bertie749 25-06-2005, 17:48 Yo everyone,
New to the site and just looking for some advice......
Recently moved to Sheffield and ''loving It'' but need some new tyres for my Focus. Any clues which sell the best ones at a ''non-ripoff price'' in the Airport area
Ta muchly
Bertie :help:
Greybeard 25-06-2005, 18:10 Vaux Tyres on Carlisle Street are reasonable and sell good quality tyres....but it's the town end of Calisle Street.
steevie/d 25-06-2005, 18:31 effingham tyres on effingham rd got some for my omega 2 for £75 been quoted £70 for 1 it pays to shop around
Claire18 25-06-2005, 19:02 On a similar subject, can anyone recommend a reliable, reasonably-priced garage for servicing (Ecclesall road area)? I'm also fairly new to Sheffield and my car will need it's service in the next couple of months.
muddycoffee 25-06-2005, 19:06 I go to Mr Exhaust for my car tyres, it is just off Bramhall lane, 50 yds from United Ground and extremely cheap and very proffessional. Ask for Glen or Darren. Or if you're in hillsborough Graham's Tyres on Leppings lane, opposite Wednesay Ground
Football and tyres available right across the city.
Magneteer 25-06-2005, 19:33 Effingham Tyres are the best value I've found
I'm not suggesting you will, but please don't skimp on the price of tyres.
They are, after all, your only contact with the road and you should always try to fit the best you can afford, as they are a major contributor to road safety
bertie749 26-06-2005, 20:19 Thank to everyone for the advice...... I bought decent ones cause me old pa always says 'buy cheap and buy twice'.
I know its too late now you bought your tyres but Autodynamics on Attercliffe Road is one of the best value places for tyres in the area. They mainly sell alloy wheels but do tyres too for any make and model of car.
TOO LATE NOW, BUT DO NOT GO TO KWICK FIT ON ECCY ROAD, VERY BAD IDEA, WONT GO INTO DETAIL WILL JUST SAY AVIOD IT!
ON THE OTHER HAND, CHARLIE BROWNS ON PENISTONE ROAD, HILLSBOROUGH IS GOOD!!!
Unregistered 04-07-2005, 12:50 I've got a 10 year old Ford Escort 1.3 that I just use for getting to work and NEVER use on the motorway.
I only average 60 miles per week and I run it on a shoestring.
Over 5 years ago, in May 2000, I bought 4 new tyres from Kwik Fit, Penistone Road, Hillsborough for £64. That was for four 155 x 13 brand new tyres, valves, balancing and VAT.
Now, 16,783 miles later, the front two are just about ready for renewal before the impending MOT. The back two are sound.
Kwik Fit have just quoted me £52 all inclusive for two.
Challenger on Rutland Road want £44 all inclusive for two.
I will go to Challenger.

I've changed my mind . . .
I've been to Graham's Tyres on Leppings Lane, at the rear of the Sheffield Wednesday football ground.
£42 for two brand new tyres, including valves, balancing, fitting and VAT. Brand name ENDURO.
BoppinBruce 04-07-2005, 15:03 Give Neepsend Tyres a look in. They are cheapest I have found in 20 years in Sheffield

I did - They ''would match the price'' but they didn't have them in stock.
Unfortunately, I take weeks to get round to doing things like that - then I want them doing like yesterday.
UnkleBob 11-07-2005, 20:29 Has anyone been to Wicker tyres lately, on the Wicker, (natch) They used to be good VFM but last time i went down (sat afternoon) they were shut. Are they still in business?
Always CAREFULLY read the Ads.
Some all in with valve & balance - some not.
And some great offers, then charge the most stupid price for valve & balance. The peugeot dealer on Penistone Road once did this trick!

MadChick 13-07-2008, 20:39 I purchased a new (?) exhaust from Effingham Tyres for my car and the CAT Convertor became faulty soon afterwards. It cost me approx £250.
Effingham Tyres would not replace it and said I would have to purchase a new one (Forking out another £250) so they could then check to see if it was actually faulty. Then i would get a refund.
What happened was soon after I had the exhaust fitted the engine management light came on and I had taken it to another garage for checking on the computer and it said it was due to a faulty catalytic convertor. I then had proof of this in the form of a print out which i shown to the manager of Eff Tyres but this was not good enough. The engine management light came on again and again it the computer said it was Cat that was faulty. Again not good enough for the manager of Eff Tyres. He didnt beleive it....
I took my car down 3 times for Effingham Tyres to test (as they said they wanted to check the fault out on thier computer - not trusting the print out i had) or to replace the exhaust, but they lied to me all these 3 times and didnt do anything with my exhaust whilst my car was left with them. I also wasted time off work...The owner of the garage was never around when I went to collect my car to tell me to my face he could not be bothered to do anything with my car.
The CAT that they have put on my car is a euro cat so i have been told and is not suitable for my car.
I will never go to the Effingham Tyres again....
Dont use them unless you want to be ripped off......Sometimes shopping around and getting the cheaper deal doesnt always pay off. I should have stuck to Charlie Browns.
Now the warranty has run out on the exhaust so i have to purchase a brand new one which will be more money that the cheap tat that effingham have obviously sold to me....
AVOID THIS PLACE
chinaski 14-07-2008, 13:55 Some prats in Eckington drove a nail into one of the rear tyres on my c-max while it was parked overnight. My Dad picked the car up the next day as he was taking my kids out for day (saves swapping the car seats!) and then a neighbour warned me about the tyre. So my Dad took the car to Kwik fit on bottom of Eccy Rd. The other rear tyre needed doing aswell (surprise, surprise). Two rear tryes = £225!!! Surely that's not standard.
Cotsco has some cheap tyres being sold last time, but you need to be a member to get in.

We used to use Effingham tyres a lot and found them friendly, cheap and good at what they did. Then one time with my o/h's car they failed to diagnose a fault correctly and wanted us to pay for the first fix and the second. So now she wont use them but I'm happy to for something simple like tyres or the exhaust.
AJ sheffield 14-07-2008, 14:35 Billy Boys at Unit 25/26 Penistone Trading Estate, Penistone Road. They obliterated any prices on my 17 inch tyres, specially those quoted by expensive places like Autodynamics.

I feel Kwick Fit get some bad press. My o/h took my car to work and got a puncture, green flag came out to put the spare on and I took it to the one on eccy road. As in your case they said (the puncture was a front wheel) the other one was ready to be replaced. Rather than think I was being ripped off I checked the depth of the tread and it was at 1.3mm which is the legal limit. So I had 2 new fronts for £106. And they were the cheapest ones at £31 each. I think you can get cheaper if you shop around but with Kwick Fit you get better guarentees, can take a leek and get a cuppa for 40p whilst you wait. Also the one on eccy road means you can stroll round the botanical gardens whilst they work on your car.

I beg to disagree with your quote, we are cheaper than most places in Sheffield for Tyres, and are the top rated garage in this area for Blackcircles.com
A couple of employees of Billy Boy tyres have purchased both wheels & tyres from us very recently! I think that speaks for itself - coupled with the excellent feedback we have on Blackcircles.com and on this forum.
Kind regards

Not knocking the shop mrsb73, just the quotes I got on my 17s. As for your wheels and tyre wheel packages, yours are probs the best in Sheffield.
