View Full Version : Rovina Woodruff born 1896 Sheffield
margaret 20-11-2003, 19:26 Looking for descendants of Rovina born Sheffield 1896.
She was my father's eldest sister.
I believe she married and had two sons.
Rovina and her sister Ada are the only two children I have not found whilst compiling my family tree.
I believe she lived in Heeley in the 1940's and 1950's.
If anyone is related to this lady, please get in touch with me.
Thank you,
Margaret
I used know of a William Woodruff and his family who lived on Saunders Place, Wybourn, Sheffield 2.
His wife was called Rosie he had 2 sons Billy and ? and a younger daughter called Rosetta who is now about 47 ish. Billy, the father, died sometime ago but
Rosie only died about 2/3/4 years ago and still lived at the same address up until she passed away. I'm not sure where his children are now.
margaret 05-05-2004, 17:34 Carol,
As I do not live in Sheffield, I only visited it as a child, I do not know where the district Wybourn is. Is it near Heeley? This is where the family were about 1921/25.
These people you mention could be grand/greatgrand children of
William Woodruff, but if they were related to Rovina, they would not be called Woodruff!! Rovina was a granddaughter of William through Frederick Woodruff.
Thank you for replying however, and I am interested in all the children/grandchildren of William through Frederick, Henry, Loftus and George. Hope that one day I will have some luck.
Regards,
Margaret
margaret 24-08-2005, 16:16 I have now found that Rovina married Walter Breedon in 1916 in Sheffield. Any help to find children of this marriage would be great!

I remember Rosie I was her supervisor at George Butlers for a year or so, she was o.k. but I didnt know that she had passed away, Im sorry to hear that.
margaret 25-08-2005, 21:18 The Rosetta you mention, I have just found out, is the daughter of Rovina's brother William Woodruff. This family definitely link.
Do you know how many children they had? Her daughter Rosetta hasn't been too forthcoming on her siblings!!:)

Rosie, as you call her, died about 2000.

metalman 25-08-2005, 22:38 Rovina's a very unusual name, not one I've ever come across before. Any idea what the origin of it was?
metalman 25-08-2005, 22:47 Was she definitely Rovina? I've looked her up on the 1901 census and she's very clearly listed as Robina, not Rovina. Interestingly though FreeBMD has her down as Rovina. Have you got the actual certificates for her?
metalman 25-08-2005, 22:58 Hmm, I've Googled it now and found your thread about them on the Rootschat message board so that sort of explains where the Rovina name came from. All very interesting.
margaret 26-08-2005, 08:53 Yes Metalman, This name is unusual. I think it originates from Ireland where her grandmother came from. The original Robena/Ravina disappeared after entering a convent in 1881.!!
I believe the Rovina that I am searching for had two sons. If I could find those I would be delighted. They would have been born after 1916, but access to records are a bit thin on the ground after 1910. Donald/Desmond Breedon is a possibilty, according to another cousin who had more contact with this part of our family.
