Facebook now has a facility where users can 'rate' each piece of information posted by others. For example:

Post: Jon is going to the football match today.

Comment: Richard likes this :thumbsup:


What about a similar system for posts on the forum? Allowing users to tick a box under posts (if they so choose) may help others to define how useful each post is. This would be particularly welcome in large threads, where users may want to scan quickly and find the interesting parts, and with long posts, rather than read through everything.

Under each post could be a tally of what has been marked, for example

'X' amount of users found this post useful/insightful/offensive/irrelevant.

It might discourage certain users from trolling too, if they continually have posts marked as irrelevant or offensive. It would also be a handy marker for moderators should they receive a complaint about a user, they could quickly scan posts and find out if they have a habit of causing trouble...
