This months meet will take place at the Royal Standard on St Marys Gate next Wednesday 11th March, to commence at 8pm. No particular agenda this time, but as before, if there's anything anybody wants to discuss, please post in here before the night.
We've chosen a Wednesday night for a change instead of Thursday cos we are already meeting up on the Friday for the Millionaires Night, and 2 nights on the trot might be a bit much for some people! Also, another reason for having the meet that night is to enable anybody who is struggling to get their money for the Millionaires Night to me, to be able to pop down to the Royal Standard with it that night.
Be nice to have as many people as possible turn up again, I think we had a cracking night last time, and hopefully we'll do the same again. If anybody gets there before me, will they try and "grab" that little room that we had last time please :)

Doubt it this time. Busy that week as it is and I wasn't that keen on the venue

We should be there. Would like to get definite names down to be bankers at the tables for millionaires night. Also, still not many people posting their intentions to attend Millionaires night, although lots have said they are coming. PLEASE post if you are intending to come - it makes organising so much easier with a rough idea of numbers!

Well, we can't suit everybody all the time, but what other pubs are there where we can park right outside, are close to the centre of town, and have an almost private room we can have to ourselves?

The Harlequin? I know we use it a lot but there's a reason for that.

I don't mind a change of venue, it was OK for a one off but I won't be going back. It's just not somewhere I would ever choose to drink in.

The Harlequin is just as good a venue, if not better, but we'll be in there 2 days later, and twice in 3 days is probably too much. Not only that, people who live on the other side of town have asked could we choose somewhere nearer them, hence the choice of St Marys Gate.
Re the Royal Standard not being somewhere you would choose to drink in, got to agree with you there, I wouldn't choose it either. But the idea of the meet isn't to drink, it's to have a meet, and basically if the majority said could we spend all night in a cafe to have the meet, or a church hall, well thats where we'd have the meet. Crikey, I hope nobody does suggest a church hall, unless the sherry comes out that is :D

Fine, but next time why not choose somewhere where we'd both like to drink, somewhere with no music or televisions :D

Sorry Taxman, removed the "young people" part of your post, so it couldn't be miscontrued by the young people who I am trying to encourage to join the Group! I quite enjoyed watching the footie that night actually once we'd found out how to turn the sound off!

Hi
should be along for this meet, being selfish I can't fault the venue it's within easy walking distance from the railway station.

I was one of the people who requested a pub nearer to town and where I work/live. Sorry if its not to everyones liking, I am happy to go with the majority next time. There must be plenty of other pubs we can try. Maybe we could do a pub crawl and give each one a Walkers Group rating?

Five golden boots to the winner! :hihi:

Count me in. I can't fault the venue at all, for a start as Nooka says it's close to where I work and means I can leave the car in the car park.

To be honest I enjoy having music in the background without really listening to it, after all you don't have to if you don't want; I can't say I even noticed the television but then again I do wear glasses.

Really enjoyed the atmoshere in the meeting (lets recreate it again) and out. but maybe that's just me.

See you all there.

Don't know if it's any use to you V.O. but I know you'll be going there straight from work, and I wondered if you knew that the Royal Standard does some decent grub at tea-time at reasonable prices. I used to go there occasionally when I worked next door, and I used to have burger, chips and salad and it was ok.

It was high up, above the door as you came in. I think you came later than most people, by which time we'd managed to turn the sound off!

yep the very large flat screen with surround sound in the corner I could not hear a thing over the noise and life in the pub (only kidding about the flat screen tv and noise) yep it was a little tv. but the pub did have a bit of life in it. which is great for a pub which is a bit out of the way. I always thought it was a pub you would go and find the old guy sat in the corner supping his pint a bit of a waiting room for god. Not so ok it may die out of student term, but it had a good atmosphere.

On second thoughts. I thought the pub with Telly was great. I apreciate how difficult it is to please everyone in the group at all times. But then there are some people who winge whatever.

Good meet as usual with lots of stuff decided. Everything will be put on threads in due course, with April walks including Eyam, Porter Valley, Tissington and Cleethorpes/Tetney Marsh. Midweek evening walks will start up again soon, a live music night out and a camping weekend on the agenda too.
Thanks to everybody who turned up, and for all the offers to help. Much appreciated
