I didn't know there was a height restriction on being disabled.
TheBlueDragon 25-06-2005, 11:09 why not? There is always plenty of room to have them

Sorry brooksy it was just the way I read it, you are probably right about H&S.
bostonaire 25-06-2005, 11:51 They wouldnt be placed any lower than the hand dryer, toilet roll dispenser and paper towel dispenser i should think and theyre under H & S regulations.
banesmabes 25-06-2005, 12:14 Easy answer to this - because society doesn't think that disabled people have sex!
Plain Talker 25-06-2005, 12:15 darn! banes, you just beat me to that! i was just about to say exactly the same thing.
drat!
but yes, folk do seem to think that we are asexual, and/ or don't have love lives.

Do they have Tampax or Sanitary Towel Machines in Disabled Toilets? If they do then surely Condom Machines shouldn't be a problem.:suspect:
Yeah strange one that....coz disabled toilets generally see more action in that department than the general cubicle as there is soooo much more space and even rails to hold onto etc...:heyhey:
I reckon that it's probably down to lack of space that there isn't a condom machine in disabled toilets... often they double up as baby changing rooms so on the wall you'll have your rails, toilet roll holder, sink, baby changing table, etc... and as the cubicles don't have the largest amount of room in them it's fair to say that condom machines probably play second fiddle to the more important things a disbaled person may need.
Back to my point though if there is room for tampax machines why not condom machines or just one machine that supplies all!
you don't seem to get condoms in a lot of toilets nowardays. mints and vibrators seem more popular
well if there's limited space on the wall what would you prefer as a woman at her time of the month??? a machine vending sanitary equipment or condoms???
it would be good having a multi-functional machine and indeed there are some about now (in mens toilets anyway) that sell razors, toothbrushes, condoms and in some places sex toys! but the vending machines are normally supplied by an external company not the establishment in which they are found... so it's down to them if they see the market for multi-vend machines!!
where i work we see thousands of customers every night and i could count on one hand the number of times the disabled loos are used over the entire night... and how many of those people would be wanting to buy condoms?? probably the same proportion of fully-abled people maybe??? it makes more sense for the disabled person to go into the main toilet and use that one?
They could put condom machines , tampax machines and "morning after " pill machines on most of the corners on Sheffield City centre streets. This would save people the bother of planning ahead , cater for those unexpected encounters and make the Council a bit of extra money ! An ideal solution !

But we know different, don't we...? :heyhey:
Have you noticed you rarely find condom machines in hotel toilets are well and you'd think they'd be a captive market there wouldnt you.

miniminch 25-06-2005, 20:09 more negative stirrings from the disabled camp! God, moan, moan, moan..... the reason the there are no condom machines in disabled toilets I would have thought is pretty obvious.
There are less disabled people in society, so as a humane society, we want you guys to breed more than the rest of us; to make up the numbers. By denying you contraception there is more chance you will get pregnant.
Thats why the advice to people who go to 'kingdom' is to wear three condoms and a bee keepers outfit in the hope that none of those morons have kids!!
I would have thought that this was obvious;)

And how exactly are they supposed to reach to get the money in the slot? :suspect:
Perhaps you could suggest to the management that they provide a ramp? :D

Actually, it's probably the design of the machines themselves that are at fault. They are usually about 3ft long with the money slot at the top, and the vending slot at the bottom, so the ergonomics leave something to be desired
See? (http://gallery.hd.org/_exhibits/toilets/urinals-and-condom-vending-machine-1-DHD.jpg) If the money slot was low enough, you'd fall out of your chair trying to get your purchase out of the bottom slot
I don't see any conspiracy against the disabled. It's a couple of plain and simple things.
Firstly - Demand. Disabled WC's don't get the same number of people going through them, and are unlikely to make money.
Secondly, it would make it far too tempting for the disabled WC to become a cosy, lockable, bunking up facility.

The sink at the bar I work in, at home have had the sink replaced 4 times this year in the disabled toilet because it's apparently "just the right height" it's currently falling off the wall again. We don't want to encourage the little buggers now do we?
The disabled toilet in my work has a vending machine, selling condoms, mints, tights, pain killers etc etc.
The 'normal' (for want of a better expression) toilets have nothing! Also the last pub I had lunch in had a condom + mini tooth brush dispenser in the disabled loo. (the gents was broken) but that was down south.
So, in answer to the original question - They do, but obviously not very often.

Maybe it is just a Teesside thing then Hook???
Sounds like a missed opportunity. Talk about target marketing potential! They could dispense items that wheelchair bound individuals could really use and include advertising on the walls.
Plain Talker 27-06-2005, 16:49 wheelchair bound?
I assume you mean "wheelchair users?"
I USE a wheelchair, i am not wheelchair bound, (except maybe if i'm feeling particularly kinky! lol)
wheelchair bound is a non-empowering term. "Wheelchair user sounds much better! lol
ty. we now return you to your regularly sheduled viewing.... lol

As a disabled lady, in the event of a lack of space and having one or the other, I would see tampax machines as more of a necessity than condom machines!
