I was cutting Tilly the dogs nails yesterday and was doing the back ones and she moved just as i cut. Even though i had the guard on she has lost a chunk of nail :( i feel awful it has made it bleed and bleed and bleed.

I bandaged it up so she would leave it alone and she seems no worse for it and is using the foot fine. I changed the bandage this morning and the end of the quick (sp?) is exposed so i have rebandged to protect it and to stop her licking it. Should i do anything else?? I used antiseptic cream last night and it looks very clean and healthy. How long should i leave it covered? as she is a licker when something is sore.

I love vetwrap though and would recommend to anyone to have a stash in an emergency along with a sterile pad and bandage and to go underneath. I don't know what i would have done with it otherwise.

Thanks guys

Hi

my bulldog has ripped a little bit off her back nail think she caught it in the garden. I have done similar to you, but have also bathed it in a salt solution to make sure it clean, and heals.

toes bleed like nothing on earth if you inadvertently clip one :(

there is a powder you can get which encourages blood clotting. You can probably get it in most good pet shops, or ask a dog groomers or vet

We now have some we've never yet used after a similar incident

She is fine and i am pleased i did not let her do the walk though i think it would have been just a bit much for her little foot and old bones bless her.
