Unfortunately yet another story of a dog being attacked due to irresponsible dog owners.

On Wednesday my dog (a CKC Spaniel) was attacked by a bull terrier type dog dark grey with white round it's front and nose and called Sally. At the time my dog, who is timid and certainaly was not aggresive, was walking away when this dog just pounced on his neck. My Dad shouted at the owner to pull him off but she pathetically said she couldn't. My Dad then had to lie on the floor hitting the dog in it's face until it eventually let my dog free.

Luckily the injuries are not too severe but he has been left with two nasty wounds on the back of his neck - my dad now has a swollen wrist and puncture wounds to his hand. It could have been a lot worse.

The woman admitted that she could not control her dog but she still lets it off the lead. My dog was, and always is, on a lead.

On speaking to other users of the Bole Hills today this dog also attacked another small dog on Sunday. I have also spoken to the dog warden who belives that, from my description, the same dog has attacked before.

So to my knowledge this dog has attacked on at least three occassions and due to the women not having the brains to keep it on a lead (she admitted she is unable to control the dog) who knows how many other dogs, or possibly children, may be attacked in the future.

Anyway this is just to warn all users of the Bole Hills to watch out for this woman and her uncontrollable dog.

Gosh... I usually walk regularly on the Bolehills and have never even met the dog matching your description!

What time was this? I like to take one of mine up there for socialisation but if she was attacked up there (again) it would only make her ten times worse!

Hi pupster, hope your cavvie is ok. It must have been aweful for him and also your poor dad. The dog who attacked yours obviously needs to be muzzled and kept on a lead. Let's hope the owner is responsible in future so no one else has to go through what your little man has been through.

Really sorry to hear about you dog. It's unbelievable how irresponsible some people are. Surely the owner is legally liable for the damage her dog has done to yours and your dad!!

Hope your dog and Dad is ok. Mine is aggro and once we found out other dogs where a no go (he's second hand ) he was muzzled and is kept on lead at all times. Luckily for us he never was off lead when he attacked the other dogs and they did run at us full pelt, though I know that is no excuse.

He has not been off lead for months now (apart from in a training class, which he is fab in) as he cannot be trusted but we are getting there. He has a massive long training lead for when we are in the middle of nowhere so he can have a run in the fields but he is still muzzled as if a dog came into view he would try it on. Even if we get him sorted (and there is some good signs at the moment) and he can behave around other dogs he will always wear the muzzle as I think he will always have that side to him. The owner must feel dreadful but unless they do something about it and take control it's always going to be the same and get them into trouble. It's either that or have the dog PTS.

I think it would help if other dog walkers where a little more understanding to aggro dogs that are kept under control, the amount of dirty looks I get for having a muzzled dog is sad, as though I've done something to make him that way and I'm a bad person. Then again some people are great with us, generally tends to be the ones that have been there and done it before with thier own dogs in the past :)

There really should be harsh treatment of people who can not control there dog's an allow this to happen maybe that would make people think. glad to see your dog survived this attack.

This is such a sad story that people are so irresponsible, we have recently got a dog from the pound and she is a cross with staffy in her somewhere olong the line. What makes me sad is this just gives a bad name to bull terrior cross dogs.

I wish there was a control on this so action could be taken it is so unfair that a few people let down the dog population. You wouldn't stand by on a park and let your child tear into another child and just say 'there's nothing I can do about it' so whats the difference?

I hope your dog and Dad recover and it doesn't put you off going out and enjoying a walk with your dog.

I cant believe someone would let there dog do this. Then stand by and let someone else try to stop it. Why has this women got a dog she cant control in the first place. And to be so stupid as to let it off the lead when she knows it goes for other dogs.
Really hope your dog is ok and your dad. He did a good thing helping your dog and probably saved it from worse injuries. x

She is wrong it is her fault not her dogs. Maybe she ought to watch the dog whisperer and see that violent dogs can be controlled with the right behaviour from us humans.
She ought to be reported to the Police before something worse happens.

Thank you for your posts. Monty is Ok considering what he has been through he has been back on the Bole Hills and doesn't seem traumatised. I think my dad was more shook up as he just keeps thinking what could have happened.

It is just so annoying that people like this are still allowed to keep dogs - when I spoke to the council they can't do anything until the dog attacks a human :loopy: and when it does unfortunately the dog will be put down for something which is not her fault.

The attack happened at about 4pm on Wednesday not sure what time the attack was on Sunday. My Dad hasn't seen the dog before - her owner is a woman in about her 30's small with dark hair the dog was wearing a studded coller.

The vet has said that once a dog attacks they will continue to do so we are being very careful now when we take him out.

This is so awful to hear, my auntie lives near there and i take my Chihuahua up to see her but i wont be taking her onto the bole hills. I feel so sorry for your dog and also for the one who attacked it, i do believe that any dog with the right upbringing and discipline can be well natured and gentle. This woman however hasnt done any of this, if the dog attacks a child it will be put down and i dont really believe that its the dogs fault, its its owners and should be on a lead and have a muzzle.
I do hope your dog is ok!!

You'd be better off marching your dad to the police station and making a proper complaint

a dog doesn't actually have to bite to be ordered to be destroyed either - it merely has to be 'dangerously out of control in a public place', and that can constitute only behaviour which conveys to a person that they are in danger - never mind the injuries your dad has sustained

I hope he's okay, and your dog doesn't have too many 'issues' as a knock on from this :(
