I've just had a letter thru this morning saying this.

"We need to let you know that the usage on your broadband account is well above the monthly allowance for the package you signed up to.

Your paying for a 6GB allowance and your average use for the last 3 months has been 35GB a month.

This means you are heavily in breach of your Terms Of Use.

To carry on using the internet this heavily, you'll need to upgrade your Broadband account to our 30GB monthly usage allowance now and keep withing this limit"

Utter ********.

How can you download 35GB a month, I dont download films and I only use Napster for my music.. so how the hell can I be using 35GB a month.

Total ****e.... what should I do about it please and has anyone had this problem before as well with them?

Just rang Wanadoo to complain and the guy didnt know what the hell was going on at all.. he asked me to download a download meter from www.dumeter.com and check my weekly download quota.

Summat fishy is going on here methinks and also the guy told me that it is BT that tell Wanadoo what you are downloading and how much you use the internet?????

Very weird, just wanted to warn everyone up front.

They also kept pestering me to upgrade my account to the £27.99 Heavy Users package also.

Might be changing my provider then boys and girls.

Wouldn't that be about 20 films a month?
There's no where near that amount being released anyway. What do they think your doing, making your way through the movie archives on Torrent spy or something :loopy:

I think I've probably racked up over 30gb in a month quite a lot of times on a 512kb connection... its not that hard really... then again I was one of those people that managed to download gigs and gigs and gigs on a 56kb connection... lol

anyways, tis easy to download 2Gb a day, so theoretically its easy to rank up 60Gb in a month :? I'd hate to see how much I actually use... theres supposed to be a 15gb limit on my bt broadband, but so far they only have meters for the 1Gb users... so unless they give me a meter they can screw

if the company doesnt offer a means to view your usage then how can you know what your using? its unfair, and most likely have no grounds to sue you or charge you for over use unless they make it easy for you to view

just downloaded that meter and clocked up 1.5 meg in just over 2 mins of normal surfing so its entirely possible to do 35 gig I suppose.

Well i'm new to all this monitoring type stuff so i've downloaded the program and surfed away for about 10 mins now. It's showing me my download/upload speed but it's not showing me my overall download %
Where do i view that?

[EDIT] Scratch that! I found it

And don't forget as far as the ISP is concerned your accountable usage is Upload + Download.

If you're thinking of migrating Metronet (http://www.metronet.co.uk/) seem quite good and you can check your usage on a daily basis....but it's a 'wires only' service.

Angelus do you only use your BB connection for email and surfing if so 35 gig a month is way out. The only other way you could rack up huge amounts is by consant online gaming.

What protection do you use firewall, spyware removal etc....

Hey.. I rarely check my emails and that.. and I've only just started playing games online also.

I do download stuff from Napster now and again just little bits and bobs from around the internet.. nothing like 35gb a month though.

We use the following @ Casa Angelus

2 PC'S using- Agnitum Outpost PRO firewall + Nod32 Pro AV
Also both using Microsoft Antispyware technology.

We run the internet through a Netgear Wirless Router as well linked to both PC's thru WiFi.

EDIT:

Just thought of something as well, shouldnt I have been charged for being in excess of my limit of 6gb if I have actually gone over???? Very weird.. I've not done anything else that I normally do every other month.

Still think its Wanadoo trying to fleece me methinks.

I had a similar letter from Wannadoo a few months back, but i have to admit i was going over the limit.

Did you say you were using a wireless connection? If so are you sure you have the correct security set up, maybe someone is piggy-backing your wireless link and using your internet connection?

sounds very likely that someone is using your connection - either via the wireless connection or via spyware on your pc.

I'd give it a scan with adaware or spybot and see what comes up.

You are that far over your usage levels - which you were unaware of - that it can only be that sort of thing or BT f**king up again..

Hey everyone.

I've got the wireless secured over 2 PC's using their own network access codes so nobody can be using the wifi without me knowing and I run a spyware scan every night and I havent picked anything up so far.

Its very weird, but I still reckon wanadoo is trying to get people to buy the bigger packages to be honest, and its a dirty trick doing it like this.. if I had being using 35gb a month they would have fined me for going over my 6gb limit, which I have never been charged for??

Very weird.
