Hi,
Does anyone have experience of digital tv reception in the upper walkley/crookes area?
Can you get it without a roof aerial? (I only have a small tv aerial on top of my tv)
Cheers,
N
Try www.freeview.co.uk or call 08708 809980, to find out if your area is covered:
Not really much use, everywhere's covered, it's just a case of having the right equipment. ;)
You might be lucky and be able to pick up Freeview tv with a set top aerial if it's a decent one sat in a window with a decent amp and decent short cables.
Is there a reason why you can't have an outdoor aerial, or are you just trying to do this upgrade on the cheap?

my flat doesnt have one. The landlord would have to have cabling installed from the aerial to the lounge etc so I cant really expect him to pay for that.
Surely your flat must have an outdoors somewhere?
I've fitted aerials on flats before, paid for by the tenant. It doesn't have to go on the roof, it can be mounted externally on a wall.
You may be able to get away with the set top aerial with an amplifier, perhaps some trials are in order. If you want freeview then you can get the box and try it with what you've got, if it doesn't work have a look at getting an external aerial.

We have a tall house in the area you mentioned (top end of Commonside/bottom of School Road) with an aerial on the roof. We tried a Freeview box for a day, reception was OK on three or four channels, intermittent on one more and non-existent on the rest. I didn't want to shell out for an aerial booster, and had only bought the box to show Euro 2004 through our projector onto a big screen, then I realised I could do the same thing by plugging the aerial into the video recorder and the video into the projector, so I took the box back to the shop and got my money back.
No real need for a booster in most cases, generally it's either a knackered aerial and\or dodgy cheap cabling. Some boxes are better than others at pulling in weak muxes too.

well in the end I bought a box. I can get reception after using an extension cable to put the aerial upstairs. But just like analogue you have to fiddle with it to get good recepetion for different channels :( (which is not so easy when the aerial is upstairs and the tv isnt!)
