I used Spysweeper to scan my pc for viruses and suchlike and it got rid of most of the little b*ggers but I noticed that the two items mentioned above took more work to get rid of - it took several attempts and I'm not sure whether they'll be on there when I check my pc tonight (fatigue got to me last night.)

Has anybody come across these before and is there something that will kill them dead permanently? I want something that is the IT equivalent of how Roundup works on garden weeds.

Microsoft's own (well, bought ;)) AntiSpyware (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en) tool is very good, and in a lot of cases catches things left behind by other utils. I used to use Ad-aware and Spybot as Joel mentioned, before the MS one was released (and do still use them, but less regularly). Not that I've ever had anything to remove from my own pc - get yourself Firefox or (my personal perference) Opera! :)

I installed Microsoft Antispyware Beta several months ago, and can recommend it, also. I never really got on with Adaware of Spybot, they always seemed a bit complicated to me....lol

MS Antispyware does everything I need it to do automatically, i.e. blocks spyware when it's detected, and does a full scan weekly. When I first installed it, there was some spyware on my pc, but, since I installed it, I think it's only ever found one item in the weekly scan, and that was something innocent and was meant to be there.

It's really easy to set up, which was what I found to be a problem with Adaware and Spybot.

It is still Beta; the current version expires at the end of December, but they have just extended from July, which was the original expiry, so I suppose, if the full version isn't available before December, MS will extend it again.
