I'm meeting my friend in the city centre later this morning later for a gossip.
We want to go somewhere where we can get a nice hot drink and some lovely home made cakes. Any suggestions please?

Costa Coffee Peace Gardens is great surroundings - sit in innner ground floor area - avoid Starbucks - the other good one is Gusto on Church St near Catherdral - italian run great friendly service and laid back ... if you want more bohemian and interesting art on the walls, Blue Moon cafe a few doors down is good also ... there is also the Site Gallery cafe in cultural quarter - if its open and if its attended - and there is a new cafe in this area also opposite SIAN very chi chi ...
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I shall definitely give one a try today, and put the rest on my "to go" list

Cafe 22a just opposite the Catholic cathedral, close to the Lyceum and the Crucible. Absolutely gorgeous cakes and hot chocolates...try the one with an Aero melted into a cup of hot milk mmmm........
The best coffee and cakes by far is Gusto Italiano, the best cafe PERIOD in the city centre infact. Pizza, panninis, salads, coffee, great service, friendly, however it is PACKED out at lunch times and on Saturdays..so get there early

Ok, stop it now! Yez are all making me hungry and resentful of the fact I'm stuck at my computer "working"... I have however made a list of cafes to be visited in the near future, so I suppose that's no bad thing.
Now, if only my tummy would stop growling at the thought of cakes... :P
just been into caffetteria at the top of church st today, they have a gr8 range of cakes and pastries as well as excellent coffee
