View Full Version : Do you remember Studio 5-6-7? bellis 21-11-2003, 18:44 did anyone go there i no i did i saw i wide range of films there lol Mo 21-11-2003, 20:12 Certainly not ;) For anybody not around at that time these cinemas showed rude films. We used to walk past casting a sneaky sideways glance at the posters outside. Lots of dirty old men could be seen coming out. Lickszz 21-11-2003, 22:16 I only went once and can't remember what film I saw. Something like Karate Kid II I think. It was when it re-opened again for a short period. I've been told it used to show erotic x rated films in it's original days. PaulTansley 22-11-2003, 04:44 Originally posted by Lickszz I only went once and can't remember what film I saw. Something like Karate Kid II I think. It was when it re-opened again for a short period. I've been told it used to show erotic x rated films in it's original days. It certainly did, but it also had its fair share of the latest blockbusters to. The last film i saw there was Annie Hall in 1977. kg50 26-11-2003, 18:11 i think it was just studio 7 before that .i recall seeing straw dogs there. Hal9001 30-11-2003, 10:55 Originally posted by panda79 did anyone go there i no i did i saw i wide range of films there lol I saw quite a few films there: 'The Spy Who Loved Me' 'Sexy Agent 69' 'Blood Lust' 'The Beast' "What The Swedish Butler Saw' in 3D (with red/green glasses!) tiffy 19-01-2004, 19:31 Yes I remember those on the Wicker. Oh my God! In my final year at school some of us did some challenges where we all split into groups of two and each group had to write a challenge onto a bit of paper and drop it into a bag. Then we all took turns to pull out a 'challenge' and me and my mate ended up having to watch a film at one of these studios. I can't remember what film we ended up paying to see but I do remember it being very sparsely populated and they all seemed to be above a certain age and in dirty macs ;) I didn't watch all of the film as I soon began to feel sick and we ended up leaving via some side exit doors which led us straight into an alleyway where I promptly threw up. chezlyn 05-03-2004, 16:06 I went a couple of times because it was cheap and usually you could get a seat, as opposed to queuing round the corner and up the street at the ABC cinema. I think one of the last films I saw there was 'TOP GUN'. It was always cold and drafty though. MissEllie 05-03-2004, 18:56 Our bus into town used to stop right outside there. I remember the "colourful" posters outside, and mothers not knowing where to put their faces - especially when you asked questions :0) I must say it was a busy bus stop. bellis 05-03-2004, 23:08 saw my first x film there emanuelle in 1980 the all night horror shows where good tho:thumbsup: FairyNormal 06-03-2004, 12:40 Me and my mate used to go there in our late teens. This was when it turned into a 'normal' cinema!! She got off with the manager. He was an Australian Anarchist!! We used to go to the Brown Bear first for a drink then he'd get us in for free!! We'd sit at the back and get drunk on a revolting mixture of cheap cider and even cheaper sherry!! I remember going to see Bambi and the place was full of kids. In the interval, he played "Who killed bambi?" from The great rock and roll swindle soundtrack and all the little kids started crying!! Funnily enough, he got sacked!! ewwwwwwww and remember getting flea bites off the seats all over your legs? ** slopes off itching *** little malc 10-03-2004, 13:26 I can remember going to Studio 7 before it got it's naughty reputation. saw one of the first 3D films, a horror movie called "House of wax" I think Vincent Price was in it. It scared the hell out of us. Bushbaby 27-05-2004, 17:59 I saw Emmanuelle there in about 1973. Thank you Studio 7, for helping me through those long winter evenings. studioworker 15-06-2004, 10:51 Originally posted by FetishFairy Me and my mate used to go there in our late teens. Funnily enough, he got sacked!! ewwwwwwww and remember getting flea bites off the seats all over your legs? ** slopes off itching *** I used to work there as a youth under that aussie anarchist!!! it was a laugh. he actually owned the place, and a few others also around the country, so i don't believe he sacked himself!! don't remember showing Bambi but i do remember top gun and also we had Crocodile Dundee run for about 15 weeks!!! i was a little under the legal employment age at the time ;) but i did get to see all the latest films free as a bonus (always good as a kid!) i believe he eventually went bust and did one as i left school, so i got stuck on a crummy YTS scheme! as for the fleas... don't recall those either although there were some wicked rats round the back!! did anyone go there and get showered in water ever? that was quite a common occurence as we used to have major water fights during the shows, most of the people on the back rows got wet!! kirky 29-09-2004, 07:22 the old picture house in the wicker.....i seem to remember they always had the confession of a ....films on and other soft poro films..was it a pervo place or did it also show normal films..i was only about 12 when it was knocked down but used to pass it on the 52 bus nearly every day and always wonderd what went off inside timo 29-09-2004, 11:56 I think the "Pervo" tag is pretty accurate, on the whole. Most of the films seemed to be of the "Unashamed Swedish Lovers" variety. However, I remember sneaking in with a gang of mates underage [about 1976] to see "Obscured by Clouds", with a soundtrack by Pink Floyd. We also managed to get in to see "Enter the Dragon", starring Bruce Lee. The Cinema opened in 1968, and was formerly The Wicker Cinema according to the book, Sheffield in the Sixties, published by The Star newspaper. I remember laughing at the seedy clientelle, who largely appeared to be of the "I was only cleaning my specs, honest!" variety, from the upstairs windows of the passing no.4 bus with my fellow Wincobank lads. All the best. tosh13 29-09-2004, 12:15 I saw ZULU the movie there with my kid brother it was a scruffy old place. Bushbaby 29-09-2004, 13:31 At the age of fifteen I got in to see 'Emanuelle'. It was brilliant. The place was a dump, and full of overcoats smoking park drive, but I loved the film. Lickszz 29-09-2004, 17:11 Threads merged. katrina 30-09-2004, 20:20 yes kirky they did all the confession films. i went to see the confessions of a window cleaner at studio 7. in fact that's the only memories i have of the place. briggy1967 18-02-2005, 12:23 used to work at 5-6-7 just after they finished showing porn films (unlucky or what!!!) remember that manager and his wife were unfortunatly drug addicts and used to live in the small office and loads of his "mates" used to take drugs on emergency exit steps, not a happy place but full of memories. He used to pay us £10 every night and we used to go in the pub across road from cinema and waste it all on beer and the games/fruit machines checknumber 18-02-2005, 13:08 I remember goin there , had to pluck up courage to go see an adult film called Danish Blue , pretty raw at the time but very very tame by todays standards dishwasher 18-02-2005, 14:35 I also saw Annie Hall there, in the late 1970s. I think it was the only cinema in Sheffield to show that film, might be wrong, but I can't think of any reason why I went all the way down the Wicker just to see a film. It was a fairly seedy place, from what I remember. bellis 18-02-2005, 15:20 i saw a diana dors adult movie there:suspect: love in 3d on entry ooer missis we where given 3d glasses to view the said film and yes it was crap :loopy: :loopy: :loopy: briggy1967 07-04-2005, 21:10 YEAYYYYYY The Aussie Anarchist.....what a weird chap he was!!! I worked their for 2 years and left just before it closed (went to work at thhe odeon). I think his name was rick and he and his wife used to live in his very small office, unfortunatly they were both drug addicts and used to have all their "mates" sat on fire escape steps "shooting up". Thing i remember most from those days was nobody gived a toss about the place and we all got away with murder....sad i know but i was only 17. Plus i copped off with one of the usherettes (32,married with long blonde hair.......ahhhhhh the memories come flooding back! saxon51 07-04-2005, 21:27 Originally posted by briggy1967 .............nobody gived a toss about the place......... Not what I heard!:suspect: :suspect: mshaw 07-06-2005, 20:12 I don't remember the XXX films, but as a kid in the mid 80's I saw Condorman and Watcher in the Woods there. Michelle PhilipB 10-06-2005, 07:44 Studio 7 in the Wicker started in the 60s. Was a bit of a dump and showed "normal" films but was the first, as I recall, to show soft (very very very soft) porn films. It got a bit of a downmarket reputation cos of this. Think it was next to a newsagent that sold masses of "dirty books" and as kids we always assumed that the two were owned by the same people!! They used to run a programme, started about 11 oclock on a Friday night after the pubs chucked out, of black and white French films. Supposed to be "artistic" but looking back on those days, ah the innocence. You can imagine what it was like inside, crowd of teenagers, pi**ed on a few pints etc . Happy days. Ezekiel 13-06-2005, 14:32 I remember going there with my wife to be and as I went in to queue for the tickets I heard a voice jokingly shout I hope you're going to behave yourself tonight. I turned around and it was the ex manager of the Manor Cinema 'Uncle Bob and his wife}who remembered me from my visits on Saturday mornings and later Friday nights at the Manor. I beleive he was manager ther until it closed bizmark1 27-06-2005, 12:11 Can anyone remember the year that the cinema burnt down. I think it was late 1967. It was rebuilt soon afterwards discovery 18-09-2005, 15:18 Yeah, I went to see 'The Jungle Book' there and the screen curtains collapsed! biggsy 18-09-2005, 19:52 i also went to see emmanuel when i was about 15 years old-my eyes nearly popped out of my head:heyhey: does any one remember the tobaccanists(spelling?)just back from the cinema?,they had a very heavy, round glass bottle on the wall full of butane, you could get your gas lighter filled for about 4d (four old pence-about two new pence) i'd never seen one before and it fascinated me:loopy: . also, who remembers the saturday morning mattinee at the pavillion (att'cliffe),i think when i went,it was known as t' shilling mattinee:) memories:clap: john. SHsheff 18-09-2005, 19:56 Alice in Wonderland - the X-rated version ;) An eye-opener for me at the time. What the Queen of Hearts and her Ladies could get up to in their long frocks (with gentleman admirers) without anyone seeing was truly amazing. :P pedro1 28-10-2005, 19:48 my brother took me there once and we saw Emanual in tokyo and a really funny cartoon deelightful3 29-10-2005, 07:57 i used to go to these pictures quite a lot to see the latest horror films, being only 15 at the time it was the only place i could get in,all the others were more strict on age. bellis 29-10-2005, 09:14 Originally posted by pedro1 my brother took me there once and we saw Emanual in tokyo and a really funny cartoon i saw that one quite a good one for that kind of movie also saw adult fairy tales wish they would bring it out on dvd:) melthebell 29-10-2005, 20:34 Originally posted by SHsheff Alice in Wonderland - the X-rated version ;) An eye-opener for me at the time. You got cheese and onion sarnies half way through. When the session ended there were cleaners waking loads of people up.:hihi: I also saw all the Bruce Lee films there - it had some great films. lennonman 01-10-2007, 15:39 Only remember going there once, to see Monty Python And The Holy Grail. The film had only been showing a few minutes when the film ground to a halt and the house lights came up. The manager said that they had received a bomb warning and as a precaution could we all look under our seats. It was the time of the IRA, mid seventies and it must have been worrying for him, but the audience thought it was part of the movie and people were laughing and joking with each other!! It was exactly the sort of thing Monty Python would have dreamt up, but it must have been entirely genuine! The only thing i remember about 5-6-7 studios was that when it shut down and the place was up for rent/lease there was a big board on the building and the agent was called Conrad Ritblat! What a name, always remembered that for some strange reason! hehe. |
