For those of you who don't know, I've wanted a dog for 14 years and we've finally sat down together and decided that we're in a position to have one.

We've been approved by the breeder and she's been sending us piccies! Hopefully, they're below!
They are in the order they were sent to me, the last one being the one they sent today (Sunday) and the one that greeted me on my return from Brighton!

So you got yourself a doggie? Well done.

I know a lot of dog owners, but I have never come across someone who looked into and researched the practicalities of it as much as you.

That tiny puppy has a lot of love coming it's way.

Hope you are both very happy together... you deserve it!

Aw, thankyou Deavon!

At least I know I'm doing the right thing when I get responses like that!

I'm mucho looking forward to our time together. I have been out and bought some sensible (albeit pink) walking boots so that I can walk for longer too!

Look out for us as we will be working very hard on obedience together and if we can master the simple things, we are starting heelwork to music when she's ready!

My mum now thinks that Pebbles is 'her baby' :suspect:
I will have to do what I can to keep hold of her! :hihi:

What a gorgeous little pup and so photogenic.
Pink walking boots huh?
I just hope you're not thinking of a pink doggie coat so you'll match.
Most of the young dalmatians I've known have been rather 'giddy' and so concentrate on the basic commands the sit, come and walk at heel are the first one's to teach, offering paw, playing dead and speaking can then be worked on.

Thanks, ooh, and look out for us along Glossop road, I live in Crookesmoor and my sister goes to school at King Teds.

Any mornings/afternoons when I'm off at the time my sister is walking there/back, I'll be diverting our walk down there so keep a look out for two lasses, one a goth, the other in pink boots with a dalmatian on the end of a lead! lol

Hey thanks Wallbuilder, people think dalmatians are terrors to train, but actually they're extremely clever and get bored with things quickly once they know them, but I will be starting on the simple things, and I'll have her from 8 weeks so we'll get a good grounding!

She will definitely not have a pink coat! But I have found a rather nice, pink dimante collar and lead set! lol

I saw a program a few years ago about the making of 101 Dalmatians as it was suggested as being fun to watch by a Dalmatian owner that I knew. Lots and lots of [in some cases] very giddy puppies and then the well behaved adult dogs who looked at the pups in what I thought was a very condescending manner.
The main handler and trainer did say though that they did pick up things very rapidly but would also get distracted eqally quickly.
If your sister is a goth is she going to be prepared to walk with some-one in pink boots?

lol yes, I once walked a working coach dalmatian, he was on the end of a very long rope and i had to try and make sure he didn't get under the wheels of the cart being pulled by a giant shire. Not an easy job by any stretch of the imagination.
Then the little sod found a rabbit that had been run over and decided it was more interesting than us. I had all these little kids squealing.
It's a dog for goodness sake! He's going to pick up a dead rabbit if he sees it!

As for the pink boots, she walked around with me today! She doesn't really have a choice! And I don't make a big deal out of the fact that she's a goth so she's happy enough to walk along with me! lol

We have quite a good understanding of eachother when you think about it!

*turns to gooey mush*

What a lovely puppy!!!!

Watch out for the 'teething' which no matter what you give them to chew it ends up the furnature :o ;)

Congrats on your new addition :) xxxx

hehe, thanks kblade, yes I know, we're going to try very hard to get her into eating her own things, but I know this doesn't work as Smudge (my puss) has dozens of toys and always plays with something of mine, we bought scratching posts, but they were left untouched whilst the wallpaper is now non existent! So yes, we're looking forward to it...

I've had some fairly good results with a spray called I think 'Bite Back' it tastes I have been told like a really horrible bitter apple sort of. Spray it on things and little puppy thinks, YUKK and doesn't chew that particular item.
WARNING!!! Do not handle the sprayed objects and then try to eat a bag of crisps you'll notice a rather peculiar taste.
One dog I looked after hated the taste but soon learnt he could munch the edge of my rug and then rush to his water bowl and get rid of the taste in his mouth, imagine his horror when I spotted this and removed his water bowl, he lay in the kitchen gazing at the empty space and licking his lips for ages until I took pity on him but he learnt a valuable lesson, namely STOP chewing my rug.

Haha Wallbuilder!

That's great! I'll have a look for it, it may do some good!

I once rubbed parsley all over the wallpaper (turning it green by mistake) as cats are supposed to hate it and stay away but it still got ripped to bits! But as you've recomended it, I'll try it! lol thanks!

Awwww Lotti you have a dally! When i was a little girl i had a BIG obsession with dalmations and always wanted one, but we had Meg our faithful mutt. When she died in 2001 i thought i might be in with a chance but Dad decided that our lifes without a doggy wasnt very nice so he got mum a Black Labrador which she always wanted. Shes a beautiful dog and i adore her but one day i will have my dalmation :P.

Molly (our lab) caused a LOT of damage to our house (eating cupboard doors, digital cameras, tables, chairs, flowers, baskets, mobile phones- everything you could think of she ate!)

She will be four this year and if you look in our utility room (where she and our other dog Bo sleeps) you can see all the skirting boards and cupboard doors are chewed to pieces! It still happens way past 3 years (which is when people say they stop chewing)

I think my top tips for puppies would be having them sleep somehwere in a room where damage isnt going to be the end of the world, like when Molly was a puppy she slept in our kitchen/diner and that was a BIG mistake! Also train them from the moment you get them, Mollys training started the moment we got her when she sat in the boot for the car ride home, shes never attempted to sit anywhere else now!

Also our breeder told us that if the puppy is doing something its not suppose to be, give it a gentle tug by the back of its neck as this is what their mums would do if wild and it doesnt hurt them just teaches them not to do it. It works wonders with both our dogs.

Enjoy your gorgeous pup and make every minute last because before you know it the pup will be a big strapping dog and you will be wondering where time went!

Congratulations to you Lotti  read your many doggie threads with interest. We had a doggie when I was a kid and I loved him so much.

When does Pebbles come home to you? Don't make yourself sick with excitement ! Or your mum will be cross. Keep us updated won't you?

P.S. PINK walking boots - not a chance you'll be missed then!

lol Sam,

yes, I have posted many many posts about doggies.
She comes home between the 31st July and the 5th august. Not sure yet as we don't know how long I'll be in hospital for after my op, we're hoping we can be back to pick her up on the 31st.

Franc, I have been obsessed with dallies since I was old enough to know what they are!

I've wanted one for 14 years, and I have been researching them for 7 years now!
The whole chewing thing is something that concerns us a little, as she'll be in the kitchen/diner!
But that will only be at bed time, for the first few days she'll be in my room, well, my sister's room and I'll stay in there (my room's up a ladder) people say not to, but it actually helps them pine less. Then when she starts sleeping through better she'll be moved down to the kitchen (child gate on stairs!)

She'll be 8 weeks when we get her, then I'll be home all day every day until she's about 14 weeks, then there'll normally be somebody in all the time, just different people (we're all in at different times in our house) and for the couple of hours that she may be left alone for, she'll be outside in the garden with 6ft brick walls and a kennel for shelter as well as all her favourite things, so she shouldn't be left to be too bored in the kitchen!

You see, I have it all planned out!

The cutest thing is, I've got a little hatchback and I'm taking the parcel shelf out so that she can sit in the boot and look over! When the window's open, the cool breeze gets to the back of the car (ie. boot) than it does the rest of the car and she won't be sat under the hot windscreen.

Remeber, a dog is for life, not just for breakfast :D

Looks a cool dog, but alas, i have enough looking after one cat that seems to think everything is edible.

Just dont let it wee on laminate flooring, makes a nice mess if its not sealed properly. I had to replace a room full of laminate flooring at my cousins, due to her dog peeing on it, made a right mess.
