Hi All

I am organising an meeting on Wednesday 18th March (I know it is quite short notice) in Sheffield. The purpose is to gather together people with disabilities, carers, industry and researchers and think about possible technological solutions to everyday problems. The idea is that we will break into groups and identify problem areas and themes and possible solutions and then think in more detail about ways they could be developed. The idea is to try and get a good mix of stakeholders with the hope that this will lead to some good ideas.

More information:
Devices for Dignity (D4D) is a national resource aiming to:
· Identify and address areas of unmet clinical need, where innovations have the potential to enhance and empower the lives of people with long-term conditions.
· Develop successful, commercially viable, patient focused products through facilitating collaboration between patients and carers, academics, healthcare professionals and industry.

D4D promotes applying new technology solutions within the NHS, focusing especially on what are regarded by people outside the field as unglamorous and under-estimated conditions in three main strands:
· Assistive Technology
· Urinary Incontinence
· Renal Dialysis

Stakeholder Meeting

The Stakeholder Meeting is focussed on the Assistive Technology strand however it is likely that there will be issues identified which apply to the other two areas of D4D (Renal Dialysis and Urinary Incontinence).

Purpose
To gather together healthcare professionals, industry representatives, users of Assistive Technology, carers, academics and charity representatives who have an interest in Assistive Technology with the aim of identifying areas of unmet clinical need. A key aim is that bringing different Stakeholders together will give a unique opportunity to explore requirements for new and innovative Assistive Technology to improve and enhance dignity.

Participants will be involved in group discussions to identify unmet clinical need from their experience.

It would be great if anyone is interested in coming along.

It might be helpful if you explained what is meant by "Assistive Technology".

And also give the time and location of the meeting!! :hihi:

I must admit, Dozy does have a very good point! Not only is there precious little info there, but you don't even bother to tell us when and where you may be. The website is under construction, as can be seen here (http://www.devicesfordignity.org.uk/).

Only mildly worrying when you're asking people with disabilities to attend. Must do better.

What is the final aim of this project, Zoe?

Far too short notice. A pit though, if I could understand what it was all about , I may have been interested.

Thank you for your constructive comments and apologies for lack of clarity. I did want to put a weblink to the site for the actual meeting (rather than the overall D4D site) however as I had not posted five times I was not allowed to include this in my original post.

Aside from that the event is on 18th March (which I know is very short notice). It is being held at St Mary's Conference Centre in Sheffield and will run from 9.30am - 4.30pm. Lunch is included and there is no charge for the event.

Assistive Technology is a very broad field and covers equipment such as wheelchairs, communication aids, computer access equipment, eating and drinking aids etc.

The aim of this meeting is to gather together people who have an interest in these devices or the effectiveness of such devices, including end users, carers, industry, researchers in order to develop new ideas and improve existing ones.
