View Full Version : Shut up Steve Wright
Shelectric 05-03-2009, 16:21 this has been mentioned before but not for a while so I'm on one...
I love radio2 but Steve Wright has got to go. His show is the best show, ask Elvis is hillarious and factoids great, but why does he have to be part of it?
if i hear him sing along to the end of one more song i'll smash the radio :x
horribleblob 05-03-2009, 17:07 I only ever listen to that afternoon slot on R2 when it's Mark Radcliffe on, and tend to agree with your thread title.
JohnnyMathis 05-03-2009, 17:34 He's the new Jonathon Ross when it comes to creeping up the arse of his guests, And his hangers-on I can't bear either.
That Janey Lee Grace harping on about the environment and kids every single day, and Tim Smith who's clearly never spent a day in the real world.
Radcliffe and Maconie, they're the future. Not Emma Forbes - she was worse than any of em when she was on last week!
perplexed 05-03-2009, 17:45 S.W. has turned into a bit of a sycophant in recent years...And the bugger never says who the last record was by, which really irritates me.
Alex Lester is the best DJ on R2.
Most folks aren't aware of him because he's on between 0300 to 0600 before that awful Kennedy, Gemima, Hugo, Aga, Ascot, Cholmondly Warner, Queen Mum, etc woman... :gag:
Never says who the last record was by?! BWAHAHAHA! Even we do that on our request shows and we're not commercial radio! :D
alchresearch 05-03-2009, 19:48 He used to get ripped to shreds on the Radio2 message board to the point that they removed the section where you could chat about R2 programmes!
His show is nothing more than an 80's throwback. He doesn't respect the music one bit and thinks crappy interviews with celebs who want to sell their latest offering or factoids are more important. Or even reading out what's on BBC TV that evening.
Hearing Mark Radcliffe in the slot is absolute heaven. If only he'd find a better sidekick than Emma Forbes. Someone like, hmmmm, I don't know, Marc Riley?
shanes teeth 05-03-2009, 19:50 Never says who the last record was by?! BWAHAHAHA! Even we do that on our request shows and we're not commercial radio! :D
I don't think he ever plays anything that we need telling what it is!
I look forward to his holidays more than I look forward to my own-Mark Radcliff is way better, especially with Lisa Tarbuck.
Bladesman 05-03-2009, 20:29 Thank god other people have noticed how annoying he is.
Everyone I know seems to love him.
ohmyword 05-03-2009, 20:56 Legendary shock jock Nick Abbot has had a few choice words to say about Wright.

Mark and Lard - great combination
steve wright is brilliant -used to listen to him on radio one , before it went all down with the kids ,and started playing all that dance garbage.

Haven't listened to Steve Wright since he was on Radio 1 in the afternoon slot many years ago. He was annoying even then. I think I only listened to the show at all for the short comedy sketches like the ones with Schwartzenagger using an Uzi 9mm in everyday situations.
Much rather listen to Mark Kermode ranting about a film on Friday afternoon. ;)
Every time I hear Mark Radcliffe standing in for Steve Wright on R2 I just think "why can't R2's controllers see just how much better MR's programme is". Whilst SW was a breath of fresh air on R1 when he started he is way past his sell by date and just plain cringeworthy! The only downside of MR moving to the afternoon slot is that it would put an end to the brilliant Radcliffe and Maconie in the evening. To echo previous posters - Mark and Lard anyone?
Smithster 05-03-2009, 23:32 We should start a national campaign...
BRING BACK MARK AND LARD IN THE AFTERNOONS!!!
mistyraven 05-03-2009, 23:36 I like Radio two (boring I know) but I had to turn Terry wogan off all he was going on about were PIES that man is pie mad.
Loved him on radio 1.
Cant stand him now soooo bland and nicey nice almost to the point of being creepy!

Do you have nothing ese to think about?
happyhippy 06-03-2009, 02:11 Legendary shock jock Nick Abbot has had a few choice words to say about Wright.
I wouldn't say he was a shock jock*, as such, but I do remember his late night weekend show on Radio Luxembourg in the late-80s with no delay system on what could only be termed a 'phone-in', on the basis that people did indeed phone in.
This of course was at the time that "The James Whale Radio Show" was being roundly condemned for crudity, and allegedly no delay system. Well, if they wanted swearing and crudity from callers Nick's show was the one.
Half of Western Europe potentially listening, and the only callers would turn the air blue with aquavit fuelled cursing. All this whilst calling at extortionate international rates too.
Tremendous stuff.
*a la Caesar the Geezer, Wild Al Kelly, et al
There are few knobs on yer set...Volume (turn it down maybe?)
On/off (Turn it on/off maybe?)
Tuning (Tune to alt station ?)
Choices choices!
LibertyBell 06-03-2009, 08:29 used to listen to him on radio one , before it went all down with the kids ,and started playing all that dance garbage.
It's called getting old...
shanes teeth 06-03-2009, 08:49 While we're at it shall we have Johnny Walker instead of Wogan in the morning?
Shelectric 06-03-2009, 09:20 Do you have nothing ese to think about?
No! i'm stuck in an office (not what I'm used to) listening to someone elses Radio. My options are limited.
I'm glad so many other people also have nothing else to think about though and agree SW's had his time.
Shelectric 06-03-2009, 09:22 While we're at it shall we have Johnny Walker instead of Wogan in the morning?
LOVE Johnny Walker, he's defines cool
JohnnyMathis 06-03-2009, 10:03 While we're at it shall we have Johnny Walker instead of Wogan in the morning?
No, Wogan's the best man for that job.
Get Walker doing a show at 12-2 instead of that idiot Jeremy Vine.
alchresearch 06-03-2009, 11:05 Wogan's show is tired. It's the same thing from 7.40 to 8am every single day - make some tired old joke about the travel woman and her home village of Splot, then some more tired old jokes and rhymes about Clark's pies, Land Rovers and Wales.
It was amusing at first but it's been going on well over a year now and overdue a rest.
JohnnyMathis 06-03-2009, 11:07 I presume they're grooming Evans for the Breakfast show when Wogan packs in, which I think would be great.
Funky_Gibbon 06-03-2009, 16:22 It's called getting old...
Not really, it's just that there was so much more better music back then
LibertyBell 07-03-2009, 09:42 Not really, it's just that there was so much more better music back then
Hang on....Dad....is that you?

agree with you about Emma Forbes, probably a very nice person, but rubbish on radio. I enjoy listening to Lisa Tarbuck when she's on & as for Sarah Kennedy :loopy: bout time she was put out to grass, her & her bloody cats ....................
Rashspateen 07-03-2009, 10:27 Personally the only person that i can get along with on Radio 2 is Ken Bruce but then I reckon that Ken Bruce is actually Wogan hoodwinking the listeners... Just a thought!! now that Wendy Richards has passed away will "the old woman" mysteriously vanish from fatty wrighty's show ??? Hmmmmm
