Watched the final episode of this amazing series last night. Only watched the first one because there was nothing else on, but it gripped me straight away and I haven't missed an episode of this series.

A real eye opener, and we should all be thankful for our brave lads and lasses out there. The loom of awe on Ross Kemps faces when these guys go into battle is amazing.

Its an (sorry to use an American word) awesome series. The things those guys go through on a daily basis I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.

Full respect to all of them and Ross Kemp was brilliant in all the episodes of both series!

I didn't really rate Ross Kemp before I saw this series, but I have to say I've been pretty impressed with him (and lets not forget the crew with him).

He does well when interviewing the soldiers too, because I think he has credibility in their eyes. Sometimes he over, emphasisis, every, word, he says, with, a pause like I've just written, which he doesn't need to do. But this is a very minor niggle about an exceptionally good series which deserved the plaudits it received. :)

If you were in a genuine life-or-death battle situation would you really let a washed-up ex-soap star and his camera crew come along for the ride? I suspect much of this drivel is faked!

Kemp has been an object of ridicule for me in the past, but these programs changed my opinion. Drivel it isn't despite its populist presentation.

No, I don't believe it was faked. I'd be interested to know why you do.

You don't think that turning a genuinely life-or-death battle into a tacky reality show might be just a bit...er...dangerous? I'm no expert on battle tactics but I would have thought the essence of staying alive is not to give away your position to the enemy. It must be a bit tricky trying to hide your position from enemy snipers when you've got some bloke doing a piece to camera in front of one bloke holding a camera, another with a big boom mike and another holding a spotlight.

I think he'll have been invited on the less serious campaigns, but never the less, top lad for doing it. he's nearly been hit about 5 times on camera, you can hear the bullets flying by

The Taliban know what the soilders are doing. they track the soilders from the base. so you cant say the camerman stands out a mile

I'd watch it before giving my opinion Basil. It's only him and the cameraman for the most part.

Like I say, I'm no fan of Ross Kemp, but he really does his bit as the "man on the Clapham Omnibus" seeing the conflict in Afghanistan for himself, up close and yes - dangerous.

I don't think highlighting the dangers these people put themselves through and the pitiful amount they get paid can be described as a tacky reality show. Its not a reality show, its a documentary.

As a previous poster said, its mainly just him and a cameraman.

Although of course, its all fake and the British forces called the Taliban to see if they could fire some blank shots in the direction of Ross Kemp to make it look more dramatic...

No I haven't. i think the fact that it was him gave me the opinion it was just going to be some ex soap star pretending to be hard hanging with some gangs, but after watching these army docs I'll watch the gang ones when they are repeated.

In the last episode, a soldier was killed on the operation they were filming. Did they fake that?
