View Full Version : Cat with a tattoo in yesterdays Daily Mirror
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/03/02/scandal-of-tattoos-on-cats-115875-21164161/
 I read this yesterday in the Daily Mirror and cannot believe a tattooist would agree on inflicting such pain on an animal. I am absolutely disgusted.
Anything for the right money eh....poor cat?
words fail me, whats wrong with people....................... annax
heavenlyarts 04-03-2009, 07:38 Anyone doing it in this country should be done for animal cruelty!!
wasn't somebody done for this in the states recently? that and piercings
srtaylo0 04-03-2009, 11:26 words fail me...
I've heard of animals having numbers tattoo'd in their ears for identification and thought that was what I was going to see...
putting an animal "under" has risk and I would not do it lightly for medication but for a senseless tattoo - the owner obviously has no respect for their pet !
thats awful.
Whats wrong with these people, they shouldn`t be allowed animals!
OMG, I feel physically sick, that poor creature. I hope he doesn't suffer any adverse side effects.
green-veggie 04-03-2009, 19:50 Totally outrageous! Giving a cat the anaesthestic, presumably administered by someone who isn't qualified in vetinery practice, in a tattoo parlour and then keeping them under for 3 hours whilst they tattoo them!!! I can't believe that anyone could do that to any living being who is defenceless and has no way to understand or give consent. Where did they get the anesthetic drugs from? And the medical equipment?
I wonder if the RSPCA or/and police have investigated this? This seems a very wrong situation.
Tinkerbella 04-03-2009, 20:49 This is so awful its bad enough what theyve put him through but the rough way they are handling him afterwards makes me sick!! People like that dont deserve the right to own beautiful animals like that!!
IluvStaffys 04-03-2009, 21:37 I hope the cat retaliates 1 day and permenantly scars her for life so everyone can see sicko's
sheff290 04-03-2009, 22:13 do like those cats but not with a tattoo thats warped
sazzlebrin 04-03-2009, 22:30 i agree its totally wrong, some people just see their pets as a fashion accesssory and shouldnt be able to have animals...
but couldnt help thinking they would call it a CATTOO !!!
There are quite a few tattooed animals (and pierced ones too) on the BMEzine site. I'm not posting a link to it because it contains images which aren't suitable for a family forum, but if you want to look then search for 'tattooed animals'.
Even on the BME site, where some really quite extreme body modifications are pictured and described (BME stands for Body Modification Extreme, so please don't visit there if you're expecting pretty pictures), they are at pains to point out that these are submitted by the public and they do not condone the piercing or tattooing of animals in any way.
Whilst there is an important role filled by ear clipping and identification tattoo markings, I fail to see why or how anyone can feel that this sort of thing is a benefit to any animal. I also disagree with tail docking, surgical ear shaping for cosmetic reasons, doggy perfume, fashion clothing for animals, ridiculous grooming and clipping regimes and any animal being used as a fashion accessory.
Somehow I can't see my opinion being listened to very much by people who are prepared to have an animal put under an anaesthetic so they can get a pretty picture tattooed on to them.

Read the news article through properly, then you'll KNOW why the police and RSPCA haven't done anything about it
Plain Talker 05-03-2009, 08:46 please, god, tell me it's a temporary tat, or a photoshop! I need brain bleach! The poor kitty!
sick people. Poor animal. People like that shouldn't be allowed pets!

PrincessKate 05-03-2009, 15:23 i feel for that poor cat, i have just had a tattoo and its not the nicest experience in the world, plus after it still hurts like hell and goes flaky and scabby, poor little thing.
gwilders 05-03-2009, 22:57 Wow!!!
It looks amazing and very imaginative as well but i think people are overreacting a lot.
Tinkerbella 06-03-2009, 12:28 How is it amazing when an innocent animal has been put through something like this!! Its disgusting enough that he was put to sleep for 3 hours so it could be done but how about the pain after when he had come round!!!
:o cant let me cat see this, he will definitely want one now.
beansforyou 06-03-2009, 15:07 I find it interesting how they are up in arms about using animals as 'fashion accessories' - but inbreeding lines to get certain 'types' isn't classed as fashion?
This tattooing happened in Moscow, over here we can have our pets tattoo'd for security reasons, similiar to microchipping, where a largish chip is implanted inside the animal, I don't think the animal gets much of a say about what pain either the tattooing or chip causes, and they don't get any aenesthetic.
Over in Japan they have been tattooing fish for years, I believe it is also becomming popular in the US. Most Parrot fish you find in pet stores here are also chemically coloured.

Hiya Strix :) You're right I didn't read the article properly. I hadn't realised it was in Russia.
However, whilst the RSPCA and UK police couldn't be involved, why weren't the Russian equivalents, or grass roots animal activists making some noise about it?
In the end whichever country it is doesn't really matter to me. Screaming indignation is always valid when beautiful defenceless animals are abused and neglected. I'll never apologise for that! :)
I'm calling photoshop/fake tattoo on that one. The cat obviously is anaesthetised, but I know when I had my tattoo done, it was all swollen, red and inflamed. Look at the pale skin the cat has, surely it'd look at least a bit sore?

there's no mark on the cat's foreleg, though, where the vet would have put a needle to anaesthetise the cat...?
as I said in my earlier post, I just hope to goodness it is just a photoshop, and that the date should have read "April 1st".
