View Full Version : Photo editing question
I am by no means a photographer (sadly!!) so am asking for help from the experts:)
I have a digital image taken on holiday with a fairly basic camera, normally the images are very good quality if viewed on a PC full screen. Something seems to have gone wrong with this one though, it is a picture of my partner and myself (fairly close-up) and while he looks great (in a photographic sense as well as the other:P) I look all blurry, I think what happened is I moved while he stood still when the photo was taken.
I really like this photo and would like to know if this blurriness could be remedied, so that I could at least use it as a desktop image, or even print out.
I have no experience with software etc and it looks a bit more complex than your average edit as only part of the pic (one person) is blurred; of course (and I hope!) some photo whizzes could tell me that this is a simple problem to solve!
Advice much appreciated.

E-lectrican 09-03-2009, 22:13 just take another photo a lot less hassle
just take another photo a lot less hassle
I woud if I could - well I can but I'll have to wait til next New Year's Eve and go to the same venue, it's hard to recreate a special moment like this surely:)
Thanks for the suggestion..however I hope I can get some more, shall we say, proactive responses;)
motion blur cant be corrected. as long as your partner is in focus on the image you will always look out of focus.
Posting an image would help to tell if its a write off or not.
That's a shame! I'll have to make sure I control myself better in any future pics LOL!
I could try and post it or PM you?
knowing how this forum works, I'm sure someone will come and say something to the contrary, but as far as I'm aware there is no way of correcting blurriness in photos. You could, however, find a decent photo of yourself under the same lighting conditions and superimpose it into the shot. Its quite complicated to get right and 99 times out of 100 its not even possible to do it convincingly. Might be worth posting the shot though....
Might be possible to do some selective sharpening?
JezzyJJ (I think that's the right username! ) is a dab hand with Photoshop, hopefully he'll spot this thread.
Pic temporarily on photobucket just to see if anyone could help with the blur:)
Pic now removed
meehailam 10-03-2009, 21:51 You may want to try this software. Look promising, but don't expect wonder if the photo is too blurry. There will always be some downside...perhaps more noise, etc. Try it out.

thank you meehailam, I will have a look!
my opinion is that it isn't recoverable there is quite a bit of movement in that shot. however if it has sentimental value, its worth keeping

It definitely has sentimental value, and it is one of the few we have of New Year's Eve. So I'll be keeping it blurry or not!
I must say thank you to the forummer who kindly edited the photo so that it is (only slightly, but still a great job) somewhat better. If anyone else wants to have a go, they're more than welcome:)
Thanks for your responses everyone.
E-lectrican 11-03-2009, 07:32 heres a suggestion then a more "proactive" one.............dress up the same as in the photo,,,then pose in the same position..take another photo...from new photo edit your yourself then super impose it over the original.........thats the best i can cum up with.your lucky because where the two of you infuse in the original its all black so shouldnt be hard and i dont think will look to bad
Could do that of course - or just wait until next New Year's Eve, we may end up going to the same place as it was such a good night this year - and take another photo:-) I'll try not to move next time!
quick sharpening attempt, not great but does improve the pic a little bit... the more sharpening you try to introduce the more artefacts you get :(

sazabi2001 11-03-2009, 14:59 Fixed a little bit with Photoshop. I selected the face out, copied it, and then use USM shappness...and redrawed a little bit with pen tools.
take a look.

Great stuff thank you!
So nice to have such a lot of responses.
I can see where you're coming from with 'artefacts'...it looks slightly pixellated after a while doesn't it.
mattsando 13-03-2009, 08:13 Motion blur is hard to get rid of.
You could try softening it, giving it a glow?
I think what most people did who attempted to correct the photo was to soften it, and make the focus more 'uniform' so it's not so obvious that one person is 'blurred'. It is clearly easier to do than actually correct the blur..but I'm very impressed with the results!:)
