My dog has been rushed to the vets tonight after his spine has gone crooked, he has thrown up a lot, and he has suddenly developed shallow, quick breaths. The doctor has told us it might be pancrenitus, and he also said the tests are showing signs of an infection, but they may xray him in the morning has he not got better. He had a drip inserted tonight but that hasn't helped him, and basically as you can tell I am worried sick being up at 4:15am.

What is dog pancrinitus? How is it treated?

He has only had symptoms for 24 hours and he went to the vets straight away (after about 12 hours) and they have kept him in overnight. I am terrified, and really scared I might lose him. I'm allergic to him but I don't know what I would do without him.

Does anyone have a pet suffering from the same condition? Has anyone been in the same situation? I really don't know what to do with myself and I obviously can't sleep.

Sorry if this is a bit rambled, like I have said previously, I really don't know what to do with myself right now.

Thanks Ads, got a call from the Vet this morning, they're keeping him in over the weekend. Although he's still very very poorly his breathing has appeared to calm down overnight and he's also a bit steadier on his feet.

Hi tess so sorry that your dog is poorly and hope he picks up over the weekend, its hard to explain pancreatitis but ive found this link that will give you an idea of what may be happening, it is, a very serious problem but it can be treated well if its caught in time. its also very common in humans too. annax

Some more information here - http://www.horsestreetvets.co.uk/pet-info-page.php?Title=Canine+Acute+Pancreatitis

The best bit is 'a generally good recovery rate' although you will likely have to be very careful diet wise to prevent a reoccurrence.

Good luck Tess!
