anyone went roller skating down the CLIFFE. in the early 50's?
I along with my two mates Mick and Tim,did mainly because we got in free as
Tim was" friendly" with Pauline the owners grandaughter. afterwards the
three of us would escort Pauline home. Not that we were gentlemen, but her mum had the pie shop in Staniforth rd. pie peas and hendersons MMM great

Yes - went to the one at the side of the church/graveyard - remember "Pop" hobson great on roller skates and had a motorbike - I could dance on the roller skates but am useless on ice skates - you made sure you weren't on the end when they did the wheel. this rink closed down and another opened further down at carbrook in the old methodist church - one of them had a sloping floor that those that couldn't skate very well went down to the floor below to practice - think you could get a drink down there as well. believe the first one re-opened again as a skating rink - it was an old cinema and then became a carpet place
