After his little escpade last week, Master Rupert was taken to the vets this evening and was chemically castrated. The chip will gradually release its contents and in 6 weeks or so he will be completely infertile for at least 6 months. Because he is a smaller dog, the chip could work for up to 18 months, which will make him possibly unable to father a litter until he is 3 and a half which would suit us just fine. The needle was bigger than that used for microchipping but he was such a good boy and did not fuss. Also, he is not sulking now either.

I am so stupid I had this idea that it was done by a pill or jab or something :blush: well that should stop the boys fun for a while, and save your nerves a fair bit too I would think after his little adventure :rolleyes:

It is usually a regular jab which only lasts a couple of weeks and is suggested for use on a (regular) stud dog when a breeders' bitch they do not want him to mate comes into season. The chip Ru has inserted is a new thing which is more longer lasting. I believe it has only just become available and I chose that version because I do intend to stud Ru at a later date, to suitable bitches only. That said, if this new "wanderlust" becomes a "regular" thing with grubert then he will, regretfully, have the real snip.
