randydave 01-03-2009, 17:39 Bound to be a great event. Pea Royd Lane is certainly a tough climb, I'll be there to watch the riders putting themselves through pure pain.
green_god 01-03-2009, 17:49 This is an excellent opportunity to promote Cycling as a means of transport.
Can I ask, will all the competititors be arriving to the event on their bikes ? :)

I think many of the local riders and spectators will attend the event by bike, however with it being a National Championship the riders will travel from all over the country, bringing a lot of people into the community of Stocksbridge, some staying for the weekend. For the annual event that i have promoted for the past 5 years, riders have come from Liverpool, London, Newcastle and Hull. I attended this years National in Matlock which attracted riders from even further, even Edinburgh and Guernsey!!!

Glad to hear it randydave. The National is on an extended version of the hill that i promote our annual event on, adding an extra 400 yards, starting from the very bottom of the hill, in the valley and steelworks. The event headquarters are at The Venue in Stocksbridge where all the results and the presentation will be held. Food and drink will also be on sale.

I'd be really interested to know what people make of some distinctive bikes at: bladecustomcycles.com
They're not the traditional types, but give them a look and post your thoguhts here, please - keep an open mind!

the national hill climb champs are coming together nicely for what should be a cracking event. check out www.freewebs.com/thethurcroftcc for further details and news of the support received so far in promoting a natioanl event on our door steps!!

fostermartin 25-08-2009, 21:35 Your support is needed please help us to keep part of our heritage for a better future by supporting our cause to keep one of our ancient public rights of way as part of the planned redevelopment of Stocksbridge. Help us to change the Developers plans and keep Ford Lane opposite your hill climb site as part of our planned multi user route through the bottom of our Valley - our Steel Valley Way - suitable for elderly, disabled, families with prams - and a safe route for all riders.
