Read a few complaints about an episode of eastenders being racist. Here are some fulham fans complaining about it http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/messageboard.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=69424

It appears the white people of this country have had enough of coloured people playing the race card and now playing it back.

What you all think? I find it petty to be honest. I didn't think anything of it having an all black episode of eastenders.

You know this sort of thing is happening more and more. I was watching an old episode of Take the High Road on UK Gold the other day, and everyone on it was Scottish, the world's going mad.

I don't think the all-black episode of Eastenders was such a major issue.

However, I do think the way the Eastenders production team portrays real-life in general is a disgrace.

It smacks of high-paid suburb-dwelling liberals trying to be 'edgey' and provide some sort of insightful social commentary into working class areas.

At least Coronation Street and Emmerdale are pretty much tongue in cheek and don't take themselves too seriously.

Isn't "eastenders and it's equivalents" bad enough?

I've noticed a rise in the "Racist" threads again after it seemed to die down. Life seems to be empty once again for some.

No one cares, it's not like Eastenders is actually any good anyway.

BBC are stupid for doing this, surely they knew it would cause offence to certain people? :loopy:

Yeah, I watch Neighbours, and everyone in that's Australian! Mad innit? :loopy:

The Politically Correct "can't do this/that/the other" Brigade needs to shut the heck up, seriously, no one cares.

It's a reight show...

You're joking right?

Eastenders is the most depressingly pants show the BBC puts out IMO, even most of the women in it are fugly.

Nobody in the North should watch Eastenders. I just quickly dip in for a couple of minutes every so often to remind me why the south is crap and it's inhabitants are equally as dire, it makes me proud to be Northern!

I think that you should be a bit more careful in your use of insults.

I haven't watched 'enders for ages, but wasn't this episode about the Trueman family? Who happen to be black. They have often done shows dedicated to one family, so what's different about this one?

Or did it feature other black characters, was it specifically designed to be an all-black show?

If it's simply the former, then it's a load of fuss about nothing, twisted out of context and relevance to suit one side of the 'Pee cee' debate

If it's the latter, then it's a bit daft, but it's just someone at the BBC trying to be right-on

fugly = fairly ugly (ahem...)? That's as backhanded a compliment as telling a girl she's "Quite good looking....".... :hihi:

Eastenders makes me laugh, feel at home and is more serious on issues than coronation street or emmerdale.

What eastenders did wrong was kill off most of its old characters.

I think it's marvellous that a soap opera which is on the cutting edge of popular culture realises that it has a social responsibility. The said episode could be used in a school for a citizenship lesson to trigger an intellectual debate about coloured people and their role in contemporary British society.

Bravo! Well done 'Enders!

From the Fulham FC website -

''Im not a racist, but i do get sick of the way WHITE people are treated by the BBC... Imagine the uproar if it was the other way around.

It seems we really don't matter anymore and im sick of it. Ive written this complaint to the bbc... i wonder if i'll get a response.

The BBC is Racist... Tonights Eastenders features no white people speaking. Surely this is a massive joke. Im all for equal rights but this smacks of RACISM of the highest order. What have the BBC got to prove? Look how 'right on' we are.. An all BLACK Eastenders.. Well im sorry but you have offended me for this blatant racism against white people. I pay my licence fee for entertainment, not for idiots at the BBC to try and prove a stupid point. This is outrageous.. and im truly shocked.''

What a ridiculous overreaction. What a total loser!

I only watch eastenders when I feel depressed. No matter how bad I think life is - there's always an 'ender that has it worse!!:hihi:

It is the most depressing soap out there, but like I say, there is always a drama/murder/disaster/arguement which is theraputic.. :loopy:

I dont like Corrie - i think its gone stupid - and I hate emmerdale!!

Bring back ELDORADO!! :hihi:

I think there have been all-white episodes of Eastenders. I think there have been all-female episodes of Eastenders. I bet there have been all-shouty people episodes of Eastenders.

IMO the only racist thing about it was that they actually touted it as an all black show. I don't think anyone would have even noticed if they hadn't. Bad idea.

Hmm

I remember watching enders on Xmas day in a mate's pub a few years ago when Jamie died. Now Sonia's face on the big screen, crumpling in anguish raised a large "urghhhhhh" from the gentlemen then present.

I'm not saying it's correct, but i'd wager that Dawn or whoever Sam Janus plays wouldn't have caused the same reaction :hihi:

But then I'm that bloody great mesen that everyone seems fugly in comparison :hihi:

You have to look inside the book, not judge by the cover. I bet even Rich has a beautiful soul

It's not sexist. It's perfectly reasonable for a bloke to want fit birds on his telebox! Anyone seen Sky Channel 900? It has naked news with birds reading 'news' wearing nowt! Haha! It's mega man!

As for 'enders. It was a bit racialist but I think people was getting a bit het up about it! I didn't like it cos Danielle is my favourite, and obviously she wasn't in it due to her erroneous ethnicity.

Just what I want to see when I watch the news, a naked bird reading it. They're scary enough when they still have their feathers. :hihi:

I have nothing agaisnt anyone but I thought I would add that I remember once on the radio there was a advert pacifically asking for black foster parents, which I thought was a bit odd because if they said white foster carers all hell would break loose. I don't understand it. :loopy:

Haha. In fairness, it's not really hot 'news' but it is amusing for a few seconds. The show that sometimes follows it is called "Totally Busted", and it's amazing! LOL!!

It's a tricky issue this whole racism lark innit? What was the criteria used by Eastenders? I mean, did they have to be full on black, or was mixed race alright? How about the poor Masood family? They're not WASPs but they are well good! I don't like it. Although let's at least celebrate the fact that Ian Beal won't have been in it.
