There is a book around called the lost pubs of Sheffield. It may be in there

Here's an entry from the Sheffield 1852 Whites Directory that seems to match.....

Machin John, scissor manufacturer, and victualler, [The] Cup, 17 Dun street. Dun Street ran between Penistone Road and Green Lane - quite close to Kelham Island.

The was another pub called 'The Old Cup' on Market Street which is the top road of Fitzalan Square.

Edit:....Welcome to the forum :D

Hi Marty,

I have the definitive A to Z listing of sheffield pubs and there are six seperate pubs listed called the CUP.

1] 52 Button Lane
2] 19 Paternoster Row
3] 112 Sorby Street 1860s - 1930s
4] 7 Market street a.k.a. Oldcup, Market Tavern 1820s - 1900s
5] 120 Duke Street
6] 11-15 or 17 Dun Street, S3 a.k.a. Gardeners Rest

that's all it says about them

I am looking for a relation who may have 'kept' the 'Cup' in the early 1900's in the name of Clare or Wild.
