Wanganui waterfront appears to be part beach and part industrial remains.
What was once a bone-processing factory has been demolished and the rubble used to create a jetty/pier to protect one side of the harbour entrance.
The wooden pilings from the original pier have been left in place alongside the new(ish) wall.
As with all the beaches along this coast, the sand is black/grey and there is a heck of a lot of driftwood.
On the day these shots were taken the high winds were whipping the sand/pumice along at high speed, creating something of a sandblasting effect. Great for exfoliation.

Just a few pics from the visit.

some of these shots would look great with a long exposure and a b+w conversion. can you get on the beach early or late enough for low light?
