Anything less than a win for the Blades would be considered not good enough.. We need to get some more points on the board and these are the games we need to be winning.. Blackpool will make it hard for us and will probably put a lot of men behind the ball, although if we play to our potential we should come out comfortable winners..

Team i reckon should play:
Kenny
Naughton Morgan Killa Naysmith
Cotts O'Toole Hendrie Halford
Henderson Beattie

Team that i reckon will play:
Kenny
Naughton Morgan Killa Naysmith
Cotts Monty Quinn Halford
Henderson Webber

You didn't say that before the game Benny boy, so don't be too disappointed.
A point at Preston is a good point, even though we played well enough to have got thirteen points!
You know what Wednesday are like. I don't think anybody gave us much of a chance tonight, but we outplayed 'em, and thrashed 'em 1-1.

that bad is it ?

No its not- you can't really take his opinion seriously as he doesn't even go to the games.

I think at times last night we played some of the best football this season with halford, monty, cottrill and henderson all linking up wonderfully and leaving the blackpool defence standing!!!

BUT- our gameplan was quickly figured out and we surrendered the centre of midfield FAR too easily- blackwells reluctance to bring off ANY central midfielder during the game has to be called into question as in the last 20-25 minutes then o'toole would have done much more than quinn/monty who were obviously suffering from the early pace.

ward looked very dangerous and has some amazing shots on goal- only the keeper agility kept him scoring a couple of crackers!!!

Still- its 2 points dropped but we were lucky that all the other teams around us falthered too so its as you were at the top.

MR BENN
11-03-2009, 09:09
your right -you got away with dropping the points as all the others also slipped up .

Oh i agree, im not really looking above to be honest as i don't think we are strong enough to mount a serious bid for automatic promotion but im just looking to pick up enough points to get into the playoffs so we can relax a little!

Agent Gypo

Abject performance from the Blades. I was completely puzzled by the comments on Praise or Grumble that "the first half was United's best home performance this season". It wasn't. A very flat 4-4-2 with few ideas and little heart.

Poor defending throughout, Blackpool threatened on the break time and time again, a goal was inevitable at some stage. At 1-2 I didn't see us coming back into the game and they had plenty of chances to make it 1-3 which would have been game over at that stage. Our back four were utterly calamitous on several occasions.

The attacking play was poor, endless long balls and running into channels with nowhere to go. Danny Webber had a shocker, his finishing was comical and it was a relief when his number came up on the officials board. He had two chances in front of goal that were so easy to finish, a three-legged dog could have walked it in. Even my girlfriend recognised he was awful, and she's never been to a football match before.

What makes drawing 2-2 to Blackpool at home worse is, all the other results went in our favour. If we have serious promotion ambitions, this was the perfect game to make ground on the automatic slots. However, on this performance, I wouldn't fancy our chances against any of the teams currently in the play-off positions.

I'm not looking forward to the Derby game at all. We all know who's going to score. How we could do with Hulse now...

there are stiil a lot of teams within as few points of the play off spots and i think its going to go down to the wire this season

Robbie Loving

People see this as two points dropped... I see their point. However watching the game i'd say it was one point gained.

We managed to get a draw and you certainly wouldn't have taken anything away from Blackpool had they won, as Agent Gypo says, they had numerous occasions to kill the game off.

Morgan was shocking for thei first goal, so after that he tried to nake up for it and kept making more mistakes.

Killa for some reason tried playing it out on their first goal even though there was option available to him.

Ward looked dangerous when he came on, however he never looked like getting their keeper to make saves you'd expect him to make. The penalty for me was dubious, but as it was a penalty the keeper had to go.

The ref did however bottle a second pen a few minutes later when the keeper brought the awful Quinny down.

For me though, Blackwell needs to take a lot of responsibility. For some reason he keeps bringing Beattie on to the left wing, which he does not suit one bit. Also with around 25 mins left it was clear Quinn needed bringing off and replacing with O'toole. However the genius that is Blackwell used his final sub in INJURY time and brought on the little Lupoli even though we were playing long ball.

For me, if you bring ona sub in injury time then you are going for the draw.

We have to play

Derby - H
Cardiff - A
Ipswich- H
Dingles- H
Reading- A
Forest - H
Burnley- A
Swansea - H
Palace- A

So thats at least 4 although i expect palace to we too far away by the last game to be in contention.

I agree. I'm a season ticket holder and thanks to that guy I probably won't be next season as my Dad refuses to pay out in hard times while that idiot is in charge. Don't fancy going on my own.

He didn't come on the radio last night but when he does his comments show that he is just absolutely clueless! He'll always say things like "we bossed the midfield". What a joke. Any manager that continues with Quinn and Monty in midfield obviously hasn't got a clue. Monty has never been good enough and Quinn gets worse the more he plays next to Monty. They did nothing last night but still he refuses to change it.

He plays players out of position, makes subs in injury time, it's taken him this long to let Cotterill have a run in the team. When things are going wrong he has no idea how to change things. He doesn't have much of a plan A, let alone a plan B!

We have good players and we are capable of beating any team in this division but we rarely play to our potential under Blackwell.

Robbie Loving

we draw against QPR on saturday and KB went out

I will show you the difference Scott.

We play a promotion chasin team (even if they have gone off the boil a bit) and get a point at their ground. Manager comes out to talk.

We play a relegation threatened team, manage to get a point (although had we lost we couldn't complain) and he sends out his assistant.

Blackwell had questions to answer on tuesday, he knew this.

The first one being... why use a sub in injury time?

Second, why is Beattie continually used on the left wing? Surely Lupoli who has played there before would be more effective. Or even bringing O'Toole in to the middle and pushing Quinn out wide.

Third, why isn't O'Toole playing?

Fourth... why claim that players you bring in will only be better than we already have and then have 4 loan signings sat on the bench?

scottf
12-03-2009, 11:07
I agree with all 4 questions robbie- it seems like common sense to me all 4 of them!!!

I remember an interview earleir this season where he said that he wouldn't allow loan signings to upset the core of the side- well i think he might need to start over the next couple of games.

I think there will be trouble if we don't win on saturday.

Robbie Loving
12-03-2009, 11:24
I remember an interview earleir this season where he said that he wouldn't allow loan signings to upset the core of the side.

The problem with that though is that we have had so many loan signings this season.

We have had Howard, Halford, Dyer, Bromby, Lupoli, Beattie, O'Toole and Spring that I can think of off the top of my head.

Out of them it is only Halford who has been used on a regular basis.

If you were a manager with a player of some potential, would you loan us him with the track record we have? I certainly wouldn't.

it's like we're collecting players for the sake of it. If they're not good enough to challenge for a place, don't bring them in.

You look at other loan signings... we missed a big one in Dave Kitson. We should have made that as part of the Beattie deal.

He sends Sam Ellis out 9 times out of ten.
Good really, 'cause he's not very good in front of the cameras himself, he says some stupid things, and I think he's trying to convince himself more than anything else.
It's not a Wednesdayite dig at United, I really don't think Blackwell has a clue.

12-03-2009, 20:41
It's just damage limitation - rather than go on himself and get drawn into a slanging match with Radio Sheff and looking daft, he lets Ellis take the flak, he takes a bit of it from the fans for not turning up, but then he can get on with the job without having said something stupid he'd later regret...
