Can anyone tell me what it's like at the Grosvener Casino on Queens Road? What about any other casinos in or around Sheffield?

Grosvenor is OK but I prefer Napoleons on Eccy Road.
Much nicer inside and the bar upstairs is cool.

There's also a Naps down Hillsborough byt have never been there.

Trust me, Nap's on Eccy road is THE best!

Thanks DB/Mikey.

I didn't know there was one on Eccy Road. Closer to me as well. I think I'll have to get myself down there and show them there's a blackjack master in town!!

I think If you want to go you have to apply for membership at least 24 hours beforehand.
I believe you can't just turn up when you fancy it.

Quite true Nomme (only just realised you'vge streamlined your User ID).

Go down the day before you want to go in and get your membership card. Take a passport/drivers licence and bill with you for proof of ID.

You're right. Have already found their website (http://www.casinocity.com/link/index.cfm?version=rw&Id=143000&Op=web) and have filled in and printed their application form. Will send it off today!

I'm a member of both Napolians and Bonaparts. Out of the 2 I'd say that Napolians is the better of those 2.

And how much do you chaps tend to spend in there, or do you just go for the ambience?

I read in todays Star that the plans have resurfaced for Meadowhall to grow and gain an entertainment complex including a 'Las Vegas Style' casino. I can't see a Mandalay Bay-esque casino really fitting in with Wincobank on one side, the M1 and 'Tinsley Towers' on the other and the fading remnants of a once great steel industry completing the backdrop.

Not really, the atmosphere is nothing special. I just go there for a change now and again. It's an option of somewhere to go no matter what time it is.

I'm not really a gambler so don't spend much.

Can I ask how people feel now that Sheffield is very unlikely to get a Super-Casino in the Don Valley.

Cheers, Rich

Very disappointed. It was never going to happen it was so obvious.

As soon as the plans were revealed out came the anti-gambling brigade (or the anti-something brigade - depends on the hot subject is) objecting that as a community we would all be ruined.

I personally would have enjoyed the chance to visit a Super-Casino.

I'll advise the 3 doormen I know there of this statement.
I think it's a bit unfair and generalising don't you :loopy:

Not generalising at all. Inform them if that makes your day. I couldn't give a toss.

It's ok...already informed and to be fair the comment is very generalised.

Shame you're not too bright to realise!

Erm... still you I think you'll find :D

The difference you'll find is an observation based on your generalisation which you failed to even comprehend was a generalisation.

My comment was in comment to one person and not a general comment about 2 or more people.

Gerneralizing
To form general notions or conclusions.

You formed a conclusion (or notion if you will) about all the doorstaff of napoleons (eccy road). However I highly doubt that you've had issues with ALL of the door staff in Naps.
Therefore you issued a generalisation comment.

Unless you have had issues with ALL of the doorstaff at Naps on eccy road which then would lead me to the conclusion that you're probably a trouble causer!

Cheers, youwhatref.

Anyone feel it's a good job the casino has been given the elbow?

I'd have liked to have seen this Super Casino being built... but what's the point worrying about it now when it's clearly not going to happen?

Napoleons and Bonaparts are both very nice and have a good atmosphere. Not been to Grosevnor though, but the food in the casinos is fantastic and really good value too. Plus if you book you have the table for the night and you're not rushed off.

Naps on Eccy Road also has a license until 2.00 which is well handy if you fancy some beers after the pubs has shut...

You've gone to an awful lot of trouble here DaBouncer!

Let's throw some light on the situation (during which I'll have to agree that you'll come out of this better than I do:suspect: ).

My 'disagreements' with the doormen at Naps actually goes back around - wait - eight or nine years. They took offence with me because I ran across the road from a taxi 'in a loud manner'.

All I was doing was trying to catch up with my friends one wet, miserable Tuesday night. No queues or anything, IMO they just decided they'd single me out.

I'm not a trouble maker, but like most others, I'd admit I can get loud after a skin full. They ****** me off, so I walked away (see, a trouble maker would make something of it. Not me, I simply went home).

So yeh, I generalise about some doormen who stood the door ar Naps 8, 9 years since.

Maybe I'm still envious I didn't have the opportunity to empty my pockets there more frequently?

I was about to say something along the lines of ''you have very low expectations if you think that Naps is the best, never mind cool"

Then I saw that you wrote it 2 years ago! :D

What a dump it's become. An utter, utter dump.
