Over a century and a half after the original Chartist movement in the UK, a group of leading lefts and trade union leaders have started a campaign to gain a million signatures on a new charter. John McDonnell sets out some of the arguments in this article. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/mar/09/protest-recession)
The new charter, which it’s hoped well over a million will sign, contains a set of basic demands to ensure the working class aren’t the ones who get royally shafted by the recession.

Would you sign it? And is there any actual point to it at all or is it just a gimmick which will hinder others trying to offer something different from the neo-liberalist policies the main parties are all tied to?
