View Full Version : New diet, help needed with fish!
So ive seen this healthy eating plan thing for three days, varied foods, but a couple of the dishes are salmon.
Not wanting to completley go of the rails, but i can not stand salmon!
I do like tuna steak though, mostly cos thats not very fishy!! Weird i know! But i tend to like the more un-fishy fish!
Does anyone know if there are any other un-fishy fishes like tuna steak that i can use instead of the salmon menu!!
Thanks! The menu is in this weeks reveal bythe way! Half price at 50p this week, what a bargain!!
Elphi 24 29-06-2005, 13:54 swordfish, monkfish, shark - all delicious and unfishy!
trout's quite a meaty fish too. And mullet's not overly fishy. I've done these sorts of diets though, and can't say I noticed any difference, sorry!
There was a fish thread around Christmas (I think). That may be worth a read too
Monkfish is very good, it's very "meaty" and there is only one bone to remove, the only drawback is that it's a bit expensive and you sometimes have to de-worm it.
OH MY GOD DE-WORMAND A BONE! SORRY BUT NO WAY, WOULD REALLY HONESTLY RATHER STARVE!
Smoked Mackerel's a meaty fish - had some the other night and it was gorgeous.

Lucky_13 29-06-2005, 17:01 The diet will include fish because it is an excellent source of protein and it is low in saturated fats but very high in omega 3 which is a natural and essential fat. You could use other meats instead of fish such as chicken or turkey. Just be careful how you cook it (it is best to grill and be careful what sauce you add as this may contain hefty amounts of calories and use a pice of similar size to that of the fish) As for the omega 3 you can supplement this and get it from any health shop in capsule form. As well as this eat plenty of fruit and veg, this will fill you up, keep your metabolism high and you cannot store any fruit sugars so they are great for energy and the waistline.

pete_jim 30-06-2005, 14:49 Baldocks on Chesterfield Rd @ Woodseats is an excellent fishmonger. Have had some lovely fish from Waitrose too. The fishmonger at Ecclesall opposite the Church has a limited selection but very good quality. Tesco on Abbeydale Road is fine too.
If you mix the cooked salmon with mashed potato 50/50(don't need butter!) some parsley (chopped) zest of half a lemon loads of pepper & some mustard. Keep the mix dryish and form into fishcakes dust with polenta and brush with olive oil shove in hot oven. 15mins in hot oven & take care transfering them to the plate as they might be a bit delicate. Very low fat.
Salmon in a Thai Curry is lovely too, see if you are allowed any coconut milk, again hardly any fat if you adapt the right recipe.
Thanks for all the help everyone!! Much appreciated, as always.
