Dont say that on the grimesthorpe thread they will go wild as if you have a different oppinion to them they attack you and they treat that threat as a personal thread

Well you said it I see they are yaking now ,they don`t like people that don`t see grimesthorpe as this wonderful place thats was all clean and 2 up 2 down and toilet in the yard....but its not about grimesthorpe anymore its all about what they are doing in life...I wonder how many would actually go back to live like they did then

My sister and I had a flat on there, just past the shops, that was around 1970/1. The landlord used to come in when we were at work and look everywhere (even in the wardrobes)
I was told he was looking for electric fires, as electric was free while gas was on meter.

I lived at Firvale many years ago, just above The Sunbeam cinema. I expect it's changed quite a lot.

Oh c'mon Flyer, I thought this thread was about Firvale! I'm from Grimesthorpe and loved it, however I spent some great nights in the Canon Hall and had some great friends from Firvale too. Paticularly Skinnerthorpe Rd. Anyone know Valerie Brown, Kathleen Gibson and Jennifer Goodwin?
Dors.

Hi I lived in Firvale for 28 years not all happy ones but many were, we were on Barnsley Rd. My son and daughter went to Earl Marshall school and have both done very well. Although it isn't that good now due to changes we have no control over, it was a good area to live.
The house I lived in is due to be demolished, and I was happy when the council asked to buy our home, and because the area has deteriated so much I Thank Thank Them...............

I should imagine it will be how Firvale has deteriorated. When I was a kid we used to walk and Firvale was, like, a bit posh. Just up the road, around Crabtree Lane, seemed to be in the country. It was a good few steps up from Woodside Lane and Birley Street anyhow.
Keep up the good work flyer.

I don't think it has deteriorated, in fact parts of it are now much nicer than those days you reminisce about. There is a brand spanking new hi-tech school with new floodlit football pitches, The roads with old housing have been demolished leaving open space, there are new businesses i.e Tesco, the hospitals had a total re-vamp.

Crabtree was always abit of a dive and it was only interesting because we were kids back then. We didn't appreciate the plants wildlife & fungi as much.

Barnsley Road houses and those in along Firth Park Road have all been given a clean up and the mosque & church are still attracting members of both faiths to use them.

The only downside is the parking problems at Owler Lane shops and the gangs of illegal immigrants roaming the lower end / Page Hall area. There are plenty worse places to point the finger at in Sheffield.

I remember visiting my granny in the 60's at 'Page Hall flats' - a large converted house. Can't for the life of me remember where this was though. Anybody from the area pin it down for me please?

Saxon, was it the back of the old Earl Marshal & Owler Brook Schools - there used to be some stables there too which were allegedly haunted, but I remember a large oldish house, right next to what is now the actual Owler Lane - near the roundabout??...

I used to live nearby on Firth Park Road in the early/mid 80s.
My Nan lived on Cammell Road, I could get into Page Hall's grounds at the top of our garden and go past the old house as a short cut to me Nan's house. :)
