This band are on every single night of the week at 10 p.m. on Rockworld TV ( Sky Channel 378 ). They are amazing! Has anyone heard them? They've got some brilliant songs, and the onstage banter puts contemporary bands to shame.

"I've got a lovely monitor...it just buzzes" (that's what the singer said!!!)

Brilliant!!

Have you heard their tribute band - Alien Sax Friend? It consists of mates of the band reworking their songs for brass instruments from another planet.

Have been going strong for around 25 years  ...and yet, are they a staple of R2? :hihi:

Iggy Pop is a fan I believe - around the time of Iggy's Blah Blah Blah tour, saw one of his backing band sporting an Alien Sex Fiend T-shirt.

Isn't the show on Rockworld 1 hour? It's always billed as 10-11 p.m. As for their songs, were they often ad libbed? I'm only going on that one performance, but it sounds like he's making it up as he goes along sometimes (e.g. "swing low sweet chariot...", "I'm an ape, I'm an ape. Ape ape ape".

Late 1990s band Venini did that I think.

I'll definitely have to check out more Alien Sex Fiend. I added them on myspace.

its always stated as an hour..........but i tried recording a few things off there and gave up the timings ridiculous, its all over the shop.
as for sex fiend.
they may have ad libbed live (they barely ever played a gig without tripping on lsd)
but there songs are just crazy anyway.........including some of their biggest singles (here cum germs, hurricane fighter plane, ignore the machine) the lyrics are just all over the place.
they started off quite rockabillyish, then went goth, then hippy trippy ish, then later on dived headlong into acid house

What is the singer called? He complains a lot on that gig that's on every night.

"Can't hear the guitar!"

"Turn those ******* ls off. It's like playing in someone's front room!"

And his insightful comment, "None of us have ever been to art school, so we're an anti-art school band". Er, indeed!

Being at the gig looks great though. I befriended them on myspace recently. Hopefully they'll play the Leadmill / Corp / Grapes / Frog n Parrot soon.

That'd be mega. They'd better play "Drive My Rocket"!

Thanks

He's brilliant! I love his sporadic dancing too. Sometimes he looks angry, other times just amused! Are Nik and Mrs married then?

I noticed he was singing about driving rocket up uranus til it hurts. Wow!

I'm an ape!

Wow, the Fiend were quite high on the bill weren't they? I've been checking out some of their recent gigs on YouTube. Nik is now bald! I was so very upset by this! Nevermind. I'm glad I found them. Better late than never!

As for my own musical tendencies, hmm, well I'm obviously well into Alien Sex Fiend. I like the shambolic, lo-fi characteristics of their music. Drum machines are always a bonus too (although not Sisters of Mercy style!). I love drum machines! They had a drummer too, but most beats seemed to be pre-programmed (although it took a long time apparently because they didn't have expensive equipment!!).

I vowed to see Kraftwerk live and I did. Now I asseverate that I shall indeed see the Fiend live before I expire!

Hello you Northern Monkeys, I am the Fiends original drummer, check out the pics on my myspace page johnniehaha

Did you know there is a group on Facebook where me, Ratti and Yaxi are involved, with hundreds of rare pics and funny stories. It's called the Official Alien Sex Fiend Forum, have a look and you can ask us anything and get involved. Nik and Mrs Fiend aren't there because I don't think they like us any more.

Do you get any royalties from your daily performance on Rockworld TV?

I suppose they'll come through eventually. The record company have always been very good on that front.
