View Full Version : First mid - week evening walk
MissChatter 18-03-2009, 22:02 THE FIRST MID-WEEK EVENING WALK WILL BEGIN :
ON: THURSDAY 2ND APRIL.
MEET: AT HARLIQUIN PUB ON NURSERY STREET
TIME: 6PM.
BUS SERVICE: 53 (stops outside the pub) apporox every ten mins from sheffield interchange and markets.
PARKING: behind the pub, on the left.
WALK DETAILS: INDUSTRIAL SHEFFIELD. A city centre walk which takes us near to the River Don and Kelham Island. The walk is just over 2 miles and takes around 1 hour. However this does not include the several pub stops which we will have on this walk. We will eventually return back to the Harliquin pub.
The walk is suitable for those who have never walked before, a good start as very sociable especially with the pub stops.
Start and finish at the Harlequin? Hmmm. You will see me at the start, you will see me at the end, but will you see me inbetween :hihi:

I hope so Scoobz - you're leading it!!!
We'll be there for this one!

I'm a possible / probable depending on whether or not I'm off out doing secret government work that evening
MissChatter 19-03-2009, 08:32 I will be on this one as well.
Agent Orange 19-03-2009, 16:29 I might be tempted to head along. I want to see what these evening walks are about :D
Hippiechick3 19-03-2009, 19:10 Nice one - i'lllbe along for this .
Rivelin6 20-03-2009, 12:49 Might be starting my night time duties that night so not be able to do the walk but maybe able to meet you afterwards at the Harlequin if not too tired.
We won't be along- we'd be driving in for longer than we would be walking!
Village Owl 21-03-2009, 10:59 I'll be along on this one!!!

Being realistic, this isn't so much a walk as morelike a pub crawl.........isn't it?
MissChatter 21-03-2009, 18:06 a very sociable walk I would say.
shameless 21-03-2009, 19:05 Away that week so can't make it. Sounds a good one though!
canada_girl 22-03-2009, 11:03 Hey Everyone! Right so, is it a pub crawl or walk? I'm thinking this one might be perfect to start little Megan on as it's short and if she kicks off we're not stranded in the middle of nowhere. But, if if it's actually a pub crawl; probably not terribly appropriate?
MissChatter 22-03-2009, 12:25 I think it would be fair to say its a walk with a few pub stops.
Which means it's a pub crawl!
MissChatter 22-03-2009, 22:42 so will we be on all fours then ha haha
Agent Orange probably will, he always ends up on all fours
MissChatter 23-03-2009, 18:44 hahaha yep i hear he does hahahah
wondertec 27-03-2009, 17:19 would a newbie be welcome?
Village Owl 27-03-2009, 17:21 would a newbie be welcome?
Hi, Newbies are always welcome you'll find us all very welcoming. Lokking forward to meeting you if you come along.
I'm looking forward to this guided tour of Sheffield's heritage, I'm sure it will be educational and informative
would a newbie be welcome?
Yeah, course you'd be welcome. No need for any walking gear though cos it's just a saunter round the streets, with a couple of stops at some real-ale pubs :D.
I'm looking forward to this guided tour of Sheffield's heritage, I'm sure it will be educational and informative
There will be information imparted all through the walk, and a short test at the end of the walk to see who has been listening :suspect:
Just bumping this up a bit, as there's only 3 days now before the first evening walk of the year. Anybody else fancy it?
foxforcefive 31-03-2009, 09:32 I was looking forward to coming along and bringing little master fox, unfortunately it's his easter disco the same night, so will have to leave it this week.

That's a shame. Nevermind Foxy, there'll be other, perhaps more appropriate walks to come throughout the summer.
Village Owl 01-04-2009, 17:54 Sorry:sad: Hemlock and Eclair, I know you've put a lot of effort into organising this walk but I'm going to have to pull out:rant:.
Though it's getting better I'm still feeling a bit the foot I hurt on Sunday's walk, so I'm going to rest it to make sure it's okay for the weekend.
Afterall I can't miss one on home ground can I:!:
MissChatter 01-04-2009, 19:24 foxforcefive and village owl, sorry neither of you can make it, hope you will be able to join myself and hemlock on our next one. xx
Hippiechick3 01-04-2009, 19:25 Sorry about your foot Village Owl - hope its better for Sunday. (Didnt realise you'd hurt it though at the time)
rednelly 01-04-2009, 19:48 i will be there and really looking forward to it. :)
I will be there, no secret government work for me that evening.
neoteric 02-04-2009, 10:09 Sorry about the short notice and my absence from the walks and the forum for the past month or so, I'm still having continuing problems with my health but would like to get along to this one. Don't know if I will be up to the full course, but I can always find my way back to the Harlequin - but alas have to stay off the juice:(
I know it's short notice but I would appreciate a lift from where I work if anyone is going from around St Mary's Road. If not I will try and get there for 6:00pm and will txt scoobz if I'm going to be late.
Really missed everyone so looking forward to seeing you all there:love:

Wb old friend, be nice to see you again! I think Hemlock will be your best bet liftwise, I'm coming from the wrong direction for you these days. Having said all that, once again had my car vandalised last night & only just got it mobile otherwise wouldn't have been able to get there myself tonight. Some sad people about these days :(

I wasn't referring to you - I was referring to the countless cafe owners Scoobz has upset during our Sunday walks...but I obviously touched a nerve :D
What a fascinating and enlightening walk that was tonight. I especially enjoyed exploring some of the old buildings along the way. Photos tomorrow.
MissChatter 02-04-2009, 21:49 I am suprised I really enjoyed the walk tonight, it was all of what taxman said but entertaining, mmmmmm from, plugs to ice cream to porn and orange agent hahaha. This walk was was a fab stroll around a little of sheffield.
Also want to say how much BM and myself enjoyed tonights get together.
I mean, you can hardly call a lurch between pubs a walk can you? :suspect:
Very atmospheric though, and great company down at the Kelham Island made for an enjoyable evening, with some great stories told, and some wonderful plans made for the summer. What else could a person want? yep, that's right, a kebab to finish the night off :D
Roll-call for the night was..............Billysmum, Eclaire, Taxman, Neoteric, Agent Orange, Hemlock, Mr Hemlock, Scoobz, Rednelly.
We really enjoyed the stroll around a part of town I've never been before. There were so many beautiful old buildings to see & a lovely stroll by the river Don, even though we didn't see any otters! There has certainly been a lot of work been done around here - well worth a mooch around. A nice easy stroll to break us in to walking on a Thursday eve.
Where were all the newbies?!? You all missed a great evening, great company, even greater conversation & lots & lots of laughter. Come on al of you out there who want to get into walking - these walks are just up your street!
MissChatter 02-04-2009, 22:45 I am still laughing now, the evening walks are great for a stroll nothing over the top, and these walks are about the social aspect just as much as the walking. Yep otters what happend to them. still trying to get over board room antics on a saturday at work conversation hahahahaha
I think the idea of otters in the River Don near the centre of Sheffield is a romantic notion, and looking for them last night was good fun, but was possibly a rather futile task? :suspect: However, if Agent Orange is convinced that they're there, well, who are we to argue. :)
Speaking of rivers though, how nice it was to see those volunteers clearing up the river, and obviously having such a good time while they were doing it. Now there's an idea for a social meet - bring your wellies and get stuck in!
neoteric 03-04-2009, 06:47 Well it was good to get back and start with a nice gentle stroll and some geat contrast between the old and new in this lovely part of Sheffield. No otters but some people beavering away in their wet suits cleaning out the river.
Great company and laughter all evening, thanks to everyone for their best wishes and I'm so much looking forward to getting out and about on some longer walks soon. Also thanks to Mr & Mrs Hemlock for the lift it was much appreciated.
Agent Orange 03-04-2009, 09:09 Cheers for a good walk and nice evening. I think I drank more than I walked, but hey ho. Who am I to argue :D
MissChatter 03-04-2009, 09:11 neo, it was so good to see you back. Next one is not the norfolk park is botannical gardens walk. I think the love and laughter of the group last night was fab, which i think made a nice walk a great walk.
BAMBIGIRL 03-04-2009, 12:57 Can`t believe i missed this walk. My phone died and i`ve lost all your numbers .I really must get on line!
MissChatter 03-04-2009, 15:41 Cheers for a good walk and nice evening. I think I drank more than I walked, but hey ho. Who am I to argue :D
sorry i did not say goodbye, but didnt want to interupt the conversation with the blonde you were talking to outside in the cold. x
Here are the photos (http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/saulmcintyre/KelhamIsland#) from last night's evening walk. We didn't go in all the pubs in the photos....honest! :)
MissChatter 03-04-2009, 16:58 Great photos Taxman, xx

Anybody who doesn't know Sheffield very well couldn't fail to be impressed by the wide diversity of subjects shown in your pics Taxman. I can't wait for the Upper Don Walk to be completed, I think when it is it'll be much nicer with the scruffy 5 Weirs Walk. (Great pics as usual btw :))
Agent Orange 04-04-2009, 10:25 sorry i did not say goodbye, but didnt want to interupt the conversation with the blonde you were talking to outside in the cold. x
Haha it wasn't like that :D I had a crafty smoke and got talking to her as she also was smoking
Village Owl 04-04-2009, 14:42 Sounds like I missed a cracking walk, so sorry I had to miss it.
You'll have to fill me in on the great plans for summer next time I see you all.
Hopefully I'll be on the next evening walk.
