Hi

Was wondering if anyone could tell me when I can expect my maternity exception card. Not sure of the correct name but the one you get free prescriptions with.

With both previous pregnancies I received the card within a week of confirming with drs but I am 9 weeks now and still haven't received anything.

It goes through me paying for things if I can get them for free I pay enough into the system to expect some perks now and again and I am getting desperate for something to combat constipation.::o

Have you filled out and sent the form? The doctor or midwife fills in part of it and then you fill in the rest ans send it. I'm not sure how long it takes to come after that. I have sent for mine but haven't received it yet.

Thanks

I can't remember sending anything off last time - do you get the form from the drs?

When you send the form off, if you dont recieve anything in 4 weeks then tell your midwife (your MW will give you the form) I had to send off a second form as nothing happened with the first and apparently it is quite common that they get 'lost'.

Corbyn - I would check with your MW to see if it worth sending off another one if it has been a few week since you sent the first. After I sent of my second form my card came within two weeks.

Yes you need to fill a form in. I did with both my pregnancies. I just filled mine in at reception and they passed it too the mw.

Thanks. I didn't send it long ago as wasn't on the ball! Good to know that it shouldn't take long to come. I really can't remember how long it took last time.

Skippy, your midwife should give you the form the first time you see her. I think you can also get them from your Doctor. There is a bit that either your Dcotor or Midwife needs to fill out so you will need one of them to do that for you.

While you're waiting for the card to come through you should still be able to get free prescriptions and nhs dental treatment if you show the front cover of your notes.

I had to get a prescription and hadn't got my card when I was first pregnant with our 2nd baby. I told the pharmacy assistant and she wrote on the top that the card was in the post and I didn't have to pay.

You do need a form to fill in from either your GP or the midwife and it came fairly quickly once I'd remembered to post it!!! Doh!
