Thought that I would start a thread on the Woodseats Residents Association and quite frankly the anger I currently hold against them. I am a resident of the woodseats area, ok not full time as I am a student in Manchester, but have returned for the summer. When I returned to my parents house last week they informed me that Strata Homes have applied for planning permission to redevelop the dissused TSP site at the bottom of Woodseats Road. I am all for this development for many reason. 1) My parents and myself live extremely close to this proposed development and at the moment the building is a bit of an eye sore, as is the former industrial building across woodseats road that is currently being vandalised. 2) With this building being so close to the river when redevelopment takes place Strata will almost definitely enhance the riverside environment (in fact this might be a term of the planning permission if it is granted). 3) With the removal of quite an industrial building in a residential area this can only have a desired effect on the house prices in the area. 4) Strata develop mid range to luxury housing meaning it may stop the influx of chavs in the neighbourhood. Any way after visiting town this afternoon with my mum and my brother we returned to our house to find a note from Woodseats Residents Association poster through our door, telling us why we SHOULDNT agree with the proposed development, and to be honest we were disgusted, in fact if I had of been in when they posted it I would have in fact given them a piece of my mind. As I have said before in the Sheffield Regeneration thread, do people in this city not want to move to the future. Do people just want to wallow in the old times? If this development doesnt go ahead it means we will be left with another dissused and constantly vandalised building until it falls down. If anyone from Woodseats Residents Association is on this board I would appriciate them coing forward and telling me exactly why they are against this proposed development, maybe they're also the people against the city regeneration.

I live in the area and went to the original public discussion held at the Smithywood Club. The original development was going to be three storeys high with a peaked roof so would of overshadowed a lot of the gardens of houses oin Ulverston road. There were concerns about the access road coming out onto Woodseats road as that section of road can be a nightmare to cross and the bus stop would of been relocated to further up Woodseats road so right outside people's houses.
The business park o the other side of the riveer certainly didn't do much to increase the look of the river and bankso I can't see building a lot of apartments with limited car parking spaces is really going to help the other bank.
There was no indication as to what would happen to the underpass beneath Woodseats road that a lot of people do use.
I agree the empty building does look rather bad and is obviously becoming more deerelict as the weeks pass, I would of thought a simple answer to that would be to knock it down and leave the land open at least as a stop gap measure.
Your conclusion that it would deter chavs from the area is plainly ridiculous as I'm sure people exhibiting chav like tendencies in some cases could afford to buy these new apartments or more likely rent them as some-one buys them to let.
I intend to contact the planning dept. to see whether my worries have been addressed and then and only then will I either be agreeing or disagreeing with the plans.
Just on a side note there is a new block of apartments at Woodseats next to the entrance to Graves park and I have become very aware of the obnoxiously loud music and the bad language coming from one of these new flats that anyone going in or out of the park can hear. If that is an example of the sort of people moving into new flats then of course I'm going to be interested in which section of the populace are going to be encouraged into the area when it's on my doorstep..

on your door step? Dont you mean on mine too? To be fair I think people are moaning foor moanings sake. And before you say that we have never experienced anything like this before they built the extension to the sheffield south sorting office at the bottom of our garden and we were never consulted about it, plus this blocks out some light to our garden too. So again, something which could bump up the house prices/improve the area is in jepordy because of a few. What a surprise, in fact it isnt, because people I have noticed moan quite a lot in sheffield.

At the public meeting there were over 100 people and some of them did have some very silly objections which they were quite vocal abut but made them look a bit idiotic in my opinion.
If and when they do build something in the area they should take into account local residents concerns anfd so until I've had a chance to see the new plans I am not blindly going to complain for the sake of complaining.
However a bad road junction on a rather nasty bit of road is an issue for me and if they haven't answered the problem of limited parking then that also is going to bother me as badly parked vehicles can also cause huge problems.
Other people quite obviously are going to have different things to which they're going to want answers and let's just hope they don't decide to turn the public footpath from Chesterfield road down towards the Smithywood club back into a road again to try and alter traffic flow
I knew I'd recieved the same ? bit of paper through my door from the Woodseats and Ulverston road tenants assoc, [aalthough I've never heard of them] and completely agree with you it is a pathetic piece of rubbish, badly worded and without much actual info whicj explains why I'll be contacting the planners directly to ask my questions.
There also is a slight difference to a building blocking some sunlight from your garden and a building that is [on the original plans] going to remove any sense of privacy from the rear of your property with windows facing not only at you but also down on you,
the flats have been built now so if you know anyone who fancies renting one let me know on 07849457775!
