I have a rover 25 and want to drain off the oil.. change the oil filter and refill again with fresh oil!

Anyone know where abouts the sump is to drain off the oil and how to change the oil filter?

The sump is underneath the engine and usually has a plug about an inch wide which you undo with a spanner, collect the old oil in bowl and check in handbook how much there will be. Do it with engine warm as it flows out more easily. The filter is a cylindrical tin can like thing on side of engine which can sometimes be unscrewed by hand or you can drive a screwdriver through it and turn it with that, it will be full of dirty oil too.

As it says in Haynes manuals, replacing and refilling is the opposite, it is prudent to run some engine flush cleaning stuff through it first.

Get back to us when you've got it off before we blind you with technicalities. It's a useful and very easy thing to do which saves quite a bit of money. Changing oil regularly is good way of ensuring the engine lasts.

And your local recycling centre will probably have facillities for disposing the old oil.

Why get yopurself dirty? National are doing oil (mobile) and filter change for £20!
By the time you get a decent oil £12-15 and £5 for filter you are just wasting your time
