Why can`t managment value you for the work you do and give recognition when its due.

I leave my job today after 10 years to take on a new challenge and I got insults from my line manager.

Makes you wonder when you do a good job just whats its worth to the managment. Money I think, and all your hard work does not matter as long as the money is coming in.

Not all the managment are like this but on a day I should be happy and sad leaving friends there is always one that spoils it for you.

That's life Rosie, sadly there are always those kind of aholes to make you remember them long after you have forgotten the good times.

The line manager in question is female, and I am not missing my last day because I always finish the job I started and I do it well.

I love those friends I work with they are my family and with how hard we work, sometimes its nice to put personal feelings aside and be happy for those trying to get on in life.

I think there is a bit of the green eyed monster in there.

Just smile very sweetly at her, you're leaving and she's still stuck there, so it does sounds like a touch of envy on her part.

Invite your workmates for a quick drink after work or at the weekend but be sure NOT to invite her, it'll surely stick in her craw :gag:

We have planned the leaving party and she is not invited.

Nah, if you invite her and then you get a little bit tipsy, you may want to come out with some home-truths for her and then you'll only spoil the effect of absolute disdain for her.

Bet you wish you were a fly when your friends go back to work and talk non-stop about what a great leaving party you had, the look on her face will be priceless

Most managers do not give a t*ss about their workforce other than getting the job done.My present manageress is a graduate of the Saddam Hussein charm school, but she was absent for all the lectures on staff relationships. She has the paper qualifications but no common sense,so is insecure, and the staff know it.Thankfully I retire next year and am out of it.

I believe that management (middle) are the most incompetant people in the world......(unfortunately I'm one tomorrow so expect nothing:D )

Middle management are just there to slave drive the workforce for the big bosses at the top :) A little bit of authority in the wrong hands doesnt do anybody any good.

Would you say abuse of position is more likely in the civil service as opposed to working in private businesses?

No. My manager comes down on us like a ton of bricks for the slightest error and he doesn't tolerate any stepping out of line. However, he's not above fiddling his own flexi-time, changing past holidays to sick days etc. None of the higher management care, so it's down to us lackeys to pile on the pressure. This is in a private company.
