no_rules 28-06-2005, 18:40 I've updated the list with as much info as i can remember all the bands i've added info on i've made bold
dog soldier - kev became a p/t lecturer at sheff uni..
G.G.F - john (singer) has some merry go rounds n kids rides i think....
bad blood / face first were the same band they just swapped instruments and renamed themselves ( they not truth decay toured with government issue on the UK tour and crashed their van, hence the next GI album being called crash!)
those three bands split up early 90's and one member from each formed
truth decay which i joined in 93 (i think?!)
bastion
systematic annexe (my first ever gig, back in 1986 at the hallamshire hotel, they also featured on a motorhate comp album)
Moral justice
the bland (from chesterfield - went to a party once at theres, thats when i first met jools, see the dwarf and a clipboard man thread)
deathtrash - murray fenton is in the ****wits now
goodbye toulouse (jools was the roadie)
amnesia
slopdosh bobar and ivan crump - i've still got their demo, you came to wath and saw em with us didn't you??
midnight choir?
muzzle club / bendy monsters - bendy monsters still exist i think...
bad taste
radiacs
bedlam choir
lilac confusion
human perogrative
plague dogs
corpse grinders - a couple of em went on to form WORM, who still exist to this day...
slbc psychoterrorism research unit
media premonition
FCS (F*** City S*******) - moses is still around
durango 95
ed 209
blind mole rat - became spitboy didn't they?
astrids
food
various vegetables - signed to warp did a single and promptly split up
head
smokescreen soundsystem
dr restart ant wrapsmiths (wath upon dearne band)
dog on a rope - were from Leeds, though Rob lead singer now lives in sheffield
elfin
longpigs - one of em joined joe strummer and mescaleros
wax lyrical
ju ju city
me
freezer
brained
cus cus
shell
drug free america
others you forgot
cosa nostra
exit
the grind
dollar babies

i was asked to join slopdosh bobbar and ivan crump, and dead by friday

goldenfleece 13-08-2005, 10:52 There was a Sheffield rock/metal band called NIGHTRUN circa 85/86....they played a band competition gig at the City Hall in 86 and came 2nd.....anyone know what happened to them?
pete_fcs 13-08-2005, 17:41 no, but i remember the winners in 1986 were "spring heel'd jack", and also on stage were "the flexible penguins", who's bassist paul went on to play keyboards in "blammo!" who became "speedy" and had a hit in 1997 with "boy wonder"
more anorak facts in the pipeline
Good day all.
Anyone know how I can get it touch with ex Blind Mole Rat members??
Cheers,
Jason
pete_fcs 03-10-2005, 19:20 yes, i can give you one or two email addresses if you let me know who you are, and p.m. me!
:)
Many thanks for your speedy reply Pete, but I'm now intouch with Dan from BMR as of yesterday. I sent a **** load of e-mails out on Friday requesting BMR info. And there was mail waiting for me first thing Monday morning! Int the internet brilliant?! Out of interest do you know geezer called Glenroy who used to be in a bass heavy, AR-Kane style band (late 80's - can't remember the name - think it begins with an 'A').
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Jason
syeclops 04-10-2005, 19:17 yes i remember fcs very well mick singer/songwriter and mega p***head and ben drummer and shy lothario great some1 else remembers too

sadly the glenroy i knew died in 1997. he was in "in a belljar", and also "media premonition" and "psychoterrorists" and "slbc", the last three of which i played keyboards for from 1992 to 1996.
all my bands are listed on this link...be warned, there are 33, and some have rude names!

wow! you must have seen fcs late 87 or early 88, shortly before the end of part one.... i was the drummer and left in october 87 before ben joined.
mik was an AMAZING singer, best voice in sheffield by far, and his lyrics were fantastic. not seen him for about 12 years...
Very sorry to hear that Glenroy has passed away. I had a nagging feeling that you were gonna back to me with that news. If you don't mind, could you tell me the circumstances? If you'd rather, use my e-mail: jason.smith@boidesign.co.uk. I used to know Glenroy about 1989-92 in and around Broomhall, and him breaking out in song all over the place! (i have no head for dates). And am sure I saw him play at the Hallamshire (wicked venue as I remember). 'Psychoterrorists' that was it. Don't know where the "it starts with an 'A'" came from...
Once again Pete, many thanks.
Cheers,
Jason
pete_fcs 07-10-2005, 19:14 xxxx, i have sent you an email about glenroy
I love this forum, purely for nostalgia value! :D
I can't believe people still remember slopdosh.. :loopy: :gag: :hihi: I still cringe when I hear the name (I guess certain experiences stick in my memory...) :P
I read your list Pete, there's loads of names on there I remember. Does anyone have any pics lying around from those days? I loved the old punk days but sadly most of it is committed to memory as I never carried a camera back then.
I often read these posts and wonder how many old friends are hiding behind these nicks...
Thanks for the memories ;)

Bloodaxe 14-04-2006, 20:06 Went to school with Murray Fenton. His first band was called "RAF" after the band member surnames: simon Rippon, tony Armitage And murray Fenton. The bass player was called Dean Buxton he must have joined later i suppose.
Triumphman 16-04-2006, 19:34 I was in Blind Mole Rat (mandolin & guitar) from 93 to 95 when the band split up. (Actually we 'reformed' for a one off surprise gig the following year for Ken (who ran the old Independent Bookshop opposite the Town Hall.) who was a great friend of the band. I've not heard from anyone else in the band for ages. I think Rob Overdrive and Robin Down are still in Sheffield, though. Rob plays violin in Tarana.
I know one of the lads out of the Bendy Monsters.
I'll point him this way when I'm next in work.

i used to go to school with dom bradshaw, jim herring, Pat Hancock and Andy Fjord?? i think, wasnt he also called andy peacock i believe???

i really want to contact jim herring tho, i was his best mate at school, not seen him in about properly in well over 10 years maybe more, apart from the odd bendys gigs........last time i heard from dom he said jim was trying to get a pc, not heard owt since
Doe anybody remember Eric and the Frantics. They were rally a Hayfield/Hope Valley band bt did gigs in Sheffield too. They were superb. Often pogoed in the street to their open air gigs. Had a sense of humour too, no set was complete without a rendition of their all time classic 'For Ken Hill'
joninflicted 29-04-2006, 16:52 hi my name is jon as you most likey guess i was in a band called self-inflicted from 93-05 played with truth decay and all the other bands from that time.other ****ing class bands u missed were bleeding principle, too little too late and sherbet burp but to name a few,i use to put gigs on with stu from truth decay and jon who runs the pub next to bankers and argos in town i also use to put bands on at the hallamshire

apart from truth decay...obviously
i saw loads of bands at the hallamshire so prolly went to gigs you put on
johnbradley 29-04-2006, 18:18 seen midnight choir got mentioned a couple of times...
i play in a band with two ex-MC members, nick and ziggy
koenigsinger 29-04-2006, 22:45 I sang in Meld, rob overdrive drummed with us for a while, and then after I was in 2 til 10.
I knew jon who played bass in GGF through my brother's collega mates.
I still see robin downe knocking about, and as well as having joined a bit of a sheffield institution ( sharp cuts) I have recorded an album of all new original material with James Bacon, who was in Mindfeel with Robin and Simon Hinkler.
I always have loved the scene here in sheffield, so intertwining and really very supportive of each other... bands would always helo wach other out in a fix, and any rivalry was always friendly and usually ended up in a few beers down the washington and then a night at drop or step on.
I know Mixmif, used to get tattooed in the same place as him (designer skin, west bar, now shut). Last time I saw him was on the moor, just as he was putting the carpainters together. And I used to work with Jon from Bedlam Choir, who went on and joined Freekspurt, and is now in a band called Sukmunki. Has anyone got any slopdosh stuff they can put online as mp3s? Havent heard them for ages.

Hi everybody, nice to see you're all still around. I'm still playing in more bands than i should. Sukmunki is Freekspert but without a certain mad scot. I'm also playing for This Floating World, Michael Eden, Winter North Atlantic among others.
We're (Sukmunki) playing at the bedroom on west street this wednesday and it would be great to see some faces from the past (hi Pete!).
It was a nice surprise to be nominated for best live band in the sheffield soundaloud awards. Why not come and see if we're worth voting for? :)
Honkytonk 02-05-2006, 14:59 I remember Brained and the longpigs. Weren't Cabaret voltaire form sheffield, and Chakk, or am I confused?
pete_fcs 02-05-2006, 15:17 yes they were; chakk's drummer was in longpigs at one point...
i knew crispin! do i get a prize now?

the longpigs bassist (simon i think) bought my bass amp from me when i lived on kelvin. he wheeled it along edith walk and was too scared to tell the kids not to take rides on it!

bumped into crispin hunt in crookes valley park in 1990, seven years before chart success.
he was lounging on a park bench, surrounded by three lasses.
me: "what you up to thesedays?"
crispin: "i'm packing in university. gonna form a band. we're gonna be famous."
me: "right."

Did you know The Longpigs once appeared on 'This Morning' I know this because I was a cameraman on the shoot.
NorthernSoul 03-05-2006, 11:27 the longpigs also supported U2 on a major stadium tour.
blammo became speedy and if i am right they appeared on the 1st national lottery show performing their 'almost' hit - boywonder
anyone remember a barnsley band called 'british racing green'? i used to see them regular in the late 90's. great band!
Honkytonk 03-05-2006, 12:56 the longpigs also supported U2 on a major stadium tour.

my other two failures in spotting pending fame:
scene: limit club 1987
me: "why do you have that tin foil stuff hanging around the stage?"
jarvis cocker: "'cos it looks better than nothing".
me (thinks): "you'll not get anywhere p...ing about like that!"

me (on own and not famous): "hmmmm i recognise that tin foil backdrop!"
:(
scene: surrey street 1993
dean honer (fan of my sampling work): "come round and record with me if you want, pete."
me: "yes okay."
scene two: studio somewhere, dean honer producing a britney spears track and buying a house in hathersage with the proceeds.
scene three: me living at parson cross wondering if i should've gone round dean's when i had the chance....

i think we did...i still have the poster (which i designed!) so i can check!
my fondest memory of death trash is at the gig we did with them at the leadmill in 1986.
they turned up unannounced, as another band had dropped out.
scene: leadmill cafe
murray (carrying guitar): we've come to do a gig!
nick reynolds: you can't, a decision has been made.
me and lou "two-guitars" gilbert: aw, come on nick, let 'em play, don't be such a rotten spoilsport! (or summat)
result: the fcs are highly esteemed by death trash despite the fact that we couldn't play.
Honkytonk 19-05-2006, 17:52 I think you 3 should have a meet somewhere and toast the old days. might join you!

Yog Sothoth 22-05-2006, 15:04 Does anybody remember Eric and the Frantics.
Hiya Al! "Eric and the Frantics"! Is that for real? LOL!
Muzz_Fents 27-05-2006, 13:44 that leadmill gig was only DTs second ever gig. trolley dog shag (i lived with ian) had been up all night and gayered out of playing that night cos they all felt rough but we knew they hadnt officially withdrawn. so we just turned up and kind of refused to not play :-) with a little help from FCS and steve mackie's mum, who was something to do with it! nick r was a bit snotty but we soon won him round ;-)
Terry_Latic 27-05-2006, 19:44 Hey all - I just joined this forum, after having Pete_fcs over to stay for a night in Leeds - and help me out with some music stuff.
Cheers Pete (when you get home and see this).
Really amazed to see that there is a handful of people out there discussing Sheffield bands of the 80s (I was in Nihilistics, Media Premonition, Feral and a couple of others - Iskra, for a while, a Blues Sisters gig...) - but I was always the talentless one on stage just because I was persistent.
Rob - Tarana - I was saying to Pete that next time I can get to Sheff for one of your gigs I will be there.
Terry

funnily enough, part of the reason i went to see terry was to arrange a 20th anniversary gig of the nihilistics, contemporaries of the notorious f... city s....ters.
i played in both bands as a teenager, so that puts me just younger than keith richards but older than the reynolds girls...
:hihi:

melthebell 29-05-2006, 18:07 im still toying with the idea of doing a website for this era in sheffield music, the bands never featured in the same breath as pulp, abc, human league etc
what do you musicians think about a page with a short history, discography maybe, a few mp3s?
the bands featured in my first post on here, others if ive forgotten any :P
pete_fcs 29-05-2006, 18:15 sounds like a great idea!
look at how many posts and views this thread's got!
poach 'em all and take 'em to a proper site! i have a huge archive of sheffield bands from the eighties (mr morality, bedlam choir, slopdosh, plague dogs, trolley dogshag etc....although these would need permission...) which could go on as mp3's!
and of course i'd let you put on my own old bands....all 35 of 'em....

SheffNiner 05-06-2006, 12:31 Hello melthebell et al
I work in same building as Pat Hancock, and used to work with Dom Bradshaw although dont see him much these days. Not sure if Bendy Monsters are still a going concern.
For short while I used to play in bands in and around West street(rehearsal rooms just down from dole office) v.briefly, my mates were in 'Hole in the Wall'
I also used to play down at the 'Basement' at Darmall, where if you were skint, they'd let you practice there for nowt.

SheffNiner 05-06-2006, 14:23 will do.
Pat and his crowd I think were Beaver Hill types I think, I was a Brookie.
n.b. should have mentioned my band days were early 80's upto about 85/86.
We used to rehearse at a place just off near Devonshire Green too, cant remember name of the place though- an old engineering works(now student flats).
melthebell 05-06-2006, 14:38 will do.

engineering works? ive heard of it cant quite remmeber the name, pete will lol
im sure loads of bands rehearsed there
media premonition did?
SheffNiner 05-06-2006, 14:47 As we played in thrown-together ad-hoc bands we'd rehearse where Mat(bass player) could find us a room. Think we used at Stag Works, and somewhere off Brammall Lane for a while. A lot of established bands rooms, when they weren't using them midweek etc.
There was another one we used once behind the Beehive used by the Mau-Mau's.
We also used a practice room regularly at Hillsborough Barracks and that was about 1987-ish.
melthebell 05-06-2006, 14:53 i like the mau maus :)

I can only vaguely remember practicing somewhere round Devonshire Green - was it behind the Washington somewhere?
I think we mostly used the Mason's room down the Wicker.
I remember going to a play drums for a punk/skateboard band up some outdoor rickety old wooden stairs somewhere off West Street - I wasn't good enough though. The one bloke I can remember was Glen - and I met him doing hunt sabotage.
CockyWalter 05-06-2006, 21:14 Yo Brother M, thanks for pointing me to here.
Glen the hunt sab is still in Sheff - he helped me celebrate my 40th by getting beaten up in the Red Lion at Heeley.
Just down the road from where Matt the violinist from Pig64 lives actually.
Mersbrook Bank Schoolyard's probaly the best place for anybody who wants to take up this thread in the flesh.
Terry_Latic 06-06-2006, 16:09 Off topic, I know, but mention of Meersbrook reminds me that Don Valley and the Rotherhides were in that neck of the woods, and, I think, The Beloved.
CockyWalter 06-06-2006, 19:17 Yup, I know of at least one Rotherhide with kids at the school.

HOW DARE YOU GO OFFTOPIC
1000 lines
erm i come over all schoolteachery then
Terry_Latic 07-06-2006, 16:45 Sorry - wrists slapped.
But, DV and the Rotherhides were more "punk" than some of the bands around at the time - "Waiting for the Day that Margared Thatcher's Dead" = a timeless classic.
Good to read that Glen is still rocking - and that the Red Lion is still a pub. I remember the anarchist meetings in there in the 80s.
Honkytonk 07-06-2006, 19:39 Sorry - wrists slapped.

Bloody hell, i remember Don Valley and the Rotherhithes. And i remember that song. They used to busk on Fargate, and i'm sure I saw them at the Leadmill. i thought they were more "Psycho Billy" - don't know if you had that expression up here.
Red Lion might still be here, but it's a right dump!
Terry_Latic 07-06-2006, 20:31 You're right about the Red Lion - I only went in for the meetings on Sunday nights in the back room.
White Lion - much better, or better still the Broadfield - I played pool for the "third" team - along with Wak and the actor who really shot Ernie Bishop.
melthebell 07-06-2006, 20:50 yeah im quite into a bit of psychobilly :)

melthebell 11-06-2006, 21:54 what was the name of that drummer in the dylans with curly hair?
not dylan?
*gets coat*
SheffNiner 12-06-2006, 09:14 Warra bout mi lads...Phil Murray And The Boys From Bury.....................still going strong!
I remember being in the boozer on Fox Hill in mid 80's when Stan was running it. PM and the BFB were playing and allowed my very drunk mate who was our ad-hoc singer on stage to do "Twist and SHout" with them, he kept forgetting the words and repeating same verse over and over until we draggd him off- Laugh? I nearly passed me fags round!
CockyWalter 12-06-2006, 11:13 Andy Cook was the Dylans drummer with curly hair.
I think the practice rooms we're on about were behind the shops just down from the Limit -they're all demolished now.
I don't remember any of Pete's bands rehearsing there but I still imagine I can hear The Plague Dogs every time I come out of The Dog and Partridge.
To get into those rooms you went through an archway next to a late night chippy that sold sloppy curry and chips which everybody then spilled falling up the very dangerous stairs.
They were owned by an albino fella who also had the jewelers on the front.
I remember the smallest practice room door in the world up on the roof - just big enough to get a 4x12 cab through.
It was obligatory for all bands rehearsing there to do an "urban decay" stlye photo amongst to bits of rusty broken manchinery in the yard and there were rats too.
Until Geg ate them all.
Triumphman 12-06-2006, 15:20 Funnily enough I was in Pig 64 as well, playing guitar.
They mutated into a band called Sticki, and might have had a couple of other names after that. Matt (violin player) now plays solo with loops etc under the name Sieben, and Jane (the aforementioned bass player) is now playing bass for Chicken Legs Weaver.
CockyWalter 12-06-2006, 20:50 Matt's put some nights on at the Lantern Theatre in Nether Edge recently - I remember him from The Glass Hammers - pre-Pig64 but already that swirling violin sound.
PhilMurray 12-06-2006, 22:55 check this out...........www.boysfrombury.co.uk

sounds like a different room!
fcs (and plague dogs) rehearsed at bailey street in the attic, and the happening men/ dylans crowd were on the ground floor for a while.
:)

the glass hammers!
i remember them. never liked the name! didn't they play the leadmill in 1989?

re;Practice rooms behind Limit, I been up those rickety stairs and accross the roof with a Carlsboro cab that weighed more than I did:help: , and all the time expecting roof to cave in. Also there was no mortar between the bricks in the practice rooms, which was a bit worrying when the wind got up.
What was the name of that Bass player from glass Hammers anybody?- he was good.
CockyWalter 13-06-2006, 15:20 Ha ha!
I bet the Glass Hammers loved the names of all your bands Pete.
melthebell 13-06-2006, 19:09 Ha ha!

lol
specially the **** city ****ters and go get ****ed :)
*sees how many of those words he can read*
pete_fcs 14-06-2006, 15:44 lol! point taken about my band names.....
but the glass hammers made me imagine buying a hammer from wilko's, getting it home, finding it was made of glass, getting very annoyed and having to take it back!
:hihi:
anyway i think i'm too old and boring to play in bands now.
i've switched from drums to piano and i am halfway through memorising 30 harpsicord suites by purcell.
as of today (i've just this minute tried it) i can play 15 of them blindfold.
it will be my new party trick!
;)

analogkid 16-06-2006, 10:25 Out of interest any of you guys know the whereabouts of Wanga who was the guitarist in Dog Soldier?
Terry_Latic 16-06-2006, 12:05 Pete
Still trying to contact The Grapes - I have a mobile number for Ash.
In the meantime, I've done a new song - have a listen on the Nihilies website - on the "other music" page - I've put it on there for you because of your problem with e-mails.

spamneggs 22-06-2006, 07:42 Only just seen this thread and read it all.
RE. The practice room at the bottom of west st. we used to share a room in the top of there with Rough Copy, who i thought were pretty good. A few other dodgy practice rooms i can remember were:-
Somewhere near Bramall Lane, a rabbit warren owned by the guy who bought the Arc Roral for scrap, i think we shared with the warning.
Scam - this was near where the new court house at west bar is , it was full of rats.
Back of the Wicker, where Broad st carpark is, Willey st or something used to share with a few bands but can only remember Cosa Nostra because the entire walls werw covered in there posters.
Terry_Latic 24-06-2006, 09:36 Nihilistics reunion gig
The Grapes - 13 September.
Featuring the original 1980s line up, including:
Pete f_c_s,
Paul of SLBC, Media Premonition etc, and
Tim - AKA Techno Ken
We're looking for another band to do the gig - preferably someone who was around in the 80s and fancies doing a reunion gig for a laugh.

RichieBlue 08-07-2006, 00:29 Hi all.
I must admit, this is a) my first time on this site, and
b) I feel quite intimidated by the musical knowledge between you!
Anyway, if this works, I shall be indebted to you for ever.
I am looking for the (unreleased) album by Speedy (formerly Blammo). There is slim pickings to be found on the web, and a google of the name brought me to your thread.
Now, I know I had a copy of this about 10 years ago, until my little bro (god bless him) left it to melt on the parcel shelf of our mum's car.
Coulod anyone point me in the right direction? I have one of their songs in my head and am quite certain it will not be shaken out until I hear it again.
Would anyone mind putting their thinking caps on for a man in need?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Tommy (Bass) 22-07-2006, 00:19 Pete of the F**k City Sh*****S????
The mans an Animal
....but he bought me a drink once so he's ok I suppose?
This is a great thread and its good to see folk still around after all these years.
Tommy (Bass) - SLOPDOSH BOBBAR & IVAN CRUMP
PS. Pete....If its ok with you I have a pic of you and me at a GGF gig at the Hallamshire in July 1987 I can put up (oooer!!) and a few SLOPDOSH ones if you want to see them?
melthebell 22-07-2006, 10:11 HAHAHA welcome tommy
good to see all these musicians from back in the forgotten era posting in this thread :)
Tommy (Bass) 22-07-2006, 18:32 Thanks MTB
.........now does anyone remeber that fella with a beard called Richard who used to photograph us? He was a mate of Smiffy (manager). Hes got some great pics but I have no idea what happened to him and some copies would be nice :D
The last time I heard from Pete (FCS) he sent me a 12" of something he was involved with called SLBC or summat like that around 1993/94 time.
Oh and if anyone does put the SLOPDOSH stuff on MP3 can I have a copy cos I dunno if I still have that tape which we did in October 1988 called 'Two Cartons of Yougurt and a Trumpet'.
Just to save any confusion as well, there was only ever one SLOPDOSH BOBBAR & IVAN CRUMP
Mixmif - vocals and sexual breathing
Dave 'beyond reach' Oates - Geetar
Tommy - Bass
Ral - other geetar
Mick - Drums
I saw a post where someone mentions the gig at Wath? That was a good gig. Didn't someone smash a door or something?
RE: The Bland
Another well recieved gig was supporting the Bland at Chesterfield Arts College. I know the first band got a slagging off in the papers for being **** which was bang out of order in our opinion even if they were :D
My personal favourite gig?
The Hallamshire Hotel in 1989. I think one of the bands was called 'ferrel' or summat like that? I know they had a bird who seemed a bit stuck up but she was well worth a jolly good rogering. Infact we only had 24 hours notice before we were due to play that gig and we was the first band on and it was said that the other bands were not keen on having us there because we had no manners and a sense of humour. Its was ****ing brilliant, the place was packed, Plug and John were keeping the crowds moving, we sounded good, the whole band were on top form. We went off and the place emptied, which ****** off the other band and the headline band even more, but we were polite and stayed till the end to make up the numbers :D This is one gig I'm not sure if there are any pictures of, if someone does have pictures from the HALLAMSHIRE gig in '89 can I see them? If your female I might even allow you to sleep with me before you hand them over if you like? :D:D:D
melthebell 22-07-2006, 18:58 Thanks MTB

dont think i saw that hallamshire gig, however i saw conflict and the plague dogs at take 2 that year and theres a band indeed called feral. also saw them in 1990 again with the plague dogs
i have a book with most of the gigs i saw written down so i actually remember :P
looks like i saw slopdosh 6 times (just holler if you want details of date, venue and bands :P)
the 12" is by slbc psychoterrorism research unit, i have 1 too, could be the same 12"
i believe i still have slopdosh on tape somewhere, if i can dig it out i might record onto cd and then rip onto the puter :)
by the way tommy you know me
Sean (who had green mohican, later in dreads) from the peace gardens, fountain, lived with stevo and that at holtwood road for a bit
i believe we had a falling out once which lead to fisticuffs in the peace gardens :P
good to see you still about, upto much musically still?
Tommy (Bass) 22-07-2006, 19:39 Shaun you ugly ****er, how you doing? Its been a long time mate. Don't think I ever came to 'fisticuffs' with you though??? Thats definately a new one on me, but I'm sure if we had you'd still be feeling it even today?;)
I was actually asking about you a while back but all I was told was you moved out of Sheffield a few years ago. Yeah you were DEFINATELY one of us. I have a pic somewhere of you at the front of the gig with Tadz and you turned up with the green hair wearing a flowery night shirt, I doubt you've ever seen the pic? Its not very clear but its enough for you and those who know you to agree it is you.....something I bet you would be more than happy to confirm anyway ya mad git :D Didn't you knock about with Smithy (from Rotherham) and Angela? I used to go out with Angie but I think Smithy was seeing her last time I heard? But thats going back about 15 years.
Tell you what Shaun it would be good to see you again mate. You was definately one of 'our lot'.
Tommy (Bass) 22-07-2006, 19:47 BTW.......Tadz also did the backing vocals on 'Sunday Sport' he's the one making the authentic orgasm sounds towards the end of the song and I thought you were there as well? I can't speak for the rest of the band but if you could put a link up to a 'Sunday Sport' mp3 thats ok with me cos lets be fair theres alot of ladies out there who deserve it :D
melthebell 22-07-2006, 19:58 lol
yeah i was smiffy all the time
and marmite andy and that
as far as i know i never went to any recordings
i do vaguely remember the gigs with the nightshirts :P
its stange, theres that many people on here from the peace gardens etc

i moved away in about 92 / 93
now seen terrorizing the countryside :)
Tommy (Bass) 22-07-2006, 21:04 Theres nowt wrong with the countryside mate. Sheep worrying is still my second favourire thing.
melthebell 22-07-2006, 21:34 Theres nowt wrong with the countryside mate. Sheep worrying is still my second favourire thing.
talking of which, you see one of the macc lads died a while back?
the macc lads at the take 2 was prolly the fullest gig ive ever seen, the only way to move was via crowd surfing lol
Tommy (Bass) 22-07-2006, 22:19 The two dayer? Yeah it was good. They were supported by Peter (of the Test Tube Babies) other band THE MASKED RAIDERS. I did read about their loss as well, twas bad. I think Chip Shop Phil was actually two thirds of that crowd? :D

Horse London eh? Wow, thats going back to 1989. I remeber them playing the TAKE TWO CLUB and I liked 'em so much they invited me down to their gig at the MARQUEE in London. Death Trash were supporting and went down like a lead balloon when Murry thought it would be very original to set fire to his guitar. HL were also mates with ZODIAC MINDWARP and used some of their equipment, so I got to twang a couple of Zodys guitars. I remeber Punky Clive being there and his mate called Gary I think?

analogkid 30-07-2006, 18:27 To be honest Mel I don't think anyone would mind you posting these songs as you'd be archiving them from a historical perspective and not for monetary gain.
Thanks for the GGF link, how good is that demo eh? Excellent songs forgotten how good they were. Nice guitar work Mr Barber
analogkid 30-07-2006, 18:29 By the way Mel, does the Dog Soldier demo have 'I Love Uranium' on it?
melthebell 30-07-2006, 18:34 By the way Mel, does the Dog Soldier demo have 'I Love Uranium' on it?
yup it does, however thats a song that wont play :(
its strange cos its recorded on the bside of the ggf demo, and that plays perfectly, you play the bside and most of the songs keep stopping due to a tight tape???? strange

when i saw the name death trades i thought, nah cant be
but it is...systematic annex related :P
ade ive pmed you.......with a link to the demo i uploaded a while back :)
seems strange giving a member of the band back his own demo lol, suppose thats what you call legal uploading?
anyway if you wanna contribute to my punk metal bands history thread feel welcome, and if you have any photos of the band, i wouldnt mind seeing em :P
death trades 05-08-2006, 17:23 I last saw Kev in St.Ives around 1995, just bumped into him ... I know Mark still sees Shaun around Sheffield at weekends, did you know Mark miffy Smith as well then?
i tried the link to that zip file, but my download manager's telling me it doent exist....thanks for offering though
death trades 05-08-2006, 17:27 LOL... sorry, but my keyboard is playing up so i cant type brackets , exclamations etc...
yep, the username was hopefully a giveaway, i was trying too choose from the songs i remember:
death trades
resist to exist
i wonder
by 1986, i'd left the band and Kev stopped talking to me up until i bumped into him in 1995... i live in devon now, but i keep in touch with mark and have a boozy session everytime i visit him.
melthebell 05-08-2006, 17:34 hmmmmm
those kind of sites dont like download managers
i use the one with firefox, works fine, keep trying
if not let us know and ill try and get it to you again
not sure i knew mark, maybe
tbh this should all be in the punk metal thread in the history section :P
is there anychance you can do us a bit of history on the band that you can remmember.
as its a band i remember but dont know much about
line up changes, any gigs you remember, any other bands shared the practice room (behind the com centre in woodhouse if i remember rightly) i remmeber being scared as a kid and seeing in their with all the punk posters all over the walls :P
death trades 05-08-2006, 17:49 I'll try firefox... mmm I'm gonna have to kickstart them memory a bit here...just for starters, i remember Mick from the centre driving us to London, where we did a gig with around a dozen other bands. It had been organised by CONFLICT and i think it was in Gloders Green? or Lewisham? the pub was the Togers Head anyway.
After our set, Mark and Shaun went to the toilets and a couple of big guys dressed in black came in behind the, first they thought they were gonna get a kicking, until one of them introduced themselves as members of conflict and that they wanted to put us on their Mortarhate compilation.
I also remember being offered a slot at a festival at the marcus Garvey centre in Nottingham , by Flux of pink indians....as me and kev were well into them, i was wetting myself about doing a gig with them...Mark was more a Rudimentary Peni fan. We sat in a corner of the hall all day, sat with the poet Joolz, buit no-one approached us....watched Flux do their bit... watched a few more...Crass came on...Chumbawamba went on....then Kev got peed off and went to find Colin from Flux...only to be told that unfortunately, the owners had been asked to wind the event down and no more bands were going on.....aaaaaaghhhhhhhh.
We used to support Chumbawamba, before they went Tubthumping and occupied the peace church just up from Sheffield cathedral ...I remember a reggae band going on before us and shorting out the P.A LOL... then a guy turns up and gets a silver foil wrapper from a Wrigleys and rolls it tight....then puts it in the plug for the P.A- then we went on...i was cacking myself.
death trades 05-08-2006, 17:50 Golders Green and Tigers Head LOL...told you i was having problems...
melthebell 05-08-2006, 17:52 cool thats the sort of stuff :)
a proper history from a lost band
melthebell 05-08-2006, 17:56 a small bit of history about systematic annex by death trades who played with em, hope you dont mind me copying that here, but i think the mods will moan if we keep off topic in that other thread :P

death trades 05-08-2006, 22:59 Mickey Flanagan, I would love to know what he is doing now...he did loads for us.
Just finished downloading the file, can't thank you enough...
I feel saddened and elated at the same time... resist to exist was wriiten around my bass line, but this recording isn't me....most weird.
Who? however, definetly IS ME and I'd forgotten all about it LOL...
even Miffy will have trouble remembering it.
Oh... Death Trades, that's me as well.. bass a bit out of tune... done at a bloke's house in Woodhouse, i seem to recall he was called Ken hargeaves, sadly, he's probably not around, he was getting on then...
I remember Mark laying a second guitar track down and I was sat next door listening with Kev and Shaun...
there was a convection heater on the wall and Shaun told me to just tap my forearm on it... I asked why and he just said: just do it... so i did - Doh... he jumped on me and held my arm on it....a mass of raised red dots that stung like crap for the next two days....cheers williams, you cock, LOL
death trades 05-08-2006, 23:02 OH,by the way, you mentioned you had contacted someone who had a Chumbawamba gig recorded? were we supporting? if so, can you get me the recording? NAME YOUR PRICE SIR...
death trades 06-08-2006, 00:54 LOL...I forgot to mention.. when i left systematic annexe, i auditioned for HULA... I went to Nort's place up Abbeydale Road and jammed with the band in Nort's basement... they then gave me all their red Rhino label EP's to learn the bass lines... i chickened out, cos Nort had loads of polaroids in his house sporting erections/ loads of bowls with cat food and loads of bedside clocks all stuck at 2 o' clock... my mum drove me down to leave the ep's on his doorstep saying i had joined another band.... 6 months later, i read the NME to discover that HULA supported Depeche Mode and even played Wembley...AAAAAGGGGGHHH

LOL
which leads us nicely onto media premonition :P
i have a demo tape of them that nort co produced
which ive ripped, not sure im supposed to share that tho tbh
melthebell 06-08-2006, 09:14 by the way i always remember shaun and kev (i think) used to walk round dressed as adam and the ants in the real early eighties, did you too?
i know its a bit of an embarrassing question, sorry :P
on the sleeve of the demo it says copyright 1984/1985
ive always believed anathema was 1984 and systematic annex was 1985
correct? obviously youll only know when you guys recorded yours
1985 wouldve been the year i left school :P
melthebell 06-08-2006, 09:35 lol ive got so many questions about systematic, sorry dude :P
just a band ive always loved but dont know anything about, even tho i knew members of (mainly cos i was a bit young, you guys were a few years older than me)
could you type out the list of songs and put which songs you actually played on and which you know the others were on?
ill try and compile as much info about systematic and make a webpage if thats ok?
death trades 06-08-2006, 09:39 LOL, really? I joined them in 84, so I only knew kev and shaun with mohawks...they had an interview in the sheffield star music section and they said they were looking for a bass player. i rang kev and he got mick to come and pick me up in the community centre van, me living all the way out in burncross...i wsh i had mor recordings and photos ...i imagine kev has loads. shaun went onto join a psychobilly band that had a huge following, but none of us are playing in bands. when i get together with mark, we end up jamming to RHCP, pearl jam, STP, soundgarden etc...BUT NOT ADAM AND THE ANTS LOL...
melthebell 06-08-2006, 09:48 shaun went onto join a psychobilly band that had a huge following,
the radiacs?
when i search for systematic annex on google, theres 1 tape that comes up on peoples trades lists..........a demo with mdc live on the other side, dont have a clue if its the acceptance demo or something else, dont think theres any live systematic out there either :( shame
ive only ever seen one copy of the acceptance demo and thats what i have
aaahhhh your not a woodhouser like the rest of em then?
death trades 06-08-2006, 13:48 that was them i think...yep, i was the outsider

As a former member of Media Premonition - I'm about 100% certain nobody would mind.
Also - I read an earlier post about Feral - I did that gid at the Hallamshire as the drummer (the bass pedal broke half way through, which buggered me a bit as I couldn't really play drums in the first place). I remember the plague dogs were in the audience. The singer was Simone. I didn't last long with them.
Also - The Nihilistics just had a weekend get together to practice for the reunion gig at the Grapes on 13 Sept. Will be a good night for all Sheffield 80s band nostalgics - we'll have plenty of local old stuff on in between bands.
melthebell 07-08-2006, 16:56 cool thats 2 demos i may be able to share :)
its the nitro karaoke ep tape, if that makes a difference?
any ex ggf members in the audience? :P
ive seen feral twice according to my book, cant remember if ive already said, said it again just incase :)
anybody know owt about swampwalk? are they a sheff band? i seem to have seen them...with truth decay once, i cant remember em tbh
Terry_Latic 07-08-2006, 18:43 If you are in contact with BMR Chris - tell him hey up from Terry. We were in the ill-fated Steel City Anarchist Group together, about a generation ago.
Tommy (Bass) 21-08-2006, 12:02 Wow...this thread stopped dead in its tracks. I can now assume that Slopdosh were actually the sexiest of all the bands and every one else was just second place? :D:D:D
Terry_Latic 22-08-2006, 16:16 You're probably right Tommy. I don't think we (The Nihilistics, or Media Premonition, or Feral for that matter) were up to much in the sexiest band stakes - unlike the FCS, who may have just nicked it.
If you are in contact with BMR Chris - tell him hey up from Terry. We were in the ill-fated Steel City Anarchist Group together, about a generation ago.
Chris and his new band will be up in Sheffield 19th October doing a gig at the Red House
happyhippy 24-08-2006, 13:00 sounds like a different room!
fcs (and plague dogs) rehearsed at bailey street in the attic, and the happening men/ dylans crowd were on the ground floor for a while.
:)
Christ(TM) knows how many bands have practiced on Bailey Street! Lost count of how many times I fell out of Rebels and ended up in there ........ anyway, a couple of metal bands I remember from the (very) early 90's were Systematic Insanity and Reprobate, a very dodgy indie/rock band called Fool's Gold (ahem), and (I'll get slaughtered for this) Candy Paige from the late 80's ..........

Can't remember the names from Systematic Insanity, but I know most of them used to live in Firth Park/Shiregreen, and used to go in the Wharncliffe. Can see the guitarist clearly in my head ....... I think Lee (who's now a glass collector in t'Corp) used to knock about with them too. I think they played a few gigs with Boltthrower??????
Somewhere I've got Reprobate's demo on tape - I did have the original, but that went west a long, long time ago ........
happyhippy 24-08-2006, 14:29 think i knew members of those, forgot about em tbh

Matt and Wes seem to ring a bell with Systematic Insanity ........ and a short ginger guy with a dodgy 'tache and beard ........
happyhippy 31-08-2006, 15:13 Actually it might have been Wit, not Wes ........
Terry_Latic 05-09-2006, 22:57 Just one week to go till the Nihilistics 19th anniversary reunion gig at The Grapes - featuring Pete fcs, Paul of SLBC/Media Premonition and Tim - AKA Techno Ken etc.
Just £3 on the door.
Will play old tracks by lots of old Sheffield bands between bands.
Latest news - Dog Canute are going to play this night as well - anyone who liked Midnight Choir will enjoy them.
