Anyone out there ever been to Croatia - thinking of going there for a holiday this year so any recommendations for hotels and places to go would be great.

Not much to do for a 3 year old child though. matsalleh 28-06-2005, 22:55 Have been there a couple of times, but as said perhaps not much for a small child.Porec and Makarska are both small coastal towns and good.Beware a lot of places in the brochures may be fairly isolated if you do not hire a car. Enjoy. PopT 29-06-2005, 08:37 Some years ago I spent some time in Croatia, although I have to admit there have been a couple of wars since then. It was a very quiet place then but beautiful. I found the language and road signs a difficulty (Cyrillic Letters) If you are contemplating any driving take a compass then if you hit a crossroads at least you will head in the right direction. Happy Days! LordChaverly 29-06-2005, 08:53 I think you will enjoy it. The Adriatic coast is beautiful. The beaches though are very different from what you might expect, in that they tend to be rather thin and stony/rocky rather than sandy. Popt's reference to the Cyrillic alphabet no longer applies. During the period when Croatia was part of Yugoslavia, you could find signs in both the Roman and Cyrillic alphabets. Now Croatia is an independent state, it uses the Roman alphabet. It is also Catholic, not Orthodox and is becomimg increasingly Westernised (in fact in many respects it always was, being formerly part of the Austro-Hungarian empire) and has strong aspirations to join the EU.. dawny1 29-06-2005, 09:35 Thanks folks going to look at some brochures think I need to stay near Dubrovnik area but it does look like a beautiful country. Just fancy somewhere a bit different and this year I only have my son to take with us as my 3 daughters go away with their Dad (well they were supposed to  ) Next year when I take all the brood will pick somewhere more commercial as they are older kids. chickmonk 29-06-2005, 12:48 Croatia is super super lovely! Split is really nice, as is Dubrovnik. I'm dead jealous! Have fun  Lickszz 29-06-2005, 23:18 Once the word gets out these type of places will become too popular. shirker 29-06-2005, 23:58 Went to Dubrovnik in the seventies, can't remember too much, also drove through Yugoslavia in the mid eighties, what struck me was how friendly the people were. Its got a nice coastline too. Nothing recent though. RagingBronco 30-06-2005, 09:06 no i have not ever been to croatia dont plan to |
