing her mum could do as she was too far away and stuck to the spot and her heart went into her mouth, they'd only had Ben a matter of days and didn't know anything of his history but Ben just sat there and looked up at my aunt while she picked up the bone.

They had him until he was about 14 when they finally had to have him put to sleep due to his back legs worsening but mum said he was the most amazing dog, he would just lay there while the kids played with him, fell on him, grabbed at him etc.

When I was only a toddler we had a heinz 57 called Harry, he too was amazing and I have a picture of me slumped on him and him just sat there quite happy. I would ride around on his back and when the cat had kittens (well, one kitten actually) she would dump the tiny kitten on Harry and flounce out the door whilst Harry just looked at mum as if to say 'what am I supposed to do with this?'

Animals really are amazing, Takara's not used to kids and isn't sure of them at all and Eddy's ok, but not so predictable anymore due to his senility and loss of eyesight. They are amazing in other ways though without needing to be good with kids :)

I've been babysitting today and as a result Molly is utterly exhausted. She's spent the day fussing round the little one, nuzzling and washing, having her ears chewed and generally paying lots of attention to make sure that Annie was safe. She even walked round the room allowing Annie to 'cruise' on her because she's not up to walking unaided quite yet.

Children are the only people who outrank me for Molly's attention. She lies in front of them when they're asleep, she constantly nuzzles them when they're up and about and if she's off lead her favourite thing in the world is running up to random children, putting her ball in front of them and then sitting down so they can throw her ball for her. It's the biggest compliment Molly can pay, giving you her ball.

EDIT- just to add, I do check with the children before allowing her to run up and take them her ball. If they aren't comfortable with being approached I call her back to me.
