kall_sheff 26-06-2005, 00:09 My laptop got drenched in a pool of water . can anyone tell me is it safe to turn to turn ON or shall i take it to a repair centre . Is it going to be economical to repair. I bought for 1300pounds 3 yrs ago... What's the best option ..Urgent advise pls..
Do not turn it on!
Take the battery off straight away and leave it to dry out thoroughly, and i mean for days!
If your incredibly lucky, you'll have a working laptop but i fear it might be a repair job
Hels spilt red wine on her keyboard of her laptop....
Having left it to dry out, it was still a repair job.

Usually spillages such as wine and other drinks would result in a repair job because they are "sticky" liquids which don't totally evaporate, although this could also be said of "hard" water.
Put it in the airing cupboard for about a week (Better the be safe than sorry)

After about a week it sould dry out, the only problem may be when dried out water leaves a fine film on your HDD plates as HDD drives are not 100% water proof, so you may need a new one ( Ebay), other than that you could always sell it to me

Is the correct answer:thumbsup: (assuming the comp was switched off when it became immersed)!

:D :hihi:
mr.blaze 26-06-2005, 17:46 As the water isn't acidic you shouldn't have to worry about the board being corroded. But like everyone has said you must make sure it's completely dry.
Would go with what people have said - emphasis on give it time. Even then you may find you have intermittent keyboard errors and HD problems as mentioned.
However, if it was sea water, you're almost certainly stuffed.
Good Luck!

Robbie Loving 26-06-2005, 20:40 give you £50 for it
I've always used hairdryers to dry out soaked electrical equipment. Nver left any adverse effects (apart from warping record players)
wouldn't that be better than leaving it?
Not neccesarily, drying it out too quick could knacker it even more.
