View Full Version : Where does your dog sleep at night?
deelightful3 05-03-2009, 07:19 was just wondering where your dogs slept, mine is usually in the dining room in her basket under a quilt, but last night she just would not settle and was scratching at the door,my hubby persevered with her and kept going down but i was in 2 minds as to wether to let her into our room, but if i had done that i think she would have wanted to be on the bed and i didnt want that.
Brunette 05-03-2009, 08:44 Downstairs. Sometimes on her bed but quite often on the sofa!
jfish1936 05-03-2009, 09:01 On the bedroom floor; she's too old to jump on the bed.( Min. Poodle)
When her friend Heidi (German shorthaired pointer) stays with us, she (Heidi) has the family room lounge.
Lynz&Rox 05-03-2009, 09:04 In the bedroom on his bed in the corner of the room. Hes curled up there now!! Sometimes he gets in the bed when its really cold in winter and curls up by your feet till hes hot then pushes his way out! :)
Brude has stopped asking to get on the bed since we bought a new soft dog basket with artificial sheepskin lining from Lotti's shop :D He sleeps next to our bed since some scroat frightened the living daylights out of him banging on the window when the spotted him in his crate downstairs where he likes to look out of the window
MARY POPPINS 05-03-2009, 09:10 Timba sleeps at the top of the stairs usually on a quilt, hes a bit big for a basket,
Barney sleeps on the bottom of the bed, and Ellie in a basket in the bedroom, but we just let them sleep where they want and they are never any trouble, I'm sure Timba gets up in the night and goes back downstairs, but Barney and Ellie never move, I have a job getting Ellie up at all.
Lynz&Rox 05-03-2009, 09:14 Rocky moves about too!! Sometimes he goes on the landing and dangles his head off the top step or in the spare room with laminate floor because its colder or on the spare bed because it has a fur throw on it!!!
JarvisCocker 05-03-2009, 09:14 Evie sleeps downstairs usually in her bed or on the sofa, in 'her' spot. She is good as gold as never tries to come upstairs to us.
Spangle, our cat, sleeps on me!
mummysaz21 05-03-2009, 12:50 mine sometimes sleep on the sofa but most of time they sleep on my bed, tia likes space to spread out at bottom and sandy tends to like to cuddle right up to you lol love my girls
Amber has a lovely bed at the foot of our bed, however she prefers to sleep on the bed(my side) good job its superkingsize!
Moonbird 05-03-2009, 13:12 Mine sleep in my bedroom, the pups in a crate, the big one has an armchair, and the old girl in a basket by the bed, they never get on the bed and are really good and sleep until I decide it's time to get up :)
Snagglepuss 05-03-2009, 14:27 Our dog Ghost used to sleep in his own bed when we first got him, but now he sleeps on ours til he gets too hot then gets off. Which is a bit of a bummer for us as he is a very big dog and we only have a 4 foot 6 size bed. It's my own fault I'm so soft with him when it comes to things like that. He's asleep there right now as I am typing this, along with Juno the (psycho) cat lol. :hihi:

Ours have a room to themselves at the back of the house.Dog beds and a crate with no door and a radiator for warmth.(pity they don't know how to turn it on though:hihi:)
Betty sleeps in our bedroom, on a quilt by the radiator. She's technically not allowed to sleep on the bed.
However, she's been caught several times snuggled up to one of us when half the bed was empty. Apparently, the minute she sees the remaining one of us is sound enough alseep, she sneaks onto the bed. The second she realises she's been busted, though, she slinks off back to her bed and acts like she was sleepwalking. :-P
PrincessKate 05-03-2009, 16:10 Ours sleep in the utility, if i was to let them in the house they would just play or jump on our heads in bed, not good when you have a bungalow!

Where do you end up, on the floor?! :hihi:
Molly sleeps on her bed which is by my side of the bed, so she can keep a watch over me while I'm asleep. She doesn't seem to feel the need to guard my BF in the same way (bizarre animal!).
soulmatez 05-03-2009, 17:08 both of mine sleep in the spare bedroom (which is really their bedroom) on loads of dog pillows. we have all the doors open so they wonder about but normaly end up in their room. xxxx
Wow, what a lot of spoilt doggies! I feel quite cruel leaving my D in the Kitchen on his bed now :) He seems to be quite happy there, he does not bark, chew or have accidents so I suppose I could let him anywhere....I just prefer him in the Kitchen and he takes himself there when it gets later than normal bedtime!
they sleep where they choose, normally 3 or 4 in the bedroom with us on the floor, and some on the sofas downstairs or on the spare bed. annax

Actually I would much prefer my lot to be downstairs, before I had the pups I always let Durham sleep upstairs and the others were always downstairs in the living room.
Since the pups came they decided that I wasn't allowed sleep beyond 3/4 hours so after 3 months of that I gave in and crated them upstairs which solved the whole thing fantastically, of course I couldn't leave poor Meg on her own so she had to come too
I hope that in the next couple of years they will all be back downstairs, even though they are good as gold I don't like the hair in my bedroom.
cuddlycats 05-03-2009, 18:17 Pip sleeps crated in the living room. Some people may not agree with that but she is happy with it, and puts herself to bed at night.

Consider yourself lucky! We did try to get Molly to sleep downstairs, but she got so anxious she wet herself and 30 kg of German Shepherd is really hard to ignore when they jump up and down and howl and bark for hours on end.
She will sleep wherever I am, but if she can't get to me in the house she really panics.

Trix sleeps in the kitchen... she has her lovely basket which I bought her from lottie's shop, (After destruct-o-pup chewed shredded her furry fleecy soft one) with her "blankies" and her cushions.
However, she seems to prefer dragging out the bedding from her basket, and sleeping on my wheelchair seat.
She's perfectly comfortable:- She's got her basket and bedding, (and my wheelchair!!!!) her food, water, treats and toys, so she lacks for nothing apart from human company, for the few hours of night, and she's asleep anyway so it's not hurting anything for her to sleep downstairs.
I was determined she would not be allowed to sleep on the bed/ upstairs, after old dog got a bit "umpty" about taking over my bed. I decided I was not going to "make a rod for my own back". Also, I had to stop old dog from sleeping upstairs, as my ex had asthma, and the dog's hair used to make him wheeze if he came in contact with the dog!
Sam&Ams! 05-03-2009, 18:45 My dog Amber sleeps on our bed, she falls asleep at our feet but she normally sneaks up to the top of the bed then under the covers if she gets cold! :hihi:

I've never had cats or dogs sleeping upstairs. The first kitten was supposed to sleep in a basket in the bedroom, but after a couple of nights being woken up by her sharpening her claws on my thighs, she was out!
If they can't be left alone for some reason, I'm quite happy to sleep downstairs with them.
Zeb goes in his crate, Mina sleeps on a sofa (she's never grasped the idea of a dog basket!) and George, the cat, usually sleeps on Mina's beanslab, where he spends most of his life, because it's right up against the radiator.
FizzyPop09 05-03-2009, 19:57 Mine sleep in the kitchen together in their beds next to the radiator.

Amber sleeps in your bed with her head on the pillow!!! Ive seen her when you stop at ours!!!! :D:hihi:

doggie 5 05-03-2009, 20:35 All three dogs sleep in our bedroom, where ever they what. That’s not a problem. THE SNORING IS !!!!!(that’s the dogs as well as the husband)
IluvStaffys 05-03-2009, 21:16 In the bedroom on his bed in the corner of the room. Hes curled up there now!! Sometimes he gets in the bed when its really cold in winter and curls up by your feet till hes hot then pushes his way out! :)
I have one the exact same :)
Feel a bit better now  It did take a couple of months to get him to stop barking at about 4am but it was never bad and only for a little burst and not every night, we just ignored him and stuck with it, we are pretty stubborn! Guess we have had to be as we would have never got to the bottom of a lot of his nervous problems he came with!
We are actually managing to have him around other dogs in a training room now and he seems quite happy (still useless outside with other dogs) he can be off lead for very short burst around 15 other dogs and very strict conditions so if we keep being stubborn with this we might eventually get to the bottom of his last and worst problem of dog aggression. We call it fight club as a joke as there is about 5 other dogs like D all with muzzles on. He is the best in the class with his basic commands, though then again as he is mine; I just think he is the best
eeejay174 05-03-2009, 21:45 dylan is still quite young and can be a little destructive, he sleeps in his crate with loads of blankies, ruby being an old hand at good behaviour has her own comfy chair in the lounge, dylan likes the crate he sees it as his space, he sleeps on the other comfy chair until we go to bed, then he happily puts himself to bed
Snagglepuss 05-03-2009, 21:49 Where do you end up, on the floor?! :hihi:
Well to be honest when hubby's stretching himself out too, I usually end up right on the edge of the bed very nearly on the floor lol. :hihi::hihi:
twibstix 05-03-2009, 21:50 Depends - If my asthma is playing up (dr told me years ago to cut down on dogs, I now have 6, soon to be 7) then they are all caged in the kitchen. Its a new experience for them but one they love, particularly Zak who gets his own cage. Of course now his sister Evie has cottoned on that if you want your own space you get it so has started to be queen grouch at bedtime. Have already bought her her own cage for the van - looks like she will be getting one for the house too.
If I am up and about they have their own four poster beds (2 large ones pushed together) covered in cushions and vet bedding or there's the cages in the kitchen or the bed under the permanently on radiator in the living room.
If I am watching tv snuggled under the blanket I envariably end up with four dogs under it, Evie perched on top of the back of the sofa and Archie spragged out on his own on the four poster beds.
Forgot they also have their own sofa - blue leather which is actually far far too good for them.
If my asthma is behaving then they are often to be found in bed with me. Daisy sleeps down my back, under the duvet, Wilbur has his own cushion at the top of the bed so sleeps either next to my head or at the foot of the bed in the corner near my feet, Rupert the cocker spaniel's speciality is sleeping on my head (quite reassuring once you get past the initial OMG this dog's sparko on my bonce). Evie, Archie and Zak find wherever they want to be under the duvet - and God help me if I move - do I have any idea how comfortable they were and how long (nanoseconds) it took for them to get "their patches" warm!!!!!!!
The new one, absolutely, totally and utterly will never sleep on the bed, never mind in it - honest injun!!!!!
jfish1936 05-03-2009, 22:49 A friend of ours trained greyhounds (BTW, no cruelty, no live baits, and gentler dogs you wouldn't find) He was building the kennels required by law, when a neighjbour "dobbed him in". The inspector came out to his old rambling house -- "these are not finished!"; "No, two more weeks"; "Where do these dogs live?"
Friend showed the inspector into the house:
"This room is Diamond's, and this is Tinkerbelle's" showing two rooms with double beds and doonas (duvets? in British?).
"Do you mean these dogs have their own bedrooms?"
"Well, last year they each earned more than anyone else in the family! Don't they deserve it?"
Lynz&Rox 06-03-2009, 09:39 I have one the exact same :)
Its annoying isnt it!! When he decides hes too hot he crawls up the bed, kicks you, licks your face and stands on your head on his way out!!! :hihi:
Although its nice when the other half gets up for work and he comes and gets in bed with me!! :D
Ours choose as they are very good. Tilly will always sleep in our room and see's no other option lol she has a bed but as soon as Adz is up she is in his spot next to me. If i go up early she will also lay in his spot she knows when it is time to get off though and never has to be told. Albert generally chooses the sofa or the floor downstairs but occassionally graces us with his presence in the bedroom. Every morning though if i am in bed and Adz lets them out he comes up find me tis a noisy experience and not great when he has muddy paws lol but wonderful.
who else has a bed full of grit though?? the downside of dogs in the bedroom.

HAHAHAHA!I thought it was just me! lol
HAHAHAHA!I thought it was just me! lol
Yay someone else who is honest do i now have to admit to just brushing it off rather than changing the bed all the time :D

I would never do that!
I just brush it to my OH`s side lol
squeakyclean 06-03-2009, 16:09 Angus sleeps where ever he wants:) He sometimes gets in bed next to me , puts his head on the pillow and trys to take over the bed!
Classic Rock 06-03-2009, 18:10 Jack's basket is at the bottom of the stairs near the front door. He sleeps there during the night. He was trained from an early age to sleep in his basket and nowhere else.
In the evening if we're watching the telly, he'll come into the living room and either stretch out in the middle of the living room floor or curl up next to the radiator.
Right now, he's in his basket.
I would never do that!
I just brush it to my OH`s side lol
