View Full Version : Marley and Me - The movie.
I went to see Marley and Me with Scoop Jr last night.
Oh my goodness, take your tissues thats all I can say! I haven't been to a film where the whole audience were sobbing like that since ET!
It was a lovely film, but I think it may have been a bit too sad at the end for small children, Scoop jr was very upset, and he's not usually very soppy.
natalie H 03-03-2009, 12:39 Oh no, I really wanna see this but I get so emotional so I don't know if I should risk it haha :)
Nooooo .. the dog dies ???????
Oh ... well you've saved me £5 - I was going to see it on Saturday. Cheers.
natalie H 03-03-2009, 13:13 I definitely can't watch it then!!

I never said the dog died. Could be something else really sad for all you know. :hihi:
Pffft .... you've saved me a snotty nose ! I'll wait for the DVD. My daughter would have curled up in shame had I cried in the cinema!
It's a about the entire life of the dog, of course that is going to include the end of the dogs life, I cried when i read the book (which was excellent) looking forwardto seeing the film.
I read the book - and it'll probably drive me nuts seeing the film
I bet they had fun filming that one :D

I had actually not the foggiest idea of what the film was about other than it involved a dog.
Thought it was just a soppy love story.
Buttercup88 04-03-2009, 20:06 It is a beautiful film, it just shows how your pet is there throughout your lives. The dog in it is really funny!
I was crying too, along with everybody else in the cinema!
natalie H 16-03-2009, 15:44 Went to see it last night, I absolutely sobbed my heart out..and so did everyone in the cinema...including my other half who just doesn't cry at things like this normally.
Fantastic film but soooo sad at the end.
Ooooh it sounds good and i really want to see it but i don't wanna sit and cry in the cinema....:hihi:
I saw the movie last week, excellent although I had to make an excuse to go to the loo before the ending, I couldn't watch it.
I've ordered it on R1 DVD from Playusa.com anyway.

natalie H 16-03-2009, 15:54 I will never watch it again, I just can't do it!
I was still crying when I got into the car :hihi:
I'm not watching it then if its sad. I don't want anyone seeing me cry!

Then don't go ... seriously .. DON'T .. my daughter dragged me along last week and I had to walk out of the screen room at one point as I was going to let out a big, loud, SOB !
Whether you've had a dog, a rabbit, a mouse .. any pet that is dear to you ... this film captures how a pet isn't just a pet, but a part of the family.
Randy Marsh 26-03-2009, 20:58 When i went to see this the other week it took everything i had to keep the tears in. Wouldn't watch it again, don't think i could take it.

Dogtvmad 27-03-2009, 14:16 has anyone seen this movie? is it good?
I want to see it, but my dog who was a lot like Marley has just died so I don't know if I could face it! Would love to know what it's like though!
Dogtvmad 27-03-2009, 14:20 aww bless :( im sorry to hear that :(
im being taken out tommorow on a date and he wants to take me to pics to see marley and me and just wanted to no a bit about film b4 i sit and watch it
foxforcefive 27-03-2009, 14:27 Well, my sister went with her hubby last week and said she cried buckets, not just silent but actually sobbed, her hubby also admitted he had a bit of a cry, so for a first date I wouldn't have thought it a good idea.
missrabbit 27-03-2009, 14:33 I saw it last week and i balled my eyes out in the cinema. Saddest film i have ever seen. :(
Mercenary 27-03-2009, 14:44 I heard the review by Mark Kermode on Five Live and he said it was an awful film. 'Sentamentality porn' was the phrase I think he used!
Disagree .. and I was kinda scowly about it at first ... as said before .. for anyone who has had a family pet .. it shows the unconditional love that an animal gives and depicts it's place within the family perfectly.
I read reviews .. but I don't not go if someone says it's a pap film - I love animals (probably more than people), so it appealed to me .. probably wouldn't have seen it at the cinema had my daughter not wanted to go, but I would certainly have watched it when it came out on DVD.

That pretty much sums up how I felt about it. It was 2 hours of terrible cast trying their hardest to make me give a damn about their lives. I am an animal lover, and through my early life always had pets, and loved my dogs to bits...but this film just made me despise Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston more than I though would be possible!
It felt more like one of those made-for-Tv late night weepies than a big-screen flick. Towards the end of the film as it kept fading out (as though it was the end) but then kicked in another scene of wishy-washy emotions, I almost lost the will to live (although I almost did the same earlier in the film when Wilson's voiceover does the "Went for a walk, fed Marley, tidied up, blah blah blah" for what felt like an eternity.
I'm sure the book is great, given that it was drawn from the authors own experiences - but the film is dreadful.

Haha yep that is about what Kermode said as well. Not sure if the podcast is still available but it was a very good review.
Classic Rock 27-03-2009, 19:43 Laughter and tears. Great film.
ted bear 31-03-2009, 12:24 good film but I preferred the book
The book broke my heart, had dogs all me life, its not sentimental crap, its human emotions. Just a natural reaction from us who are actually human.
