GHS1961 24-06-2005, 21:58 Think you would be best to avoid all of them - particularly the Big Tree which is a chav infested hole. beanpod 24-06-2005, 22:50 Head on down the road to New India Garden on Chesterfield Road - I can highly recommend that. In fact just been there - Yum! rothschild 25-06-2005, 00:58 My Ma in law lives on woodseats........and I feel sorry for her! The smell from all the take-aways on there turns my stomach over! I hate garlic and the air is often heavy with the stench from this offending bulb! Her little back yard garden which was once an oasis of greenery is now a "no go" area because of the stink! She has to keep her windows closed because of the smell, and her street is allways full of parked cars belonging to shoppers. When we visit we often have to park a couple of streets away because we can't get near! As for the take-away-litter........well it is beyond a joke! As for the late night revellers.......we have had to put a gate on the passageway between the houses in order to stop folk walking in and p****ng in the passageway! Horses for courses I suppose........the area is well loved by the younger generation because of the pubs and the very wide variety of foods for sale. Ma in Law has lived there for most of her life and has seen very many changes.........not all for the good. She would now like to move away to a more peaceful place but finances etc prevent this so she has to "put up with it". Woodseats does seem to have become a place for people to come into for a short while and have a good time while they are there........but many people do move on quite quickly. It is a shame really because these same people forget that there are residents still alive in the area that remember when it wasn't such an "up and coming" place to be! I suppose the "buy to rent" trend has had a lot to do with the alterations of what was once an area of hard working/working class peeps. Ah well.......that is progress.......or so we are told! lol. rothschild 25-06-2005, 01:11 Sorry.......I deviated and got carried away but I think that GHS summed it up. If the smell is anything to go by then I would avoid the lot as well! BUT........welcome to the area and I hope that you are happy there.......and I am not being sarcastic, I really do mean it. There is also a posative side to it. There are many great shops on the precinct and it is obvious that the night life is quite lively as well. There are many wonderful old houses around the woodseats area....and you will be very near to Graves park.......fantastic place to walk around on a Sunday morning. I believe that the bus services are very well served as well. Anyhow......welcome to Woodseats ls. Claret 25-06-2005, 09:54 Hi We've lived in woodseats for almost two years now and we've found that it is really convenient for everything. I feel pretty safe here, especially as we've got really good neighbours. The take aways do smell, but they're great!! Phoenix fish and chip shop is good and the Woodseats Tandoori do fantastic curries - but beware as the meat is halal. The rest of the pizza places are pretty standard though we prefer Danums on Abbeydale Road. The Chinese - I think it's Mandarin House - serve food of a slightly higher standard than the crap you usually get from Chinese Take-aways. As for restaurants Dil Shad is a standard Bangladeshi curry house - no complaints - and Kito's is an Italian that gets loads of good reviews, but I personally would not chose to eat there again. There are a few pubs though we only ever go to the Weatherspoons. The Chantry and the Woodseats Hotel seem a bit too local. The Abbey is a bit too local and the Big Tree is a big no no. There's a lot of fights that go off in there. One night we heard a hellicopter flying around above woodseats and the next morning we noticed that all the windows in the Big Tree had been boarded up due to a BIG fight!!!! Also when the world cup was on there was a CCTV van parked outside it - suggesting that there's going to be trouble there. The weatherspoons is standard - cheap drinks and grub. Variety of people of all ages and backgrounds and we feel comfortable there. As for the rest in Woodseats there's a good butchers and a good fishmongers and loads of hairdressers and beauty salons to chose from. There's also a blockbusters, Tesco, Netto, Iceland and you're not far away from the Morrisons at Meadowhead. Like I said - it is convenient but the chavs do get annoying after a while. We've just exchanged contracts on a property in a different area and although I have enjoyed living here, I don't think I'm going to miss it too much!! As long as you don't go to the Big Tree, I'm sure you'll be fine and enjoy it like we have!!! WallBuilder 25-06-2005, 13:48 I've lived at Woodseats for more years than I care to remember and have seen a few changes. The Big Tree is the pub to avoid but then it's been like that for twenty years or more and can look rather alarming as in nice weather a lot of customers sit outside at the front. The other four pubs are personal preference and I'd say my favorite would be the Chantry but then I am getting rather old and set in my ways. Shops galore selling all the basics and a few more specialists for example a very good computer shop near the Scarsdale road traffic lights and a good household appliance shop 'Apollo's. There are several take-aways as already mentioned and i agree the Phoenix is good and if I can afford it Domino's the pizza place. Rubbish and litter in the area has got worse since the council removed Tony our friendly street cleaner, he used to walk round with his broom and bins and do a really good job. Nowadays it looks like we have one of those little motorised vehicles that isn't as efficient and isn't there every day. Woodseats has a huge age range of people living in the area and some of the older one's have lived here all their lives and so I find it a friendly place with lots of familiar faces. I'm also becoming aware that there are quite a few forum members living locally I'm not sure whether you'd consider this a good point or not!! Was an organised fight between the numpties that follow both our local football teams. Thankfully those that took part are now serving custodial sentences, community service or ASBO's of some sort. bigflesh 26-06-2005, 21:46 Woodseats is really very nice, although it can be a bu$gger getting parked up. I guess because its so up and coming (in my humble opinion). Voise 27-06-2005, 08:45 The only place I wouldn't go in Woodseats is the Big Tree 'cus I am getting a bit old for it, but I know plenty of regulars there who never get into any trouble! My personal preferences are Phoenix for fish & chips, Dilshad for Indian, Chatanoogas for Kebabs and Blue room for poshish restaurant. My partner recommends the Woodseats Palace as best pub. benclements2 27-06-2005, 12:23 Originally posted by GHS1961 Think you would be best to avoid all of them - particularly the Big Tree which is a chav infested hole.
