Ive done a complete U-turn on my thoughts of Wybourn. Ive been living in the Wybourn for a while now, and me being from Brum didnt really know much about it when I moved up there. And all the things people have said about it didnt seem to be as bad as people made out, and I for one have defended Wybourn for a long time but.........

The other day my 2 year old son was playing in the back garden as he does. I went in the house to gt something, and I heard my girlfriend shouting me. Why was she shouting me I hear you ask...

Wel there was a flamin used syringe just lying there in MY back garden. Now im no crack head, and it certainly wasnt mine, and im far from happy about that fact that my son was playing in the garden and could have easily picked it up. I can only presume that my neighbours must be drug heads, they seemed so nice aswell. Well it might not have been them, but i have no problem in placing the blame on them. Im not thinking rationally when it comes to my sons well being. If he had of touched it I would not have been responsible for my actions.

Just this one incident in all this time of me being in Wybourn has made up my mind that I no longer want to stay round there.

:(

This happend to me a few years ago, child playing in back garden/yard, whilst druggys in upstairs flat next door merrilly threw thier blood stained wipes and needles from the window.
Luckily for us he didnt go near them.
Get your self moved, we did you just cant put a price on the safty of your children.

Hi Spryo2000,

I work on the edge of the Wybourn and we have had quite a bit of this type of thing. I've called environmental health to take away syringes, cooked up on foil and used noddys on numerous occassions. Sorry to hear some smackhead's chucked it in your garden especially as you've kids. They just don't give a s**t about anyone or anything except the next hit.

Lived on the edge of Wybourn Estate in the 60's and 70's, even then it had a reputation, perhaps not for drugs but certainly for low life.
Not saying it's like that now but I've always been surprised when people have defended it.

Would readily admit to being wrong but thought it was worse then Manor Estate.

Well im definitely looking for a move from here. The only problem is finding somewhere. Relistically I can probably only afford about £300 a week in rent, maybe £400, as im a uni student and have only got a part time job. Im in my final year now, so it may be a case of having to wait one more year til ive finished uni unless I try and put more hours in at work, which isnt something I really want to do going into my final year of uni, but may have to.

I think the majority on Wybourn are fine. However liek all areas, Wybourn has it'd percentage of idiots. Although unfortunately the percebtage is higher on this estate.

I may be factually wrong on this but from other people who live on the estate, drugs are rife

Sorry to hear about your fright spyro, logic goes completely out of the window when it comes to the safety of your kids and I would react exactly as you are doing. I would sooner live in a house that is a complete ****hole but in a nice area than in a palace somewhere that is a threat to me and my childrens safety.

All the very best in your endevours to find another home.

I'm guessing spyro meant per month rather than per week :P

i lived on the wybourn about 5 years ago on saunders road. there was house up the road that were druggies they just chucked their syringes out of their windows and door, one of their kids picked one up and came down the street sayin oo look what ive got, needless to say my kids were not allowed out of our garden again.
but other than that i had no probs with the whybourn at all. Hubby comes off there and his mam n dad still live on manor oaks road. we moved off and bought a house at halfway, a really posh little dead end road. druggies were still seen with their needles bang opposite on the bit of waste land. it doesnt matter where you are you will get them.
if you are otherwise happy where you live why not just try and get them evicted first save you the hassle of moving.
i live on the manor now and have had no problems at all.

best of luck in what ever you decide to do tho

It's a really stupid thing to do, but I bet used syringes get tossed over garden walls just about everywhere, - even Fulwood and Eccy Road Sarf :D

Thought they'd moved everyone off the Wybourn up here to Stannington :(

That's why the estates are full of chavs..

And no, I have never lived on Wybourn, and I am NOT a chav.

I lived on the Wybourn for 10 years and never had any problems, when I lived with my parents. Boundary Road. My sister lives on Manor Oaks Close, did live on Maltravers Cresent but moved whent hings got bad as people are finding now. Remember not long ago a guy coming on saying he'd had nothing but trouble on there when his young daughter died :(
