I was wondering if anyone knows of any farms in sheffield that sell bales of hay? I sometimes go to one out near Thornberry animal sanctuary bit it's a long way out from where I am (S8). I know you can buy ready treated bales from pet supply companies but I have never had any problems with farm bales in over 5 years of using them and the farm bales work out at about £4 each as opposed to the ready treated bales in the £10-£15 bracket. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thankyou

Your best bet is to contact stables and ask those :)

Hi
Don't know what quantity of hay you are wanting, but I used to buy the big round bales - ok if you have a place to put them unfortunately. They used to be £15 for the big round bale, much more for your money and more economical. The guy who I used to get them off was Brian and his number is 01142879770 - obviously a sheff number but not sure where he was located - but he does deliver if necessary and I am sure he will do the square bales as well - it was also very nice hay. Good Luck hope this helps.

That sounds like a good place to get some from - I get through loads in a week so it's not practical to but the smaller pet shop sized bales. A full sized rectangular bale lasts me about a week and a half. Unfortunatley I've not got space to store a massive round bale (if it's the size I'm thinking of that they have at my riding stavles) but smaller square ones would be fantastic. I'll give him a ring tomorrow - thankyou

Brian is at Ulley, which isn't that far from where you were buying your original stuff. I'm guessing that's Parker's which is just down the road from Thornberry and whilst it sounds expensive it's probably about the right price at this time of the year. Their round bales are £24 but I think delivery to S8 would add to that price.
I do know that Brian doesn't have any small bales at the moment. Philip Waller has a stash, he's just off J31 and I think is listed in the phone book but I think you're looking at paying up to the £4 mark again.
There must be a supplier much nearer for you?
