My laptop (which was turned off at the time) had a fight with a mug of very hot tea on sunday - I immediatley shook as much out as I could and then left it to dry in an A shape......
Tried to turn it on yesterday and the two lights at the front flashed when i pressed the button so it looks like power is going through it, but nothing else happened.......... any ideas what i can try now??

it's not repairable by me, can someone please recommend a laptop repair place in hillsborough/walkley/crookes that can help me.

Thanks
Hannah

Did you take the battery out of it as soon as it happened? Whats the make and model and do the lights flash in any sequence or did they just come on? It probably needs taking apart and letting dry propperly, turning on in today may have killed it and so can leaving the battery in wheile it's full of tea.

As neeeeeeeeeek has allready stated all power sources should be removed including bios battery and then left to dry out before retesting although i would never trust one until it was stripped down and fully cleaned before powered back up again same go,s for mobiles ect ect

oooops, i didn't take the battery out straight away - and perhaps I did try to turn it on to see if it was broken......(I'm not the cleverest with technology!!)
It's an acer aspire
when i tried to turn it on yesterday the wireless light and other little light at the front (next to the battery light) came on momentarily at the same time when i turned it on....

sounds like I might have to admit defeat and find someone to look at it properly - any recommendations welcome........

Best you can do is take off every cover you can and let it dry propperly, stick it in an airing cupboard or somewhere for a few days. Good chance it's screwed if you switched it on but it might be OK if it drys out propperly. Depending on how old it is you might be better of buying a new one!

If you have an airing cupboard in your house put it in there for a couple of days, the dry warm air works wonders.

Fluid of any type is very damaging to any laptop. Often failure can be avoided by immediately removing the battery and turning off the laptop. DO NOT TRY TURNING IT ON. Take or send to a laptop repair agent who will deconstruct the laptop and clean out the fluid. This cannot be done by just drying as all fluid will not be removed. Often people turn on the laptop where it will work for several hours then fail; this occurs due to the fluid causing electrolysis and loss of copper tracks from the motherboard. http://www.trilogicuk.co.uk offer a motherboard repair service and may be able to undertake this laptop repair.
