View Full Version : How do you make pizza
MARY POPPINS 06-03-2009, 16:42 I decided I would like to try to make a pizza, thougfht for a first try I wouldn't be too adventurous, so I;ve bought some pizzabase mix, can I make it and cook it later, or do you have to do the pastry and add the topping and cook it straight away, on the packet it tells you how to make it up, then says leave in warm place for fifteen minutes until well risen, then add topping and bake for 15-20 minutes
I thought I could just make the base and then top it later, are the bases on the ones you have made up in the super markets ready cooked.
Think I should have asked Asda to sell me a base.
we make pizza`s a lot with the kids, they love it!!
We usually use the ready made bases, cover with passata then top with mozzerella and whatever goodies they want.
Going to get some of that pizza base mix though, wher`d you get it from?
I use the ready made baese too. I have made my own before but it's much easier to cheat a little. I drizzle a little olive oil and garlic over it then add a tomato base, either passat or a mild cheap salsa sauce is nice if you like a spicy pizza. I just shove anything on that I fancy then use mozarella to finish it off, shove it in the oven for 10-15 mins and it's done. Really quick and easy.

Thankyou thats answered another question I wondered what to put on the bottom thought it was tomato puree.
Thankyou lindix, I bought the mix from Morrisons this afternoon, but think I will get a ready made base, do they sell them in asda or morrisons I go to both
All supermarkets sell the ready made bases I have bought them from morrisons before and am pretty sure asda will do them(if they arn`t with the pizza`s they may be near the pasta:thumbsup:
The passata comes in jars or cartons, we usually have the one which contains basil, tastier for a pizza base. Put a good splodge in the middle then smear outwards.
Its much easier to use the ready grated mozzerella, trying to grate those balls of the stuff is a right nightmare.
God I sound like a right pizza freak don`t I?:hihi:
Enjoy!!
Make a Pizza? Simple, go on www.pizzahut.co.uk, tell them what you want, and they deliver it! :D
Oh er, yeh.. Never mind..
*gets coat*
Alastair 06-03-2009, 22:11 It's easy to make pizza dough, you only need flour, water and yeast (and a recipe off the internet), so it's dirt cheap. Just zizz it in the food processor, let it rise and roll out your bases.
Kids love creating their own pizzas by adding the toppings, then bake quickly
Mary Poppins, the diy bases are so much nicer than the pre-prepared ones. Personally I don't think I'd make it up until I wanted to use it - I suspect it will stick to your tray if you leave it for a while before cooking. it. Why don't you crush some garlic and losen the tomato puree with olive oil .. enjoy.

Most certainly! You could also add some herbs to the base, like basil or oregano. I usually put a slosh of olive oil into the mix too.

I do that as well. I also add a bit of crushed garlic to the base

Thankyou I was wondering if I could make it thyen put the topping on when I wanted , but obviously not a good idea, just to say I've only just discovered this section and I love it, read lots of good tiops thanks everybody, I will definately be back
I've made my own base, and I didn't cook it until I put on the toppings. I made the base on the day I was having it though and it stood for 20 minutes whilst I prepared the toppings. I used fast action yeast, so didn't need a long rise time.
I have read on somebody's blog (can't remember whoose now), that they pre-cook the base and then put there toppings on. I'm guessing that this might be a crispier base but haven't tried it.
procrasin8r 09-03-2009, 20:51 I usually make my own pizza dough & sauce (tinned toms, garlic & dried oregano reduced down to a thick sauce)
I have before made a double quantity of dough & frozen half the dough which uncooked but rolled into pizza base shape, when I wanted to use I simply defrosted said dough on the baking tray before topping & cooking. another thing I've done is made the double quantity of pizzas but for those I wanted for a later date I only cooked for half the normal time, let them cooled and then froze, when I wanted them I just cooked in a cooler oven.
yesturday I decide I could be bothered needing dough so I instead used some lebonese flat bread I had stashed in the freezer for bases, these worked really well creating crispy thin crusts a bit like stone baked pizzas.
Quick snack pizzas can be made by toasting a split roll, mixing puree with tomato sauce 50/50, smearing tomato on toasted roll, topping with sliced or grated cheese (mozzarella is best but any melting cheese will do, so not crumbly white). Top with sliced cherry tomatoes, oregano, basil, black pepper. My kid brothers were thrilled to bits being able to make their own lunch :D
which reminds me, I have a couple of pizza bases in the cupboard
I usually make a quick lunchtime pizza by spreading tomato puree on a halved ciabatta breadcake then topping with mozzarella and anything else I fancy, drizzling it with olive oil then grilling for 10 minutes or so. Gorgeous.
